You're underestimating Collins. He still has a great arm and can make big time throws. He's got some weapons around him that will make plays. And our players will be playing with a chip on their shoulder, since everybody and their mother have already written them off without Manning. They'll be out to prove something and shock the world. I wouldn't be surprised if they do.
People seem to forget, Houston has a whole new defensive scheme. You don't undergo that kind of change without some errors and mistakes the first few weeks, at least. There will be some confusion on their end, which means they won't be playing fast. They'll be thinking instead of reacting. I have serious doubt about Houston having a good defense at any point during this season.
Dude, you'd doubt Houston no matter what. I don't expect Houston's defense to be world beaters this year, but I do expect them to be better than last year. If they're average, Houston is a contender. I expect them to be at least average.
As for Collins: I'm not underestimating him. I've watched that guy play my team twice a year for a long time. He's a decent QB, but he isn't Manning, and frankly, I think Houston is better than Indy even with Manning. They split last year. they'd probably split this year with Peyton. The difference is, Houston is getting better, and Indy is getting worse.
Crazy Levi wrote:Well, like I said, it will at least be entertaining after years of watching guys like Brunell, Campbell, and McNabb thow 4 yard check down passes on 3rd and 11.
A mixture of 40 yard bombs, 30 yard INTs, and Pick-6's will certainly be entertaining.
My cousin and aunt are/were big Skins' fans going back to the 60's so I've been following that team forever through proxy. They live in MD and came up here to watch a Pats vs Skins back in 1990 (25-10 Wash) because the Patriots sucked and it was easier and cheaper for them to see the game here. That was the last time I saw my aunt because she passed away suddenly 6 months later. My cousin and I still talk football all the time and when I posted "Rex Grossman is your starting QB" on her Facebook page she answered "I know. CRAP!!"
Look, I understand that Sexy Rexy is considered something of a joke in Chicago and beyond...but the fact is he has really NOT been bad for the Skins. He played some decent football last year, outplaying McNabb, and he's looked good this preseason.
He was the qb of the last Bears super bowl team. McMahon is a Chicago legend and technically speaking he wasn't as skilled as Grossman. Like I said, he's going to make some throws that will take your breath away. He's going to make some decisions that will make you tear your hair out. It won't be boring.

He may come out of this thing looking like a genius , but it sure looks like Del Rio has lost his mind.
It was a front office cash dump to the tune of 9 million. I don't think Del Rio would let him go when it's playoffs or out for him.

He said it wasn't a money thing, (I can't imagine they'd tell the truth if it was), but it's a pretty strange move in a year that the division is up for grabs. They're either starting a rookie or a guy that has only thrown 23 passes in the NFL. I think I'm a little pissed off if I'm a Jags fan.

It was a dick move. Apparently they didn't tell him until after the luncheon where they introduce the players to the fans.
They did the same thing to Leftwich on Labor Day Weekend in 07.
Jacksonville is one of the teams with financial issues. The area doesn't support the team and they have been talking about moving the Jags forever. They probably viewed a chance to dump a $9M player who isn't a game changer as a significant savings. Even with revenue sharing that team can't survive there.
Garrard will hook up with another team. He's better than a half dozen QBs starting for other teams right now. He's just not a $9M guy. I'm sure Miami, Seattle, and Minnesota would love to have him.

Jax - Starting QB would be 3rd string on most teams
If Houston doesn't go at least 5-1 in the division and 6-4 in their other games(Car, Cin, & Mia = cream puffs) to take the division then heads should roll after the season.

Washington and San Fran too.
If that were true these teams would have snapped him up by now. I don't think Washington has any interest in Gerard.

He's got to be a lock to go to Seattle and bail those clowns out.

Yep. Barring major injury, there should be no excuses. This is Kubiak's last chance. He's got the most talented team in the division, and one of the more talented in the conference. If he can't win this year, he never will.

Whoever picks up Gerrard will wait until after week 1 so they don't have to guarantee his contract. It's only a 5 day wait and gives a team an out if he doesn't work out. I say Miami most likely, then Seattle.
Garrard over Tavaris Jackson has to be a no-brainer. Miami spent most of the off season trying to pry Orton from Denver. I can't see him going to Washington because they are rebuilding. But Miami or Seattle could certainly use him.

They may not have interest, but he is better than Grossman. I don't know about Beck.
The Colts' Road to the Super Bowl begins in 12 months.
I wonder if they are gonna bring in Garrard. THey simply can't be serious with Kerry Collins.
I don't think Garrard can run that offense. He's not a precision passer and is more suited to an offense with a power running game. Indy would have to completely change their scheme. Collins is probably a better option.

You're a piece of scum human being to be pleased about an injury of this nature.
And those are erroneous reports by rumor mongers. Peyton will play this season. Hard to guess when, but it's likely be 4-8 weeks. Collins is a capable QB who can hold the fort until then. If we can go .500 until Peyton returns, we will be in OK shape.
Collins is a much better option than Garrard.

I would love nothing more than to see Indy go 4-12, but not because of an injury, especially one to Manning. I think the league is better when stars play and it's more fun to beat a team at full strength. And I love watching Manning get knocked out of the playoffs and getting to see "Peyton Manning Face". There is no pleasure in this for me.
Manning is going to be out 5 weeks according to all credible sources. He came off the PUP and started practicing and immediately had issues, so he is about a training camp's worth of time from being right if it's just a matter of working through it and he doesn't need an additional procedure. Don't forget he had no access to Indy's training staff after the surgery and had to do the rehab on his own.
If he is out 5 weeks and then shaky for 2-3 until he gets his timing right it will be all over for Indy this year. If they are going to be that far back by that point it's probably better that they put him on IR and get him healthy for next year rather than risk him. It's a neck injury, it involves nerves, and he's had multiple surgeries in the same area. No reason to chance a permanent injury.

I never root for injury to any player. Even when Brady went down, I wasn't celebrating that. The Colts-Pats game that year just wasn't the same. Like you said, the league is at its best when it's top stars are playing. Peyton being out is a huge loss for the league as a whole.
I do believe the Colts can stay above water with Collins at the helm. In a very weak division, if Peyton can come back by week 7 or 8, I still like our chances of making the playoffs and beyond. Don't forget Collins once took the Giants to the Super Bowl and also lead the Titans to 13 wins just 3 years ago. He still has the arm and he has plenty of talent around him. This is still the Colts, we have a culture of winning, and that doesn't stop just because 18 is out. We've dominated the NFL for the past decade, and yes Peyton was a huge part of that, but there were other players on the field as well.

I agree. Collins is no Manning, but nobody is. He's still probably the best fit they're going to find at this point for what they do. I'm curious to see if he'll make it deep enough in the season though. He's not exactly young, he's about the only guy I can think of who's even less mobile than Manning, the left side if that line is untested and they've got some monster defenses on their schedule. With their lack of a real running game, he better figure out how to get the ball off quick like Peyton does or he's liable to be seeing stars and we're liable to be watching Painter.

It's also a fact that nobody knows when, or even if Manning will be back. That "other procedure" hasn't been ruled out. They're "reviewing options". It doesnt sound real promising. As a football fan, I hope he's back. He's pissed me off a dozen or so times, but he's a straight up bad ass.

Unless you win the division you aren't making the playoffs. It will be NE, NYJ, Bal, PITT and then the 2 other division winners. Most likely Houston and San Diego. No way are you going 7-8 weeks without Peyton and winning the division. Just stop.

I think it's hilarious. I haven't taken this much sick enjoyment of someone else's misfortune since Bret got hit by that Broadway scenery.
And "you" won't be ok. There's no way in hell "you" go .500 with Collins.
