New set of Ping sealed tuners for the Predator...they work very well. Was going to drop $60 more for a set of chrome locking Schallers, but thought "Why?". The Pings don't slip....period. 2-3 good stretches on the new strings, hasn't gone out of tune. Will get Grovers for the LP when the time comes, though.

New set of #7 Groove Tube 6L6-R's in the Classic...likes these much better than the Sovtek 5881's or the old RCA 6L6GC's. Gonna have to back the bias down a bit from where I raised it with the Sovteks(Hartley biased these thigs SUPER COLD)....bastards put out some HEAT!(yes, I have a fan on gale-force behind it when it's on). Still contemplating an EL-34 mod later on.

Finally visited the Sam Ash here in town....great customer service and selection of instruments and accessories. Reinforces my disdain for GC...

New FSR Rootbeer Flake Strat today!

Looking at a set of pickups - two singles and a 'bucker in the bridge. Suggestions? I try to stay on the vintage side of things.

Got a set of RCA grey plate 6v6's put in my Tweaker combo, sounds pretty good. A little richer sounding overall especially on the AC settings.

Was it stock? I haven't seen any like that but I know they recently introduced Floyded versions of the Jackson JS Series. I recall when the Blacktops first came out thinking if only they came with Floyds... the daphne blue maple board 2-hum with a Floyd would be sweet!

I have an Epiphone Wilshire coming. I'm going to modify it as such:
P-rails p/u in lead
Lipstick or Tele in rhythm
pearloid pickguard
1 meg pot in lead (remove tone)
standard rhythm kobs
input jack recessed on back..
here's the mock up that still has a lead tone knob

Picked up a used Squier VM Tele SH yesterday, I don't know what it is but the Made in India Squiers I've played sound great. This one has a few bucks in upgrades in it already and since I bought it to do a few mods it's part way there.
Came with an SD Jazz neck and an Am Std Bridge pup and an upgraded Fender vintage Tele bridge setup. Swapping out the neck for a real nice old rosewood board Tele neck I have kicking around then dropping in a chrome covered '59n and a QPb and it should be all kinds of smoking. Popped on some white speed knobs instead of the mini witch hats too, really like the way it looks.

Anybody ever play one of these (ESP Phoenix II)? I played one at a shop today and fell in love with it. Only $350. Really tempting.

Haven't played one of those, but ESP makes great stuff. Is that set-neck or bolt-on?

It's amazing that they can make a guitar of that quality and sell it for $350. Probably made in Indonesia or China, maybe even Korea, but those countries are all capable of making quality guitars nowadays. That's basically a Firebird for about 1/5 the cost, probably plays better with an Indonesian setup than a Gibson from Memphis would. The Gibson might have better woods and electronics, but 5x greater?

Sweet guitar, I say grab it!! Here is your mantra for the wife : "Just one more, honey!" Let her go buy some shoes and you're both stoked!

It's ridiculous how good cheap guitars are nowadays. I've never owned a Firebird, but I might be willing to spring for that. Think I'll be stopping in Guitar Center tomorrow.
