I'm in a dilemma.

As a Yankee fan, do I want a "red hot" rays team to make the post-season or do I prefer to have the sux limp into the post-season?
Tough choice.
Sux are a bitter rival and facing them in the ALCS won't be easy.
Will it be any easier to face the rangers/tigers/rays/angels in the ALCS?
Unsure about that as well.

Part of me wants the sux to make the post-season because they are dangerous enough to win the ALDS and then be very exhausted and perhaps a good match-up vs the Yankees in the ALCS
The MFY have Sabbathia........

There is no way in hell they make it past Verlander, Porcello, Fister.

I think Detroit will win the AL.
Why don't you go back to sending more texts
to Lackey
Yankees are 7-3 vs rangers this season &
only 3-4 vs tigers this season

Based on numbers alone, I guess the Yankees prefer to face the rangers
in round 1.

Let me tell you something, if the sox/rays face the tigers in round 1, I would not be surprised to see the tigers lose.

Detroit's pitching is pretty awesome.

I didn't text Lackey. If I did I would've sent him this:

I love Guillen he cracks me the fuck up.

I completely disagree with his offensive approach though. He personally hates plate patience ( don't ask me why ). He has a go up their swinging approach he instills in his players.

Case in point Nick Swisher ( one of Beane's Money Ball guys ) who has a plate patience mentality ( fuck you Epstein for not picking him up ). Did not work out under Guillen, the MFY are loving his approach though.

I'm curious how he'll work in Florida with the youngsters. He was the 3rd base coach there in '03. They're saying now he's going to be traded to the Marlins to make the deal legit.

Seriously, I have been following the Sox since the late 60's and I can't remember a player that signed who I wanted less than Lackey. The guy always pitched like shit in Fenway, and he was vocal about how much he hated pitching here. He also had a bunch of big game melt-downs. This signing alone is enough to take away the keys from Theo.

Speaking of Theo - he's great when he's running moneyball, but terrible when bringing in free agents. He was good at building a team through the draft, picking up mid-season players, and then letting them go for draft picks and building from A-ball up. And I'm not sure how much of that was due to people in the organization who have since left. Lucchino was responsible for Schilling and Beckett, two acquisitions that worked. I'll give Theo credit for shipping Nomar out, and for picking up Adrian Gonzalez. But he is also responsible for Lackey, Lugo, Rent-a-wreck, Scutaro over Alex Gonzalez, the Dice-K mess, Crawfraud, Gagne, and the current lack of depth in the organization.

Francona is too much of a player's coach and his shelf life is up. He sent a clear message to his team by the way he handled Wakefield getting #200 as they lost a bunch of winnable games in the process. As much as there are injury issues, there is no excuse for going 5-17 with this roster. Francona set the tone by trying to sit on a 9 game lead on September 1st, his players shut it down, and couldn't get it going again.

Curt Young sucks. I thought he was a problem back in April when they started out 2-10, and then watching the pitchers struggle at times while always having nagging injuries seems to confirm that he can't handle a pitching staff.

Dave Magadan hasn't been anything special either. For a lineup this strong they go through too many stretches of next to no offense.

It's time for a housecleaning.

I don't think Ozzie is that bad of a manager, I think Kenny Williams is more of the problem. Case in point, acquiring Alex Rios.

But I'm a Cubs fan, so I've got bigger problems...

Welcome to Miami, Ozzie. 8)

Fucking Javy Vazquez was EPIC tonight, again! (pleasedontretirepleasedontretirepleasedontretire...yeah, I take back every shitty thing I said about him, he's a God.) He was ready to go out in the 10th inning, if necessary! (no SP has ever done that.) Thank you, Bryan Petersen for the walkoff homer to get Javy the win! :D

Going to the SunLife finale tomorrow. Thank God it's the last game ever there! There's gonna be a lot of former players there, and all kinds of shit going on. I'll probably get all emotional and shit. Last game ever as the Florida Marlins. Bittersweet.
Fuck sigs.

Bunch of fucking choke artists. Can't score a run on 1st & 3rd with nobody out in the top of the 9th and then can't hold a lead with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th.

And Tampa comes back from a 7 run deficit to win the WC.

They ought to replay that game on the Sox flight back from Baltimore and force those overpaid stiffs to watch it so they can see how a team with heart plays baseball.

Since the stiffs have guaranteed contracts most of them aren't going anywhere. it wouldn't be a bad thing if Lackey and Crawford fell out of the plane on the way back from MD.

Theo - Stays although a stat driven GM approach especially with the success of the Money Ball movie, wouldn't be that hard to replace. You were wrong about Beckett earlier. Theo pulled the trigger on that one, not Lucchino. In the GM meetings they were saying Theo was on speakerphone and made the calls.

Francona - Is the best manager they've ever had. I'm not sure what he could've done. Today's players wouldn't respond well to a Dick Williams style. He can only do with what he was given. Which leads me to the next two.

Young - The injuries ( while I don't think could've been prevented by him ) were noticed by the fucking catcher before he did. That's the job of the pitching coach. He had a great success with the Big 3 in Oakland......and that's about it.

Magadan - I'm not well adversed enough to confidently comment on hitting performance coaching. Papa Jack he ain't, but then again he doesn't have a Manny in the lineup. Let's see if he ( or someone ) else can teach Crawford how to take a BB, and quit swinging at pitches out of the zone.

I'm going to add Alan Baird - The scouting has sucked since he's came on. That's who I think needs to go. Him and the fucking Medical Staff.

The team's psyche was destroyed when the injuries hit. A lot like 2006 when Varitek went down for the season. The FO needs to make a statement.

These past couple of nights have been the most insane, best baseball I have ever seen. Unbelievable. Congrats to the Cards and Rays. Wow. The fucking RAYS!

LOLBraves pulled a LOLMets! :D

The Marlins lost today, but they had a terrific sendoff. Lots of old faces from previous Marlins teams. Jeff Conine took down the Marlins championship flags, flew them via helicopter to the new pond, and raised the flags there. Pretty cool. We said goodbye to Trader Jack, and HELLOOO to Ozzie! I love him already.

Insane week of baseball. I surely had Atlanta picking up the WC over St. Louis. Their pitching pulled a Boston.

I'm really curious to see how Ozzie handles the kids at the new pond. One thing you can be sure of, he's got a fucking comment for everything. I think he's funny as hell.

Went to bed with the Yanks leading 7-0 and Red Sox leading 3-2. Got up this morning with my wife all happy (Yankees fan) saying the REd Sox lost and Rays won. I wasn't surprised the Red Sox lost coz that was close, but the Yankees capitulated against the Rays. Then I saw the highlights on channel 3 news. You'd think the Orioles had won the World Series the way they celebrated at the end there. Very small time of them considering the season they've had. Not that I'm unhappy that the Red Sox lost. Since the Fenway Group bought LFC I'm quite happy that they lose. Hopefully Henry will take money away from Liverpool to rebuild the Red Sox.

It's one thing to not make the post season. It's another thing to have a 9 game lead and choke it away in less than a month. While watching a bunch of players act like they don't give a shit.

Theo may have made the initial calls but he was gone when the Beckett deal was done. There was a debate over Beckett's medical file. Lucchino is the one who ultimately pulled the trigger. Regardless, he has made bonehead move after bonehead move since then. 2004 was Douquette's doing. Theo gets credit for 2007, but how much of that was Lucchino still calling the shots and how much of their success was guys like Hoyer?

The guy couldn't find a decent shortstop on a tour of Cooperstown. Rent-a-wreck and Lugo fall squarely on Theo. JD Drew too. He let the best defensive shortstop this town has seen since Rooster walk away twice. He gave huge contracts to Lackey and Crawford, guys who were said not to have the makeup to play in this market. C'mon, everyone except Theo knew Lackey was going to be a bust. That move alone is enough to put most GMs on the hot seat. He needs to be held accountable, as is any senior manager in any company when their hires don't get the job done.

Francona is too much of a player's manager to keep going forward. He lost his locker room. He's also not a very good tactical manager. Why was a rookie catcher behind the plate in the bottom of the 9th of the last game of the year with the season on the line with Varitek on the bench? Tek didn't need to hit, run, or do anything other than call about 12 pitches. Did you see the location on the pitches to Hudson and Reimold? They were all in one big cluster. Who was calling those pitches? Young? The rookie? Was Papelbon just throwing what he felt like? There have been too many times where questionable moves were made this year, and a lot of them appeared to put individual players over the team. Managers have a shelf like, and Tito's is up. They need to bring in someone who can be a hard-ass from time to time. What I wouldn't give to see a guy like Billy Martin walk over and pop Lackey in the head.

Young has to go. It was apparent that he was a problem back in April. That pitching staff was not ready for opening day. He didn't improve a single pitcher, and most of them regressed. If he isn't gone then something is wrong.

Magadan wasn't able to keep the hitters disciplined. They got away from working the count and when they did work it they took a lot of called 3rd strikes. I wouldn't necessarily say he deserves to go soley on performance but I think he needs to go as part of the housecleaning.

I do think that the season started coming apart after Youkilis went down. It's not like they lost Ted Williams' bat and Brooks Robinson's glove, but they did loose their fire. Say what you want about the guy but at least he cares and isn't afraid to show it. They went flat afterwards, something that points back to a laid back manager.

I fucking HATE baseball and even I was transfixed last night. So cool having all those games go down to the wire.

Fuck the Red Sox. Loved seeing the Os win and celebrate like they were going to the playoffs, while all those Boston douchebags who took over Camden Yards looked like they just got hit with a brick. Long drive back to beantown.

Sox have plenty of money with or without the liverpool money. They're a close 3rd on payroll behind the Phillies and Yankees. Fact is, aside from Pedroia and Ellsbury, they're all overpaid and most of 'em aren't acting like dirt dogs anymore. Lackey signed on just in time to turn into a joke, and Epstein got duped into thinking Crawford was more special than he really was by Cashman bidding him up. I understand that they have to have a payroll that somewhat resembles the Yankees to compete with them every year, but the Rays just proved AGAIN that you can put together a smart hungry competitive team for relatively next to nothing.
