A-Rod strikes out to end the game and the series. Perfect! Once a choker, always a choker.

Nothing screams, stay away from Comiskey the next 3 years like that hire.killeverything wrote:Robin Ventura is the new Chicago White Sox manager.
Ventura's resume
2010-2011 - Volunteer high school hitting coach.
August 1993 - Became Nolan Ryan's bitch.
Actually he's probably the best 3B on the White Sox roster right now.
He's like the Liberace of bass & pot.

Yankees had so many opportunities to win the game last night.
I certainly thought Jeter's fly ball to right field was going to be a HR.
Oh well.

He struck out in a clutch situation. As he has done his entire career. He may be a stat machine when it doesn't matter, but when it counts he just doesn't get it done.Machado wrote:Another expert heard fromSkyDog112046 wrote:A-Rod strikes out to end the game and the series. I guess the WS ring in 2009 was a dream? I don't think so.
Call ARod un-clutch all you want pre '2009, but not anymore.
So he struck out to end the game. Someone has to make the last out.
There are other's on the team that failed as well. But for some reason, the media and Yankee haters get a hard on about ARod.

He definitely got it done in in a big way in 2009. But I was listening to WFAN today, and they were going over his playoff numbers, excluding 2009 and adding in 2010 and 2011. And they were pretty terrible.Machado wrote:Call ARod un-clutch all you want pre '2009, but not anymore.
Unfortunately, it's like the Atlanta Braves with ARod. Nobody ever talks about the World Series they won, just all the times they came up short.

Nah. They should have beaten the fucking Cardinals. Sorry, Carpenter's performance tonight notwithstanding, they aren't all that. Another epic Philly choke to add to the list that's taking years off my life.Tenacious_Dio wrote:Oh, and maybe the Phillies should've laid down against the Braves.
On a side note, anybody catch the two F Bombs that Nyjer Morgan dropped during the post game? Got a chuckle out of that.
EDIT: Ryan Howard probably ruputured his achilles tendon on that last AB and may miss all next year.

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
meh, reminds md of the 07' season. Cards were hot as fuck, and the Phils offense once again just didn't show up during another great Performence by Doc. I fucking hated last years loss worse because the giants were so unlikable. I like this cards team, fucking scrappy and they wanted it more. hopefully next season the Phils can bring in a better 3B, Ibanez will be gone, and hate to say it but another manager. I'm tired of watching Manuel refuse to do what great managers do, bunt guys into scoring position, have vic steal when the 3b was way out of position etc. All fucking year He flat out refused shit like this.
Gibson did the same in the Dbacks game, tie game in the bottom of the 9th, men on 1st and 2nd, no outs and Hill's not bunting them over? Fucking stupid.

If true about Howard, that's a bummer. He somehow went to my high school. I'm not sure if he was bussed in or not.

Even though they won 3-2 the Cardinals statistically outplayed them. If they could have plated one of those 4 runners that made it to 3rd base in game 3 last night may not have been necessary.WhiteHouseSubsAC wrote:Nah. They should have beaten the fucking Cardinals. Yup. Tied game in the bottom of the 9th with a runner on second and no outs and the next guy bunts. Doesn't matter if it's Babe Ruth at the plate, he bunts.dtmfs wrote:Gibson did the same in the Dbacks game, tie game in the bottom of the 9th, men on 1st and 2nd, no outs and Hill's not bunting them over? Managers getting away from fundamentals is because of sabremetrics which say that an at-bat by the lead off hitter in the top of the first is the same as one in the bottom of the 9th. A team doesn't need to put up a crooked number in the bottom of the 9th, they only need 1 run so giving up the batter to move the runner to 3rd is a no-brainer. Casey Stengel is rolling over in his grave.

Agreed, I should be pissed right now but I'm not, outside of the first game the rest were all nail biters and great to watch, especially last night, major props to the cards. I'm kind of digging this offseason, and as much as I respect what the Cards did I'd like to root for them but I can't, they've got enough titles, I like seeing teams who've never won it finally give their city a title So i'm pulling for either the brewers or Rangers.johnk5150 wrote:Even though they won 3-2 the Cardinals statistically outplayed them. Aw, c'mon...we haven't had a title in a few years. I hate to think what kindof season we would have had. Wainwright was out the whole year...we led the league in double plays...Franklin, our stud closer the last few years, just lost it the first month...the bullpen by committee led the league in blown saves...we led the league in walkoff losses.dtmfs wrote:Agreed, I should be pissed right now but I'm not, outside of the first game the rest were all nail biters and great to watch, especially last night, major props to the cards. Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
That team is just gritty as fuck, as said before They remind me of the 07' rockies, got hot as hell and made ther WS, I usually hate the team that takes my team out, I think thats only natural, not in this case. It wouldn't bother me to see them win just because of the respect I now have for them, I admit after Howards 3 run bomb in game 1 I thought phils would take the series 3-1. What followed were 4 great games, a couple Heroic HR by unlikley heroes and a great pitching duel, Fuck it, I loved every minute and not the least bit ashamed to see my team get beaten by that bunch. Alot of phillie fans are whining, it was great baseball to watch and the phils offense was shaky all year long. More impressive for the cards is the lineup they beat had entered the post season 7-0. Good luck to your team the rest of the way.richrocks wrote:Aw, c'mon...we haven't had a title in a few years. I hate to think what kindof season we would have had. On a side note, scratch what I said earlier I don't want to see Nyjer Morgan win jack shit, I loved Pujols rushing over to his scrawny ass a few weeks ago after he disrespected Carpenter for no reason, I only wish Albert fucked him up.

I'm just wondering when the Tigers are gonna start hitting. 6 games into the postseason and we have yet to score more than 5 runs. Jackson, Avila and Martinez are combined 8 for 60! Another bases loaded and 1 out last night and Ordonez grounds into another double play.

The Ryan Howard injury is brutal to watch.
I know there are far more serious injuries and a lot more gruesome video footage of broken bones, but tearing an Achilles always appears to surprise the athlete, come out of nowhere and you see the person trying to take another step or two until the pain is too much.
To make matters worse, the Cards were celebrating on the field while
Howard was reaching for his Achilles halfway down 1st base line.

That made it doubly bad for Philly fans, but I can't blame the Cardinals players for celebrating. No one wants to see anyone hurt like that, but think of what a releif it was for St. Louis to actually win after needing all that help to even be in that position.Machado wrote:

I'll give the Cardinals props. They needed to win their last five against Houston AND have Philly stomp Atlanta to even have the opportunity.

Um, did the cards win or did the mighty/fighting Phillies lose?
Just goes to show how extremely difficult winning a WS is.
Yankees fans were the butt of a lot of jokes mid-week and now the Phillies are taking their licks.

Word is that Theo Epstein is going to become the Cubs GM with a 5 year deal worth approximately $15M. He will be given a title of Executive VP so it qualifies as a move up. The Red Sox will be getting compensation, most likely a AAA player or combination of lower level players.
Francona will not be going to Chicago with Theo. Word is that Epstein and Henry were sending Tito lineup cards and that they don't have a good relationship.
Ben Cherington will be the new GM of the Red Sox, with Lucchino taking a bigger day-to-day role. No news on a new manager.

Hopefully this will be the beginning of several years where the sox are a non-factor in the AL east.

No, that lineup is too good to not even be a factor. The problem is that the manager lost the club house and the team stopped trying down the stretch. They had some injuries but a lot of the issue was that players stopped taking it seriously and let themselves go and faded at the end. 4 months out of the season they were the best team in the AL. There may have been some holes, especially in the bullpen and pitching depth, but nothing that isn't easily corrected. They will bring in a manager who can be more of a hard-ass and Lucchino will ride them a little harder and they will bounce back.Machado wrote:Enjoying the turmoil up in chowder-town!SkyDog112046 wrote:Word is that Theo Epstein is going to become the Cubs GM with a 5 year deal worth approximately $15M.
