Re: Penn State Scandel
That's a very controversial stance, Nancy.
Still, what does it have to do with "spinning this story postively?"
Did you really think that this is something within the realm of possibility?
I also don't understand why you think letting the coach stay is a $$$ move.
Trust me, at this point, the money at Penn State just wants JoPa gone. There's little to be gained by having him hang around another couple months.

Re: Penn State Scandel
Jo Pa should have done more.
If the kid being molested was his child or related to his child, what would
Joe have done differently???
Jo Pa acted like a man that did not care about the victims and was more interested in protecting his precious University.
ASSHOLE!!

I think you guys are being hard on the old man.
We don't know all of the details yet and he hasn't had his say.

Re: Penn State Scandel
Penn St. head football coach Joe Paterno just announced that he will retire at the end of the current football season ... calling the child molestation scandal, "one of the great sorrows of my life" and saying, "I wish I had done more."Crazy Levi wrote:I think you guys are being hard on the old man.
We don't know all of the details yet and he hasn't had his say.
Paterno released a statement saying, "I am absolutely devastated by the developments in this case. I grieve for the children and their families, and I pray for their comfort and relief."
He added, "I have decided to announce my retirement effective at the end of this season. At this moment the Board of Trustees should not spend a single minute discussing my status. They have far more important matters to address. I want to make this as easy for them as I possibly can."
"This is a tragedy. It is one of the great sorrows of my life. With the benefit of hindsight, I wish I had done more."
"My goals now are to keep my commitments to my players and staff and finish the season with dignity and determination. And then I will spend the rest of my life doing everything I can to help this University."
Officials say Paterno had knowledge that former Penn State assistant coach Jerry Sandusky had allegedly sexually abused a pre-teen boy in the showers in the Penn State locker room back in 2002.
Paterno reported the incident to the athletic director at Penn State -- but failed to notify the police.
The police commissioner says Paterno has not been accused of legal wrongdoing, but claims Paterno did NOT fulfill his "moral responsibility."

We all make mistakes.
Joe is owning up to them and he's retiring.
I don't know what else you guys want. HE isn't the one who raped kids, and apparently he didn't break any laws. The guy allegedly did will get his day in court.

Jo Pa should not be allowed to continue coaching.
His ego is taking center stage. His ego needs to take a step back and do the right thing for the school, instead of the right thing for himself.
Fucking selfish asshole who thinks the state of Pennsylvania revolves
around him.

Why is John's idea so ridiculous?
This case is far worse then the incident 10 years ago at Baylor.
Remember that?
A Baylor basketball player was killed by his own teammate. The head coach(Dave Bliss) covered up the crime.

Re: Penn State Scandel
Agreed. Everyone with any firsthand knowledge of this or the ensuing cover up needs to be fired today. Two things that outrage me are that this monster was allowed to keep an office on campus and that Paterno is being allowed to finish the season, which just shows that PSU still doesn't freaking get it.johnk5150 wrote:If I'm Nebraska I don't even make the trip. Re: Penn State Scandel
You've got to be fucking kidding.
You are proposing a self-imposed death penealty for a football program that provides the school with millions of dollars, and employs hundreds of people.
For something that is absolutely NOT related to the football program.
I don't understand the rationale for this.
Seriously...state a case for it that goes beyond THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!111!!111 and I'l be glad to listen with an open mind.

So what?
People are calling for Penn State to shut it's fucking football program down. And they are serious!
I'd like to hear some rationale for this that makes sense.

There are been other programs shut down over a LOT less.

name ONE. As far as I know only ONE Division 1 football program has EVER been shut down.
And that football program actually did some things wrong. As far as I can tell Penn State's football program has a spotless record.
This is a joke. Seriously, there's absolutely zero credible rationale for imposing the death penalty - or in fact ANY sanctions - against the Penn State football program. This is a criminal matter involving individuals, and it has nothing to do with Penn State football.
There is absolutely no precedent - or anything CLOSE to a precedent - for this case to spill over into the football program.

#1-There is no excuse that Jo Pa can come up with for ignoring a child sex abuse incident. Jo Pa needs to resign because he failed his school, he failed the student body and he failed to report a major crime to the authorities.Crazy Levi wrote:

To date the bias that has been shown is just sad and pathetic.
Does Jo Pa and the school get a pass because of his age or because of the high rate of graduates the football program produces?

That proves my point Tommy.
This case has NOTHING in common with SMU.
Seriously. Nothing.
There is absolutely no precedent for what frink and others are proposing, and it makes no sense. Which you agree with I guess. Just pointing out that the SMU case is NOT a precedent for this.

OK whomever wants to believe this case is similar to SMU, that person really needs to call a timeout. The two cases are not even close to being the same.Crazy Levi wrote:That proves my point Tommy.

I don't know if the NCAA does get involved in stuff like this because it would be based on an individuals criminal misconduct...??? If they do however, "lack of institutional control" sounds like a starting place....doh!!
I don't want to see the Fball program dismantled, just fire everyone involved and let the criminal process take care of the ones who did something criminally wrong.
As for whomever mentioned just a little bit of evidence, go read the grand jury report, this isn't mere speculation. I'm not posting the link because if you can't find the report on your own using google you wouldn't understand any of it anyway.

Exactly.
Lack of morals (PSU) and what SMU did are very different.
I can't see any reason to justify shutting down PSU football, none.
If this were the case the SEC would be missing some programs.

Yeah. I think we all need to realize who the sanctioning body is here and then remember their track record.
Even if you think it should get shut down, it's not happening.
