Thanks.
I like all the home teams this week. BC, Toronto, Calgary, Montreal.
Fast Eddie, I don't think it will happen, but if the Riders get whipped REALLY bad, what happens? I'm guessing it's too early for Marshall to pay, but could Berry or Hall?

Wait, what? Wally blew the refs? You'd think more calls would have gone the Lions way in that case.Kid-Wicked wrote:unreal. at least wally didn't blow any calls just the refs.

wally didn't make any bad decisions. but the refs blew a few calls that could have made a difference in the game.

Week 5 pix:
Bombers over Lions. I was leaning towards the Lions in an upset, but the Bombers will be playing for their suddenly deceased defensive coach, plus Buck Pierce will be motivated to beat his old team. This will be close but the Bombers prevail.
Montreal over Hamilton. If Calvillo plays it's a lock. Even if he doesn't, you know Trestman will have them preped and ready to bouce back fom last weeks loss. For the last couple of years Hamilton have tended to implode just when you start thinking they might be pretty good. Here comes that implosion again.
Eskimos Over Argos. Dalton Bell on the road vs. Ricky Ray at home.
Stampeders over Roughriders. Full marks to the Riders for the win in Montreal last week, but I'm not convinced they've turned a corner yet. Calgary aren't what they used to be either. This should be close, but I'll go with the Vegas odds and say the Stamps win by a field goal.

Re: R U ready for some FOOTBALL?! CFL football that is...
back from my BC vacation, which included attending the Riders/Lions game last week. Nice stadium out there...a great gameday atmosphere and friendly, knowledgable fans all around. it's almost a shame that the Lions have to move back to BC place in a few weeks. Sorry the Riders O left a lingering stink that night though.
This week:
Edmonton and Montreal: The Bombers burst the 'Smos bubble last week methinks. Montreal wins at home.
Calgary at Saskatchewan: Can the Riders turn things around? We keep getting told that they have the talent but need to buy into the new systems. Maybe they'll get it together, but until I see improvement i can't pick them. Stamps win by 10.
Toronto at Hamilton: Is this a trap game for the Cats? Argos keep it close but Hamilton avoid choking in the end.
Winnipeg at BC: Despite the win last week, the Lions offence was far from impressive against the Riders D. Winnipeg are playing lights-out D right now and they should come away with the win if Buck Pierce stays on his feet. It's a minor miracle that the guy isn't in the shop again by week 7...maybe this is the week, against his old team, that he gets KTFO.

- Als, despite their D being banged up.
- Riders - I just got a feeling
- Hamilton - because the Argos suck and without their special teams they're nothing
- BC - because the Bombers spent too much time selling Swag t-shirts this week

I could have swore I saw Ricky Ray run by me, followed closely by the Als entire defence, as I walked back to my car.
Who knew defence could be so fun. That's about as good a time I've had at a game in ages. If the Als offence had been "on" it would have been a slaughter.

This week:
Toronto over Saskatchewan. Heads better fucking roll in Regina during the bye week before the Bombers come in here on Labour day.
BC over Edmonton. The Eskimos are scraping the bottom of the barrel for recievers. The Leos have a chance to put more distance between themselves and the Riders.

I would have picked the Riders over the Boatmen, but last I saw the Argos were skunking them 11-0. It's just not their year, but if they stay within striking distance, maybe guys getting cut from NFL camps can make the difference.Fast_Eddie_Schenker wrote:This week:

Greg Marshall and Doug Berry fired. Old Man Miller coming back to take the reins. Lets see if he can whip this bunch of bums into a team and get us to the playoffs. Go Edmonton. (tonight only though)
Marshall has 2 and a half years left on a garuanteed contract, so I'm not shedding a tear for him.

I guess you can't feel bad for Marshall on the financial side, but I feel bad for him on the football side. He had waited so long to get his shot, and then (in my opinion) Taman doesn't make the right moves to support him, guys defect to the NFL, injuries happen, and just like that he's out of a job.Fast_Eddie_Schenker wrote:Greg Marshall and Doug Berry fired. I wouldn't be shocked to see Miller get them into the playoffs, and I get the feeling the Als will finally be losing their O-coordinator, Scott Mialonovich, next year - UNLESS Trestman leaves and he takes over the Als.

Thank you Riders!
Now lets hope the Als can overcome massive injuries on defence to beat the Ticats. If not, the Als will be in 3rd place - that hasnt happened in AGES!

Re: R U ready for some FOOTBALL?! CFL football that is...
OK - Let's get this fucker fired up again.
My Alouettes are a complete and utter disaster. Chiu retired two years ago, Lambert and Cahoon last year, Cavillo is starting to look his age, and the team is decimated with injuries this year. 4/5 of the secondary is out, at least two of them (the two corners) for the year, not to mention the #2 and #3 receivers - SJ Green and Kerry Watkins. That makes life really tough on Richardson, as Winnipeg, for example, keyed on him like crazy last week. So, my Als don't look like a three-peat this year.
Gotta love that 6-7 teams have a legitimate shot at the cup this year, if they get healthy or hot at the right time. This week I favor a Winnipeg/Calgary cup final, but that can be completely different by the end of the weekend. The CFL is a roller coaster this year!
For this week:
Edmonton over Montreal - The Esks are healthy, the Als are not, the Esks want revenge for the 37-4 thumping the Als lay on them last month, and the Als are on 5 days rest and western travel. I look for Edmonton to score a lopsided victory tonight unfortunately.
Winnipeg over Toronto - I don't think Toronto could beat a peewee team right now, and the Winnipeg defence stifled Cavillo last week, so what will they do to Toronto's offence? Winnipeg wins and doesn't allow a TD by the Argo's offence.
BC over Saskatchewan - This could be the game of the week. Both teams are hot and getting their swagger back. Ken Miller has instilled confidence in Darian Durant, and Buono has the Lions playing like the contender people thought they would be at the beginning of the season. BC in a close one, as I hear Fantuz is out with an injury - his presence has been a sparkplug for them too.
Hamilton over Calgary - No home field advantage, as the game is being played in Moncton, but Hamilton had less travel and after dropping two in a row, this is a must win for them. Hamilton, also in a close one, IMO.

My god does CFL ref'ing suck. Als almost got robbed with that bogus pass interference call in the dying seconds of the game vs Winnipeg last night, and then Winnipeg got robbed, as there was surely 1 second left on the clock, for another play, when they got stuffed at the goal line by the Als D.

Sorry for my lack of activity here the past couple of months. I was disgusted with the riders, then they got hot and I was superstitious so I didn't post, but now the season is completely fucked.
Blow it up and start again, Riders.

Congrats to Anthony "AC" Cavillo for becoming pro football's all-time passing leader! You can debate who the greatest players of all-time are, but there's no debating what a class act AC is. He's a credit to the CFL and to the local community here in Montreal.

What does John Malkovich say at the end of Rounders again? Oh yeah!
Mudder-fukker! Mudder-fukker!
Fuck me. The Als had a 15 point lead going into the 4th quarter, playing for a bye in the first round, and shit the bed. God damn Cavillo was terrible today, his line was even worse, and his receivers were afraid to catch a ball for fear of getting hit. Shameful!

Re: R U ready for some FOOTBALL?! CFL football that is...
The Als are in big trouble injury wise. Football is one of those games where the supporting cast is HUGE. 4/5 of the Als secondary are out for the year with injuries, so with back-ups playing at both corners, a good QB - like Lulay - can completely expose them. Also, the Als lineman of the year, Josh Bourke, who protects Cavillo's blind side, was lost for the year with a torn pectoral muscle, two weeks ago. Due to this, they have guys playing roles they're not use to on the O-line and that's a huge factor as well. They're also missing Kerry Watkins at receiver, who gives Cavillo another option and keeps the defence honest re how they cover SJ Green and Jamal Richardson.Kid-Wicked wrote:care to explain that one saturday wolf?

The Als have gotten old in a hurry, and the losing is causing a lot of internal squabbling. They're missing that extra gear this year, and it looks like the mini-dynasty is over. It was sure as hell proven that if they play the Lions, in a meaningful game, in BC Place, they will get pummeled. Right now I'm just hoping the Als can come out of the East, which is entirely possible the way Winnipeg and Hamilton are playing, and then hope for the best in the final. No offence, but I'm hoping the Lions get upset - but I don't see it. Lulay is the next great QB in the league, Bruce and Simon are a nice 1-2 punch at receiver, the running game is working when it needs to, and the defence is stellar. Looks like we'll see a home team win the Grey Cup for the first time in many years.

Like I said, the Als injuries were too much to overcome. They put up points on Hamilton, because Hamilton's D isn't the Lions' or the Bombers. On D, with 4/5 of the secondary out, and a significant part of the pass rush, there was no way the Als could contain anyone.Kid-Wicked wrote:that was fucking epic.

They had a nice run, and it will be curious to see what becomes of Trestman, Cavillo, and others, but I have faith in GM Jim Popp. He will always find a way to keep the team competitive, and this year's setback may put the fire back in the Als' bellies for next year. The days of dynasties, a la Edmonton winning 5 in a row, are over.
It should be BC/Winnipeg for the Cup, which would be a great matchup. I DO think it's the Lions' year though. They've been nearly unbeatable since their wretched first 5 weeks.

I like both home teams today.
Winnipeg's defence isn't the Als', and the weather advantage goes to the Bombers as well. I look for the Ticats to suffer a big wake up call today.
Ricky Ray could make things interesting, but the absence of a running game will ultimately hurt the Esks (with Messam out), and I look for the Lions to take their home field advantage right on into the Grey Cup final.
