It's depressing that this side discussion is derailing the true discussion, which should be about the pathetic Colts and their second 0-11 record since 1986 (gee, MY team hasn't been 0-11 in my lifetime, I can only imagine how awful that must be).

But I'll provide some perspective here - yes, the Colts were beloved in Baltimore, and Baltimorians loathe the Irsays, to the point that bars and restaurants in the area actually offered special deals when Irsay, sr, croaked to celebrate his death. It's also heartwarming to know that the greatest Colt ever, Johnny Unitas, refused to have anything to do with the Indy Colts, and adopted the Ravens as his team in the last years of his life.

But in reality, the city absolutely forced Irsay's hand. They were going to claim the team via eminent domain or some shit - in fact the city council voted to the morning after the Colts went to Indy. They refused to build them a new stadium, while Indy already built a nice dome for them.
It wasn't that nice a dome.

Thinking of laying the 20 1/2 this weekend against them. Have indy covered a spread this year?

In 1983, it was a pretty nice dome.

Compared to crumbling Memorial Stadium - a baseball park, not a football park - it was a REALLY nice dome.

I'm just looking at it objectively. The city refused to build him a stadium, and were going to seize the team via eminent domanin the next day. Irsay had a great offer on the table and really had no choice but to take it and move the team out at midnight.

I remember all of it. P13 said that Baltimore didn't support the Colts and I laughed at him. What's the problem?

I didn't pay much attention to the Colts move at the time, but I'd agree that there are two sides to these things. On the surface it looks like Adams moved the Oilers because Houston wouldn't build him a new stadium either. What gets glossed over is the fact that the tax payers had voted in, and were still paying for, multi million dollar renovations to the Astrodome that Adams had insisted he needed just a few years before. I don't think the work was even finished when he decided he had to have a new stadium.

The fans of Baltimore were not going to the games. Attendance was dwindling. The City of Baltimore refused to build a new stadium, necessary for the continued existence of the team. They even threatened to take over the team. Hence, the need to leave the state right away, in the middle of the night. Do you have a problem with any of those FACTS?

Let's see how attendance is at Lucas Oil stadium now that the golden era is over.

They had plenty of games blacked out in the pre-Manning era.

Colts have announced Olrovsky(ex Lions loser QB) will start
the upcoming game.

This basically means the Colts have given up and are doing everything in their power to earn the #1 pick in the next NFL draft.

I'm sure that had nothing to do with their 9-31-1 record over the Colts' last 3 years in Baltimore.

And when your owner is having public flirtations with Jacksonville, Phoenix, and Indianapolis, it doesn't do much to boost ticket sales. I watched it happen in Charlotte with the Hornets.

I disagree.

Painter is probably the worst NFL QB to start this many games in history.

Dan is awful as well but how could he be worse?

Rookie or not, he's got the worse case of happy feet since David Carr. Carr got sacked 800 times before he started that. Gabbert doesn't have that excuse. I dont't think he's gonna make it.

I'm not either, and don't even like politics. But I can identify with a sports team ripping my heart out, i know that.

I'm sorry I didn't see you apologize, meathead, just leave me out of your stupid overly political nonsense, and we will be good.

Of course.

Again I apologize, and the "liberal" thing was intended as a joke. I will never mention anything remotely political to you again in any forum.

I don't buy into excuses. Bottom line, the people of Baltimore weren't supporting the team by buying tickets. And local government refused to help the franchise by building a stadium that would have kept them economically viable. Irsay had every right to move the team to a city where fans were actually excited about the team, and had built a brand new, then state of the art stadium for them. Baltimore fans still bitter about it (and there are plenty) can kiss my ass.

No doubt about it, we're having a horrible season. 0-11 is nothing to be proud of. Losing sucks, which, as a Redskins fan, I'm sure you know. There's no way to sugar coat that. However, in 2-3 years, hindsight will tell us that going 2-14 or 1-15 this year was a huge blessing, compared to going 5-11 or 6-10. Reason being, of course, the #1 pick and what benefit that can bring us over the next ten years or more. In the big picture, I'd rather crash and burn hard for one year, if that can put us in a better position for the future. At least we'll have a top draft pick to show for our misery. Compare that to a team like the Redskins, who've had a never ending streak of below mediocre seasons, yet have never had a high enough draft pick to get one player that could turn it around for them.

I'm not trash talking here, I just want honest opinions....Let's just say the Colts end up drafting Andrew Luck. Is there something I'm missing here that makes Luck a guaranteed star? I've watched games and he looks alright, but far from great. What is it about Luck that is going to take Indy into the future and win consistently?

*And let's remove the "Manning will tutor him" approach. I want info on Luck the player, not how their former QB will help them.

Luck has bust written all over him and I'd say that no matter who drafted him. That said, Cam Newton actually met expectations this season which I didn't really expect at all.

But why talk about the Colts when we can talk about Drew Brees about to smash Marino's record? Eh?

Well there are no sure things when it comes to college players coming into the NFL. There are no guarantees, but Luck is as close as it comes to that. Every draft analyst I've seen gives Luck the highest ratings possible for a QB coming into the draft. Not that that means a whole lot.

In watching Luck a few games this year, his accuracy and decision making have stood out. Luck is one of the few players in college who runs the no huddle and often calls his own plays in certain situations. In that regard, people have compared him to Peyton Manning. His cerebral understanding of the game seems to be phenomenal for a college athlete. His fundamentals are terrific. He hasn't played mistake free football this year and certainly there are some areas he needs to improve on. But he's done pretty well on a team that's mostly lacking top level talent. I really like his chances as a pro prospect.

Everyone agrees that Luck is the second coming of John Elway. Half the "draft experts" thought that Newton was the second coming of Jamarcus Russell.

Considering what Newton and Dalton are doing this season, I feel sorry for any rookie QB's who get thrown into the fire next year. Especially Andrew Luck.
