No, it really isn't. They're on a nice run and no other conference sports close to as many really good programs right now.

SEC so great, quit playing home games against Kent States of the world for 4 games to go 10-2,11-1,12-0

prove your the "best" and play teams home and away from other elite leagues

Why risk it? They beat the hell out of each other in conference. How many Big 12 teams schedule a bunch of tough out of conference games? The SEC is up right now. Arguing that it isn't is just ignorant. The Big 12 was up not that long ago and there was a time the ACC was the big dog. It's cyclical.

Five "good" teams out of 12. I would hardly categorize less than half their schedule as "beating each other up." It's not a murderer's row.

5 of the SEC teams are considered "powerhouse" programs...this season...what about other seasons in the past? On any given year, these are considered the SEC Powerhouse programs:
University of Florida - National Title
University of Georgia - Marginal Powerhouse
University of Kentucky - Marginal Lame Duck
University of South Carolina - Marginal Powerhouse
University of Tennessee - National Title
Vanderbilt University - Marginal Lame Duck
University of Alabama - National Title
University of Arkansas - Marginal Powerhouse
Auburn University - National Title
Louisiana State University - National Title
Mississippi State University - Marginal Powerhouse
University of Mississippi - Marginal Lame Duck

SEC teams play 8 Conference games...as well as 4 OOC games...just like all other conferences...but as of right now, no other conference is as loaded as the SEC with powerhouse programs, and thats just the facts...

Big 12:
Baylor University - Just now coming to importance
Iowa State University - Lame Duck
University of Kansas - Marginal Lame Duck
Kansas State University - Marginal Lame Duck
University of Missouri - Marginal Lame Duck moving to SEC for prominence possibly
University of Oklahoma - National Title
Oklahoma State University - Powerhouse
University of Texas - National Title
Texas A&M University - Powerhouse moving to SEC for prominence possibly
Texas Tech University - Marginal Powerhouse

Big 10
University of Illinois - Marginal Powerhouse
Indiana University - Marginal Lame Duck
University of Iowa - Marginal Powerhouse
University of Michigan - Powerhouse
Michigan State University - Powerhouse
University of Minnesota - Marginal Lame Duck
University of Nebraska - Powerhouse
Northwestern University - Marginal Powerhouse
The Ohio State University - Powerhouse
Pennsylvania State University - Marginal Powerhouse
Purdue University - Marginal Lame Duck
University of Wisconsin - Marginal Powerhouse

Big East...do we even need to do this conference?
University of Cincinnati - Lame Duck
University of Connecticut - Lame Duck
University of Louisville - Lame Duck
University of Pittsburgh - Lame Duck
Rutgers University - Lame Duck
University of South Florida - Hard to call with their program being so new...
Syracuse University - Powerhouse
West Virginia University - Marginal Powerhouse

I could keep going, but its just going to get sadder until I get to the PAC 12 where USC and Oregon are hanging out. There are surely powerhouse programs in almost all the conferences, but the simple fact is, day in and day out, year in and year out (especially the last decade), the SEC has more...they also have the BCS Titles and BCS Bowl wins to match. The stats dont lie...BCS Championships by conference...
Conference.....Wins.........Losses
SEC.................8................1
Big 12..............2................5
ACC.................1................2
Big East...........1.................2
Big Ten............1.................2
Pac-12.............0.................2

Compare it to any other conference. The Big 12 has 2. PAC has 3. I dont think anybody else has more than 1 this year. I'm not even an SEC fan. I'm a Big 12 guy, but calling the SEC overrated is just dumb.

I'm not going to go into detail, but some of your "powerhouse" titles are huge stretches. A lot of those teams haven't been relevant in at least a decade.Texas A&M and Tennesee for example, are powerhouses? Come on now.

LSU will beat 'Bama by 4 TD's.

The wheels are gonna fall off the Tide wagon.

Richardson isn't going to run wild.

The 'Bama QB (McCarron) isn't gonna know up from down, by the time the 4th QTR rolls around.

You heard it here, first.

I heard Gary Danielson say something interesting on the radio. If the 4 major league sports decided their championship the same way college football did, neither the Packers, nor the Cardinals, nor the Mavericks or Bruins would've been in the championship game/series. Hell, throw UConn in there as well.

Tennessee has a BCS Championship...and for several years during this last decade that have fielded great teams...and they will be back. Texas A&M is almost in the same boat...the move to the SEC, I think, will open up the doors for them to have a modest resurgence. As far as the other powerhouse schools I listed in the SEC, tell me where I am so far off base?
Alabama - Legitimate Powerhouse
Auburn - Legitimate Powerhouse
LSU - Legitimate Powerhouse
Florida - Legitimate Powerhouse
Georgia - Legitimate Powerhouse (with slack years in between)

I wasn't talking about just the SEC.I just listed the first two that came to mind. By your standards Notre Dame is still a powerhouse.

This was my whole point. This whole my team beat this team and that team lost to that team is fucking nuts. Who decides a championship that way? Is there any other league like that in the world?

I dont think you'd get any argument about the shittyness of the BCS situation from anybody outside of a few university presidents. I don't know a single fan who doesn't want a playoff.

Know what's not overrated? Being undefeated after playing 8 nationally ranked teams, 3 of which were in the top 5.

Bring it, son. Bring. It.

It's easy to beat ranked teams when the entire voting body overrates a conference.

I want to see LSU play in Wisconsin in November. Or how about 'Bama plays Boise.

I have said this before and I will type it again, one way to remove doubt about which teams are great/good/average is to eliminate the pre-season Top 25 polls.
There should not be any rankings until 4 weeks into the season.
I understand the rankings are there so ESPN and other cable channels can have their own panel shows to debate, discuss and prognosticate.
So what!
Eliminate those pre-season polls that are only based on conjecture/speculation and allow the teams to dictate just how great
they are after 4 weeks.

Then they should play.

"SEC is the best". Why? How? Based on what?

I guess if something is repeated enough times people just take it as fact. :?

What exactly do you propose to figure out the ratings of these fucking 120 total teams (that's just division 1A)? We could have a playoff system in place and there's still gonna be crybabies bitching cuz they got left out of that.

Unless everybody gets to play everybody else and they play the season all fucking year round we're just going to have to settle for an imperfect system. LSU just doesn't have enough time on the schedule to stomp a mudhole in everybody's ass. Sorry.

What about the other divisons in colleget football? They have playoffs.

Nobody is asking for 120 team playoff, but 8 would be nice and even 4. Of course you would have the 5th or 9th guy crying, but who gives a fuck? Right now the way it is, you could be kicking the number 2 team out of it, and some years even the best team out.

I'm a fan of super-conferences. Big 12/Big East merger would have been awesome.

But I don't see why 11 conference winners and 5 at-large teams in a 16-team playoff is so controversial.

I also find it ridiculous that people can say "it's imperfect, but LSU is the best". WTF is that? Do you think it's OK to buy stale food?

I want a playoff too. Div 2 pulls it off just fine. I don't see how that makes the SEC any less "the best" this year. We're gauging this year based on what we've got, and what we've got says the SEC is currently the best football conference in the country.

Please stop right there.
You can not compare Div 2 teams/schools to Div 1.
Sorry. Impossible to do

Why not? I'm not proposing they play each other. I'm simply saying that D2 school's playoff seems to function just fine. Other than the bigger exposure and much higher payouts, what's the difference?

That one part of your sentence there bane, the higher payouts one, yeah that's what's different.
