Fuuuuuuck. That was really something to see, though. Ha, all that talk about the 'new OT rules' and what happens?
I don't see them doing the same thing at Gillette, but who knows?

You guys'll trust that I did it immediately after that play and it tasted a lot like Coors Light. I drink a lot of water.

I'll be highly surprised, and amused, if the Patriots don't stomp Denver next week.

I'd never heard Tebow talk before I saw a bit of him being interviewed by Marino during the pregame, and I can only assume Jesus is helping him suppress his obvious gayness.

These fuckers were NAILING kickoffs. The ball was fucking sailing. And in between saying "TIM TEBOW" every 5 seconds Phil Simms did mention they were hitting 55-yarders in warm ups with ease.
With nothing to lose I don't understand why they didn't. Yeah I get that a block can happen but come on, you got a chance to put that shit away on the road you do it.

Do you also understand the kick trajectory of a 66-67 yard field goal attempt?Crazy Levi wrote:I don't understand why not.Space Bear wrote:I bet Tomlin is agreeing with you right about now.Crazy Levi wrote:They should have let Suisham try that 67-yarder. That would have ruled

Obviously not.
You think they're gonna risk their season being DONE on a blocked kick being returned for a TD, when it wasn't even necessary? That's madness.
During "pre-game warmups" they ALWAYS kick 55+ yarders WITH EASE, pretty much ANYWHERE. Even COLLEGE kickers routinely do that.

So what. They could have given it a shot. 63-yard field goals have been made 3 or 4 times in NFL history. A 66-yarder could have been made too. With 3 seconds on the clock on the road it was worth the risk.
I bet Tomlin wishes he'd given it a shot.

They had FAR BETTER odds to score (and win it) in OT. They had all the momentum.Crazy Levi wrote:Everything you say is true.cantstopthemusic wrote:

He'd do exactly the same thing in the same playoff situation.

Re: NFL 2011 Thread
In that situation you go for it. The odds of a blocked attempt are very small. Denver would have been very careful not to go all out for a block and risk a roughing penalty which in that situation would have been a 15 yard penalty plus 20 seconds on the clock. And there was no danger of a missed attempt giving the ball back to Denver in good position because time would have expired with the ball in the air. He should have gone for it.Crazy Levi wrote:Everything you say is true.cantstopthemusic wrote:

No danger of a high snap going over the holder's head, being scooped up by Denver and ran back for the win, either - right?SkyDog112046 wrote:In that situation you go for it. Get the fuck out of here with that "you go for it" bullshit.
Risk/Reward odds are EXTREMELY LOW for a successful FG in that situation, if you're Pittsburgh.
You SURE AS FUCK know that Belichick wouldn't go for a FG in that situation, either.
It's not like a "free play."

The Steeler fans say it over and over, they will tell you team in history has ever matched the Steelers. If the defense isn't overrated how did they struggle against Painter, Palko, Wallace/McCoy and now Tebow?? You really think they are as good as a few years ago?

I find the "risk/reward" here to be a lot more balanced than you do. The "reward" is winning the fucking game and going home.
You are entitled to your opinion. But I disagree with it. The "risk" is nowhere near the "reward" in this situation. The odds of some fatass defensive lineman, or a tall DB brought in to block the kick and ending up flat on his face, returning the ball 40 yards for a game-winning TD seem pretty low to me.
But hey we'll never know. I would have liked to have seen it at least for entertainment value.

Re: NFL 2011 Thread
On an average weekend there are 16 NFL football games. A typical game features 4-5 FG attempts. Using round numbers say there are 70 attempts each week. Which would mean about 1100 attempts a season. How often is a FG either blocked and run back for a TD or has a bad snap that results in a TD run back? There are about 16 blocks a year, and maybe 1 or 2 run back for TD's. That's about a 1% chance of a FG being blocked and a 0.1% chance of it turning into a TD runback. Contrast that with a 50% chance of losing the coin toss. The correct call is to go for it.cantstopthemusic wrote:No danger of a high snap going over the holder's head, being scooped up by Denver and ran back for the win, either - right?SkyDog112046 wrote:In that situation you go for it.
