This is strictly a business decision, LOL!!
Irsay is throwing his weight around.
So much for loyalty.
Manning is not the 1st "loyal soldier" to have his team turn their back on a player and he won't be the last.
The amount of money he would have earned is ridiculous. Makes the decision very, very easy(from a business angle)
Peyton Manning's 14-year career as a member of the Indianapolis Colts is coming to an end.
Sources close to the team told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen that the announcement will come at a news conference in Indianapolis on Wednesday with both Manning and owner Jim Irsay in attendance.
The decision to pass on the $28 million bonus owed Manning and not to pick up the four remaining years on his contract means Manning will become a free agent, and sources told Mortensen that he intends to continue to play.

Loyalty of paying a player that has a bad neck 28 million & picking up remaining 4 years, or making a smart business move.Machado wrote:This is strictly a business decision, LOL!!

Though not unexpected, this news still cuts like a sharp knife. I don't have too many words now. I'll wait for this to become official tomorrow. Part of me still wants to believe, by some miracle, Irsay and Manning can still work something out. Even if that's a 1% chance, I'll hold out hope until I hear it from them.

Laugh all you want. We've been laughing at the Texans for ten years. I wonder what the "franchise qb" Schaub thinks about all the people who think they should bring Peyton aboard?bane wrote:BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

So many emotions come to mind. Mostly sadness. What a terrible way to end it. But the only thing that gets me through are the memories and what an amazing ride it's been. In 30 years I will get to tell people that I got to watch Peyton Manning play every Sunday. I got to watch the greatest QB of all time play on MY team! And what a joy it was. What a privilege. That's something no one can take away, ever. And Peyton may finish his career in another jersey. But when it's all said and done, Peyton will be remembered as a Colt, and Peyton will always be a Colt.

Rumor is that Freeney is next on the chopping block.

Re: Indy and Manning parting ways
To me, the writing has been on the wall since early January when the shocking news about the Polians came out. It was obvious then that Irsay wanted total change. To this day I still disagree vehemently with it. Now we're in a total rebuild mode. When Irsay jettisoned basically the entire foundation of the franchise and decided to start over, it became apparent it wouldn't make much sense for either side to bring Peyton back. Peyton wants familiarity, but what he would come back to would be a totally different team, top to bottom. And a team that likely won't be a contender for a couple seasons. I'll always, always, maintain that Irsay should have steadied the ship, maintained the same management that was a proven winner, and stick with what made up the top franchise for the past decade. Now we're in a mode of deep rebuilding and total change. It didn't need to be this way.bigpaparob74 wrote:Rumor is that Freeney is next on the chopping block.

What a horrible day. Tomorrow is going to be even worse. Wonder if I'll even be able to sleep. Watching the press conference is going to be gut wrenching. It didn't have to end this way.

Definitely curious to see where he goes. Everyone's saying he's 'made too much progress' for retirement to be an option.
