Re: The official NHL thread
You had to know the Devils were going to score after the Flyers couldn't cash in on consecutive PP's.
Bad change or not, Bryzgalov can't give up juicy rebounds like that. Crazy how the guy does not have an extra gear in the playoffs.

Re: The official NHL thread
Gotta hand it to the Devils...that pressure and smother thing definitely works against the Flyers usual (and tiresome) dump and chase. Typical Flyers...twice as hard, half as smart. Turnovers due to prsssure, etc. Hopefully Lavi has it figured out and next game is a little different.
As for Bryz and Marty, they are kinda a wash as far as their level of play. Neither is really out performing the other.
Edited to add: and how can I forget to mention that The Flyers PP had better get back in gear. They are letting NJ beat them to the puck, pressure them, outwork them in the corners, etc. Even on the PP we are on the defensive. Again, I have to say, the Devils have been playing a smart, mostly defensive game...unlike The Shittsburgh Pigeons who played The Flyers style of game and got The Flyers pissed off (which makes them play a better, grittier game) NJ is playing a controlled, measured game and keeping The Flyers on a pretty even keel emotionally. Not good. Lavi needs to adjust and light a fire under their ass. I still think The Flyers will pull it out in the long run.

The Blues are done. I'm really surprised it's gone this way, I thought this would be a close series with STL taking it in 6 or 7.

The Kings are fuckin' SCARY after just having eked into the playoffs. They're on the verge of knocking off the top 2 seeds in the West and hardly breaking a sweat. It's huge to get through two rounds having played so few games. They can easily go all the way, especially with Jon Quick in nets.Lardbucket wrote:The Blues are done. For some reason I put 'going' in that sentence. These things to happen to everyone at some point.

So...The Flyers can't break the Devil's forecheck. Stick a fork in 'em...they're done. Yay...now we get to watch NJ bore us with even more of the most snooze inducing hockey ever. Been their calling card for years. Suits NJ to a tee. Lose or not...Bryz STILL outplayed Marty thus far.

Flyers have been playing like high schoolers in their defensive zone, so that didn't help either.

I agree, but depite my shit-talking NJ...it's due to their pressure and forechecking. And as boring as I find it to watch, they planned fucking brilliantly for this series against The Flyers.

Does Giroux get suspended for that hit?
Ovi sure as shit didn't for that hit on Girardi.
Logos and laundry aside, can we agree that Ovi and GuyRocks should have been suspeneded for those hits? Speaking in hockey, not in fandom.

Re: The official NHL thread
Giroux should absolutely get a game or two, as Ovechkin should have. However, we all know the league looks the other way when a star is involved. If you think the playoff's leading scorer, and Flyer's best player, is going to be suspended for an elimination game, I have some nice oceanfront property in Kansas I'd like to show you...Tommy wrote:Does Giroux get suspended for that hit?

Shanny will spout some mumbo jumbo, Giroux will get a $2500 fine, like Weber, and then Giroux will score the winning goal in OT in game 5.

BUT...
"Zubrus returned to play in the third period. Giroux has no track record of prior supplemental discipline. Both of those facts will likely play into Shanahan’s ruling."
In cases like this, and weighing in the fact that Giroux is NOT a dirty player, you may as well keep in line with what you've been doing all post season (though very inconsistently) with this rash of headhunting. Address it once the season is finished. But hey...it IS The Flyers.

I didn't watch the Flyers game, but I didn't think Ovi desereved a suspension for his hit. That was marginal at best.

Re: The official NHL thread
Told ya they would decide to suspend Giroux. He got 1 game. Nice how they conveniently turned a blind eye to Malkin making a whole new sport out of "Headhunting on Ice" during The Flyers vs Pigeons series. Ovechkin, a repeat offender, walked as well. Nice one NHL.
I hope, though I doubt it will happen, that this fires The Flyers up and they actually play with some heart the game he's out to compensate for his absence.

They should probably stay consistent if they want to stop those kind of hits. All or none.

*womp*womp* Flyers end it with a damp squib. Congrats Devils...even though you are the most boring team on the planet you played The Flyers perfectly. Hope you smother and trap your way to another cup (no not really...GO KINGS!)

Ed Snider is wondering how many people he needs to fire, and goalies he needs to sign, before he gets his name on the Cup again.
I'll never get the Flyers. One series they can look like the 74-75 Flyers, the Habs of the late 70's, and the mid-80's Oilers all rolled into one, the next they look like the Colorado Rockies, complete with Hardy Arstrom in nets!
