Agreed, but hey, at least he seemed to play more through pain than Prior did. Granted, he still had his surgeries and other stints on the DL, but he was a lot tougher than Prior. Disappointed that Wood never met my expectations (and a lot of others'), but he's a stand-up guy...

Wood wasn't overated as much as a huge pile of unrealized potential. He refused to listen to his coaches and throw more overhanded and ruined his entire right arm. No pitcher can throw that hard across their body without breaking down.

Agreed. And regarding the "he never won 15 games in a season": he hadn't started a game since he was 29 years old, converting to a reliever in 2007. And let's not forget that in 4 of his 6 seasons as a full-time starter he had:

--over 200 K's
--averaged anywhere from 9.2-12.6 K's per 9 innings
--had an ERA that ranged from 3.22-3.66

Taking pitches wildly overated when he can hit anything thrown up there. He has more hits at his age than just about anyone in the game right now. What they NEED is people that can be on base when he's stroking like this. He needs to be a 3 hitter, not a 2.

It seems that way. June 21st is the magic date for him -- if he's called up on or after this date, the Cubs retain an extra year of control over him. The general consensus is that he'll be brought up at some point between June 21st and the July 31st trade deadline...

which is a good move....he's one of the only coaches that stayed when the new regime came in and he's not Theo's guy so it was bound to happen

hitting coaches are important in helping young players adjust and figure out the next step when the league has figured you out
and hopefully the next guy will preach patience

Agreed. That fucker never preached plate discipline. When they first hired him they made a big deal over his "success" with the Rangers. I don't think the Rangers scored all of those runs because of him. More like having lots of talent and playing half of your games in a hitter's park...
