Sather raped CBJ ala the Gomez/McDonagh trade.

Dubi is overrated and Anisimov is Anisnail. I'll miss the 1st rounder though.

I think Nash is over-rated. A 65-70 point player. Having said that, he's never played with anyone of note, so he could explode.

The 1st rounder is useful, but since the Rangers stand to be good, it's a lof first rounder. Erixon is a good young, D-man, but the Rangers have plenty of those. Anisimov is a 2nd liner, and Dubinsky a role player.

Advantage Ramgers, but it's not a rape of Gomez proportion.

nash was the best player on team canada in 2010.

mike gillis was on the radio for 3 hours today. he said the canucks asked aboot him but the bj's wanted way too much for him not to mention he'd be playing on the second line which wasn't a good fit fot nash or the canucks.

sounds like they really want shane doan and have told him so but his agent hasn't given them any numbers yet.

he also said that teams have been calling aboot luongo since the canucks lost in the first round but they aren't in any real hurry to trade him.

The thing I don't get is that the BJ's wanted a 1st rounder, Del Zotto, Stepan or Kreider, and Dubinsky. The compromise should have been to get EITHER Del Zotto instead of Erixon, or Stepan/Kreider over Anisimov - hopefully the latter.

IMO the above is the crime in the deal for Columbus. They did OK, but if you're trading your best player you need to win some part of the deal. Same as when the Habs dealt Halak. Eller was an "OK" return, but they should have tried for Oshie, and maybe settled for David Perron.

I'd like Nash to be come a more complete player, but of course now that he's in the East - fuck'em - I hope he sucks in NY, though I'm sure that won't be the case.

Good for them. It couldn't have been easy for them to do, but not doing so would have sent a message to their fan base that they're perpetually trying to be better "next year" or in 2-3 years. It could have killed hockey there.

Now I'm just curious how happy Weber is (or isn't).

I'm sure he's cool.. Nashville is an aweosme city. If he wanted out, he would have waited and signed as an UFA so the Preds couldn't match.

Actually, yes,I was surprised.I understand the reasoning that it woud be devastating to lose both Suter and Weber(note correct spelling).However.... we're talking a consortium of small time millionaires(Nashville's Owners) vs Comcast(Philly's owners,Snider is just a figurehead). This move wasn't easy, and it can and still might jeopardize the team finacially.Nashville is paying real dollars,Comcast would've just been moving figures on a balance sheet.

Two Interesting bit on the Fan 590 last week
- Poile suggested that 70% of the Preds crowd is walk-up,ie fair weather fans.-This is coming from the GM.If the team is winning, they will be there. At the time it appeared as though he had admitted defeat and was ready to move on with rebuilding/reloading.

-when Suter's agent was asked how would he feel if Nashville matched the offer, there was seven seconds of silence followed by a winded"that's a good question." He went on to say that Suter is a professional and would honor his contract.-Not exactly an endorsement of the city of Nashville, nor the Preds franchise.

This may very well turn into a sort of "sign and trade" down the road(after the 1st year of the deal,as per the current bargaining agreement) with the same Flyers. The two teams have done business before and if the Preds owners get buyers remorse they could trade him and get a player who can help them now(Briere was the name tossed around on The Fan) as well as picks. This way, they get something for him as well as rebuiding tools(picks).

Forgot to mention the biggest reason I was surprised; The 1-2-3-4,FOUR signing bonuses of 13 million each that will protect Weber(note correct spelling) in case of a lock-out or salary roll back with the new CBA....the same new CBA that smal/mid market teams like Nashville,Minnesota and Carolina keep begging for.-The same Nashville,Minnesota and Carolina that have gone off the deep end with contracts this summer....not exactly helping their cause any, only giving lots of firepower to the NHLPA and Donald Fehr.

The worst thing you can do is tell your whole fanbase that you don't care about winning. Trust me, i know this all to well. They had to match.

While I don't disagree with you, sometimes it's not that easy.Nashville doesn't have deep pockets, and have been well below the cap forever. If the money's not there....

Look for him to get traded in year two, especially if the Preds under perform in the playoffs again this year...provided there is a season.

they're 16 million under the cap. they're only a few million above the floor. this move was a no brainer.

I think Nash is overrated too as far as an all around "elite" player like he is considered by some to be. However, he can score goals, a lot of goals. Torts' camp is going to get his chubby ass in shape. And actually this makes me not hate that Brad Richards contract as much. I'm hoping those 2 can click.

And maybe "raping" wasn't accurate, but for what they wanted at the deadline they got not much. And I think Erixon might be ok, but he couldn't beat out Bickel, Woywitka or Eminger for that 6/7 spot last year.

Would have been nice to see Jan Erixson's kid do well as a Ranger, but it's not meant to be.

And I must stress again, Dubi is overrated as fuck. $4+ mil for 10 goals and 24 assists? Pfff. See ya. Also took the fewest shots in his career. Makes me think he got comfortable when he got that deal. Plus him and/or his agent were a real pain in the ass twice on contracts. Fucking guy held out the first time.

And Anisimov is a slower version of Antropov.

So when do you all think the season will start. I think it will start January 1 with the Winter Classic being the centerpiece of opening day.

Agreed.

In many US markets, attendance sucks until after baseball season is over, or just sucks in general in the early part of the season. Those owners don't mind losing up to a quarter of their home dates for "the cause".

Don Fehr knows exactly what he's doing. The players' first proposal included a lot of revenue sharing ideas, and $ they "give back" being allocated to poorer teams. He's trying to get the owners to fight amongst themselves.

I'm with the players on this one. THEY are the product, and gave at the office last time. Owners don't have to spend to the cap, don't have to give out long-term contracts, etc.

The issues of which revenues are "hockey related revenue" and what % of revenue can go to players has already been defined by other leagues. This shouldn't be so tough, if owners don't go for the kill shot.
