Red Sox have 72 hours to work out trade if interested.
They can also let him walk or pull him back.

He's not going anywhere. Lester and Ellsbury were also placed on trade waivers.

Gonzo is still an elite hitter, but in two years of watching him play he looks uncomfortable ( I posted his hit charts a few pages back, it's a shoulder issue or a pressure issue ). He can't handle playing in Boston. I wouldn't lose any sleep of him being gone or his 114m. Thanks Theo!

Also I wouldn't mind losing his inability to get a fucking hit when the score is tied and there's RiSP. Then saying "it was God's will." No motherfucker you choked like Arod. If it was "God's will" then he must hate your punkass.

I hate this fucking team. This is like the late 80s/early 90s again, I keep expecting Jack Clark to return.

If I was the Sox I'd work out a trade...and toss in Beckett and Lackey for free.

Seriously, if they can clear his salary off the books and figure out a way to get rid of Beckett and Lackey they won't be in bad shape going forward. I like an infield with Pedroia, Iglesias, and Middlebrooks with Salty behind the plate. 1B is probably the easiest position to fill (wish Youk was still there). The rotation needs a lot of work. Lester and Buccholz are fine, and it looks like Doubront can be a 4/5, but they need 2 quality arms in the rotation and a bonafide closer. Not to mention bullpen help.

I feel bad for Crawford. I don't think he was right since he got to Boston, and he got jerked around by their medical staff. He should have gone for surgery in spring training. He hasn't been a contributor, but at least he works hard and keeps his mouth shut. I think he deserves another shot.

They just flashed on SC that it could be P Rubby De La Rosa, 1B James Loney, 3 minor leaguers. Couldn't see if there was anything more.
I'm sure it depends on how much the Sox are will to eat in salaries.

I figured Loney was on his way out because Gonzo would be taking his spot.

There is no way in hell that happens.

Oh and Boston's dismal season isn't Valentine's fault ( although last night's loss was ). It all comes down to pitching ( or lack there of ) and there aren't any Dirt Dogs on the roster anymore, except Pedroia.

Loney is a major downgrade from Gonzalez. They must have a lot of faith in Mauro Gomez.

Loney has been scratched from the Dodgers lineup tonight.
Now, Andre Ethier's name is being thrown around.

It doesn't really matter what they get in return. This is a salary/bad character dump. This is would still be a good deal if all the Sox got back was a couple of single A prospects.

Peavy is saying the right things, but if I were stuck on nine wins because the bullpen is retarded I'd be fucking pissed.

By Mark Gonzales

Tribune reporter

11:02 p.m. CDT, August 24, 2012
Jake Peavy said he wasn't in the dugout Friday night when Seattle scored six runs off three Chicago White Sox relievers in the top of the ninth inning that cost Peavy a well-deserved victory.

But Peavy seemed more satisfied after the offense rallied the Sox to a 9-8 victory on Paul Konerko's hit in which the ball flew out of the glove of right fielder Eric Thames after he collided with center fielder Michael Saunders.

"I’m happy, and if this team gets in the playoffs, that’s all any of us are worried about," Peavy said after pitching seven innings of two-run ball and leaving with a 7-2 lead. "Personal stats, they’ll take care of themselves."

Peavy was in the clubhouse getting treatments when the Mariners rallied and said, "it wasn't a good atmosphere, obviously."

Peavy said the mood changed once the Sox prepared to bat in the bottom of the ninth.

"I was sitting here with Adam Dunn, and I said, ‘hey, go down that dugout and make sure those boys are ready to go in the ninth, and there’s no way we lose this ballgame, " Peavy recalled. "Dunner said ‘I got you.’ I know he went down there with a positive attitude, and Gordon (Beckham) getting on to start the ninth was huge. That’s what this team has been about all year. You see the resiliency, the never-say-die (attitude)."

It also was an awkward situation for closer Addison Reed, who had his streak of consecutive save conversions snapped at eight after trying to clean up the mess started by Philip Humber, who allowed a home run to Jesus Montero and a walk, and Donnie Veal, who allowed a double to Trayvon Robinson.

"Everything was out of sync," Reed said. "I was leaving the balls up. I can feel my arm dragging behind, and everything was up and away. I know what I was doing wrong, but it’s just one of those things that I couldn’t correct out there. I was ready. Everything felt fine. I just didn’t execute.

Reed took responsibility for not backing up third base when the throw from right fielder Alex Rios skipped past third baseman Kevin Youkilis, allowing the Mariners to score the go-ahead run.

"Everything is a lot better," Reed said. "I’m ready to go for tomorrow. So, I’m not worrying about it anymore."
He's like the Liberace of bass & pot.

Wow.

Doesn't matter what they get in return. Just cleaning out the clubhouse and getting some salary relief going forward makes this deal worthwhile.

It's official. Link: http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/base ... position=0

The rebuilding of the Red Sox begins today.

Early this morning, the Red Sox and Dodgers concluded a blockbuster deal in which the Red Sox shipped four players -- Adrian Gonzalez, Josh Beckett, Carl Crawford and Nick Punto -- in exchange for a massive relief in salary as well as four minor-leaguers and first baseman James Loney, according to a Red Sox source. The deal will be worth in excess of $275 million to the Red Sox, including luxury tax savings and salaries for the remainder of this season and beyond. Over the next six years, the Dodgers will receive $12 million from the Red Sox, with the payments to begin next year.

Through a mixture of underperformance and bad seeds in the clubhouse, the Red Sox, out of the playoffs mix since 2009, have needed a massive overhaul that most thought would begin in the offseason.

The Dodgers, under new ownership, sped up that timetable by making waiver claims this month.

Loney is the lone current major leaguer that the Sox will receive. The 28-year-old is a career .284 hitter. He’s hitting .254 this year with four homers and 33 RBI in 114 games. The Sox will also receive right-hander Allen Webster (a top pitching prospect), right-hander Rubby de la Rosa, outfielder Jerry Sands and second baseman Ivan De Jesus.

Webster, 22, was 6-8 with a 3.55 ERA and 117 strikeouts in 121.2 innings at Double-A Chattanooga. De la Rosa was recently called up to the Dodgers. The 23-year-old flamethrower (he’s been clocked at 99 mph) has already had Tommy John surgery, but he is 11-9 in the minors with a 2.75 ERA. Sands, 24, was the Dodgers’ 2010 Minor League Player of the Year and was hitting .303 with 24 homers and 101 RBI at Triple-A Albuquerque. De Jesus, 25, was hitting. 295 at Triple-A Albuquerque.

The names are not familiar, but the impetus is being able to clear as much as $271.5 million in committed payroll, a drastic slash-and-burn attempt by a Red Sox organization eager to return to the club to stable footing after losing its bearing the last couple of years.

A Red Sox source said last night that the Dodgers would be on the hook for “more than $260 million” of the remaining contracts of the four Red Sox players, which is nearly 96 percent.

FSG should spend that freed up Red Sox payroll on new signings at Liverpool if they want that investment to work out. The natives on Merseyside are getting restless at the lack of investment from John Henry. They've dumped some payroll at Liverpool too, but haven't replaced those sold, or let go. Fans are angry for a new stadium as well, but it seems FSG doesn't really have the money to get one built. Along with the Glazers it seems FSG are the poorest billionaires in sports.

What are Red Sox fans thoughts on FSG? Are they fed up with them like Liverpool fans are?

A lot of Red Sox fans thought that Henry and Co. were investing all their money into Liverpool which was why they couldn't afford to waste more money throwing it at the problems the Red Sox were having.
I would guess that most fans have no idea what is going on with Liverpool because they don't care.
Never heard anything about FSG ignoring Liverpool.
Fans were pretty fed up before today's deal.

We're pissed about it. What? Why on NESN are you showing soccer games? Nobody gives a fuck. Especially about a team that's not very good. It just makes me hate this ownership group more.

I can't believe the Boston/LA trade is happening. I thought it would take longer to clean up Epstein's shitshow. Good luck Cubs  I think including Crawford is a mistake though.

I was watching the Seattle game last night. They were on a 9 game win streak, and then to have Wilhelsom blow your 9th inning rally? I would be pissed, but at least he's not as paid as Pappelbon.
