Terrell Owens - Opinions

Post by DoubleVodkas »

I've only been into football for the past five years or so as it slowly became bigger over here in the UK.

Now, this Terrell Owens chap. Judging by what I've seen and read about him he tends to polarise opinion. Personally I think every sport needs characters like him to stop it from becoming bland corporate nonsense.

I also believe elite sportsman need a hint of arrogance or even narcissism to reach the top. It is what sets them apart. However, they are even greater if they can justify their arrogance with their actions.

Back to Owens. I know you Yanks like your stats. I've had a look at Owens and he certainly has some good numbers. Do they put him in the elite bracket of the NFL? Being quite new to the sport I was wondering how he is rated and how he will be remembered? Over rated self publicist? Or quality WR?

Sludgers opinions?

Oh, I think his celebrations are great. Pity I didn't get to watch him in his prime.

First ballot hall of famer. He's made a lot of IMPORTANT catches stats be damned, which he has amassed anyway.
He's like the Liberace of bass & pot.

I'd like to add the he's a miserable turd of a human being and proof that young men need a father in their life. His grandmother babied him.

He was a great receiver and brought it in the eagles super bowl.

Unfortunately, now he's a washed up player and without the skills, his act is just a nuisance.

One of the all time great WR's. Seems his personal life is awful, though.

One of the top 2 or 3 WR's in the game in his prime. To me he is what a "pro athlete" looks like, always in fantastic shape and seemingly prepared to play at a high level. Numbers-wise he is there, but somewhere along the way, the guy completely lost the plot of who he was, the money and fame ruined the man. I think he is a Hall of Famer, but it may take him longer than that prick, Cris Carter, to get in.

Cris Carter not being in the hall is the biggest bunch of BS that horrible institution may have ever spit out. What a joke. Prick or not, he belongs in.

He didn't cuss or swear at fans or people involved with the team. He worked his ass off and played with about fifty qbs, not Montana Or Young or Aikman.

Fuck these people for not putting him in.

Not 1st ballot caliber.
If Cris Carter is not in the HOF, then T.O. can not be inducted before
Carter.

T.O. put up the stats to earn a HOF induction, but his life after football
is going to be a mess.

I fucking love the clip of him doing a workout outside his house.

It is a pity the money, fame etc. got to him as he seemed to be very dedicated, driven and confident.

While I agree Chris Carter should be in there, your point doesn't make that much sense...

1) Two wrongs don't make a right.

2) Owens has more receptions, yards, yards per reception and touchdowns than Carter - in less games.

3) Not 1st ballot calibre? Then who is? He has the 2nd most touchdowns by a receiver ever, the 2nd most receiving yards ever and the 6th most receptions ever. Sure, stats don't tell the whole story, but in this instance they say enough.

If he's not 1st ballot it is a travesty, no matter what kind of dick he is.

Plus, all he did was catch touchdowns.

Terrell Owens was the best receiver in his prime but one of the worst teammates in the history of team sports. He was a cancer in the locker room and would be surprised if he is voted in on his first try, even though his numbers qualify him for first ballot hall of fame.

Yep, he was a cancer. But he also gave the Eagles their best McNabb era season by far, and came back from a broken leg to get 120 yards in the Superbowl. That all counts for something IMO.

Treating your qb and teammates like shit, and holding your team hostage while you hang out and seek attention in your driveway are reasons not to be let in the hall.

Not wanting to talk to the media is not. Yet the latter seems to be punished worse than anything.

You want to see TO in his prime, just watch Dez Bryant. Oh wait you mean on the field. Now that the Seahawks have released him hopefully we can have a year without hearing his name. It is starting to reach Favre preportions.

I'm still pulling for TO to make a roster somewhere. He's still good for 800 yards and 7-8 TD's.

How would you rate TO when comparing him to, say, Michael Irvin or Chris Carter, or even a Jerry Rice?

Owens is a douche bag who I hope gets nailed for roids or commits a major felony banning him from the sport and eventually the HOF for life. Owens is part of a generation of self absorbed megalomaniac individual assholes who are in it for money, fame, attention and simply for themselves. Screw the team, legacy and the sport, it's all about Owens, Fuck him.

No question he's a fucking phenom on the field but I wouldn't rank him among my favorites. Even in his prime I wouldn't want him on my team. Owens and Randy Moss are type of players who ruin the game for me. No more horse collars just because he's a pussy with a huge paycheck. Pretty soon it's going to be the NFL, National Flag League.

My favorite Terrell Owens moment was when George Teague blasted him off the star and I hate the Cowboys.

In the new NFL GM poll Bryant was voted the player that's wasting his potential more than anyone in the league.
