A senior at a Washington high school hit a 67-yard field goal on the night of Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012 to tie the mark for the second-longest field goal ever in a high school game. It also helped his Central Valley team go on to win the game in overtime.
Austin Rehkow of Central Valley High nailed the kick with distance to spare on Thursday night and it tied the game with Sadle Park High at 55 to end regulation. Central Valley ended up winning in overtime 62-55.
Rehkow's field goal is a Washington state record. A record that has been place since a 62-yard field goal was made way back in 1929. He also tied the mark for the second-longest field goal in high school history according to The National Federation of High Schools Record Book.
The longest is a 68-yard field goal which was set in 1985 by Dirk Borgognone in Reno, Nevada.
The record in the NFL is a 63-yard field goal that has been made by Tom Dempsey, Jason Elam, Sebastian Janikowski, and most recently David Akers.
Central Valley coach Rick Giampietri said that he knew the kick had a chance to go as soon as it left Rehkow's foot.
''It wasn't spinning real fast. He hit it right in the belly,'' Giampietri said. ''It went between the uprights.''
The young kicker knew he had a strong leg, but his accuracy wasn't always there. He had only been at 50 percent for the season going into the game.
''I felt confident in my leg strength,'' Rehkow told The Spokesman-Review newspaper. ''I went out there and you get that extra adrenaline going. I let it rip. Luckily it stayed through the uprights and once I saw the arms go up (from referees) it was just an overwhelming feeling of joy.''
''I couldn't have done it without a great team putting me in the position. The line gave me enough time. Great snap, great hold,'' he said.

Different bouncy ball? I've played in different leagues that had some kickable skins. That fucker took off like it came out of the womb at light speed.

Someone needs to hit a 64 yarder. The only one of those four I consider legitimate is Akers and that hit the crossbar. Akers came at sea level. Dempsey had a club foot. Elam and Janikowski were elevation aided.Luminiferous wrote:Looked like he had distance to spare..

That kid in St. Louis is going to kick one farther. He missed a 65 yarder wide right but it had plenty of distance.
He's like the Liberace of bass & pot.

I agree with your comments on elevation.johnk5150 wrote:Someone needs to hit a 64 yarder. The only one of those four I consider legitimate is Akers and that hit the crossbar. Akers came at sea level. However a the club-footed guy is totally legit IMO. Sure, he's a freak, and sure, it might have helped his kicking, but sport is full of people who have genetic advantages. They're bigger, faster, stronger, have better reflexes etc. etc. That dude had a messed up foot. Still counts.
