Technically, yes. I have in-laws in Suffolk County. They're not taking the train to Brooklyn.

It was inevitable.

With a new building, and the struggles they've had getting a new building on the Island, it had to happen. It was either Brooklyn or Quebec, so the locals are making out as well as they can.

Only thing is I've heard the building was not built with hockey in mind, and for the exhibition game that was scheduled this pre-season, there were going to be obstructed view seats.

The Locals will end up happy about this. Much easier to take the train than drive and you can get nice and sloppy drunk.

The Colliseum is probably the worst arena in the entire country. It's the absolute pits and not just because it's a shithole. It's dangerous.

From an email I got today from barclay's:

"In support of the illustrious history of the team, the Islanders logo and name will remain unchanged."

They could well change the uniforms a bit though I suppose.

They'll have to tweak the logo a little bit. Today I read that the Long Island shape doesn't include Brooklyn. I never noticed that before.

The steps there are fucking insane. Like some drunk guy poured the concrete after a blind guy built the forms. But those banners are beautiful.

I'm happy, something needed to be done.

Do you think if the Lighthouse project has materialized, had the Nets moved to Queens rather than to Brooklyn?

The NHL insisted the logo and name stay the same. I don't know if many people know this but Bettman has been an Isles fan since he was a kid. No wonder he's a miserable prick.

FUllD, I have no clue, man. I'm not from there so i don't know much about that.

I realize that, but the current logo only shows Nassau and Suffolk counties. I'm guessing they'll add the west end of the island.

Oh it looks fine

Reminds me of when Phoenix had an end of the ice where a balcony was hanging over a goal. When the puck went to that end, everyone had to look up at the scoreboard because they couldn't see what was going on right near them.

oh god and for one billion dollars you could probably build a football stadium or a skyscraper...anyone know why the construction cost was so high? Was it the subway station?

You want to know why an arena is Brooklyn costs so much? Crazy Levi paid 60 bucks for bbq in NYC, and I paid 16 bucks for a ketel 1 on the rocks.

I also heard it's very nice. Some Isles fans went to see the Nets play and wrote about it.

I live in Florida. But I went to two isles games last year.

BTW, weren't you the one COMPLAINING about the price of the building? I surely wasn't.

You've been wrong in this thread a lot.

Yea sorry if IMO if you spend a billion dollars on an indoor arena maybe you should make sure it's fine for both basket and hockey.

I believe Staples center in LA, Bell center in Montreal, were both built to a third of the cost. How is not a legitimate question?

There were a multitude of things that added up in that cost. The prices of real estate, legal battles, and union labor are three major factors they dealt with that have a much lower price tag outside of NYC. It would be fun to compare the labor costs in some of these buildings vs Barclays and see how much having to use union labor on absolutely everything really costs.

That train station could be expensive as hell too. When Staples Center was announced, L.A. looked at extending their (then under construction) subway four blocks to be next to the arena. They couldn't afford to do it and probably regret it now with L.A. Live and the potential football stadium next door to Staples.

I'll be attending the Stones show on Saturday, and will be sure to let you all know if the place is worth the money those Jews forked out to get it made.
