I live in Phoenix and am a season ticket holder to the Yotes and HELL NO this town does not deserve an NHL team.

Re: The official NHL thread
Tampa was 13th is attendance the last time they played a season, MADE THE FINAL FOUR IN 2010-11 and won a cup 8 years ago. They also have one of the best players on the NHL on their team? So tell me, why don't they deserve a team again? No snow?Kid-Wicked wrote:florida, tampa, nashville, phoenix and columbus.
Florida and Nashville had better attendance than 11 teams, including the Aves, The Isles and the Devils. But those place are in the north, they get to keep their team.

Re: The official NHL thread
Attendance figured can be manipulated. The key is to look at the revenue teams generate. It's easy to sell tickets when they cost 4 for $100 for the best seats in the house.NeverSurrender wrote:Tampa was 13th is attendance the last time they played a season, MADE THE FINAL FOUR IN 2010-11 and won a cup 8 years ago. Nashville seems to be a solid hockey market.Kid-Wicked wrote:florida, tampa, nashville, phoenix and columbus.
In fact Columbus isn't too bad either.
Lots of northern people in Florida so that keeps the teams going.

Phoenix is the only one on the list that should be moved. And it should be moved to Seattle.

Tampa should be one of the last team contracted. Th funny part is, dallas, with the exception of the Coyotes should be contracted the most, but he didn't mention them.

Mark my words, when this is all said and done, the way the owners are going to print more cash for themselves is to expand by two teams. It's all mapped out. Seattle and Quebec City will have teams, and if it's not via relocation, it will be via expansion.

Fuck, I hope not. Phoenix should move to Quebec if anything, and Seattle can have the Panthers or Stars.WOLF wrote:Mark my words, when this is all said and done, the way the owners are going to print more cash for themselves is to expand by two teams. Yeah, the fact they sell less tickets than 30 other teams means nothing.Kid-Wicked wrote:dallas has new ownership and a decent history as a strong market so they're looked at as being safe.NeverSurrender wrote:Tampa should be one of the last team contracted. So tell us again who should go. I love my Isles, but we have the worst owner, the worst run team and horrible attendance. Yet they fight to keep them? But you think they should get rid of an organization like Tampa?
It's either hypocrisy or ignorance. Take your pick.

Panthers aren't going anywhere.
And fuck Quebec. Phoenix to Seattle if any relocations.

Florida's hockey market is too small for two teams. There's room for one, and IMO it should be Tampa. Florida should be moved.

Re: The official NHL thread
Jacobs sent notice to the season ticketholders saying the full season will be refunded if a deal isn't reached by 1/2. So deal by then. Mid January start. They could probably do a 50 game season with playoffs starting maybe 5 days later than usual.
Florida and Phoenix were sporting sell outs in the playoffs this year. It's not so much non hockey markets as non crap teams. The Islanders are going to see a nice revenue increase with the Brooklyn move and they have some players. Nashville and Tampa have a good base of fans. Columbus would probably be the lead candidate for a move as of now.
I could see the owners expanding to Quebec City, Kansas City and Seattle.

chunga is one of the last believers.
I'd sy 8 or 9 out of ten fans do not think there will be a season.

sports radio in vancouver talks about hockey and football for the most part. everything else is in the background.
dallas lost 1.1 million. the new owner (from vancouver) is supposed to turn it around. islanders lost 8.1 million i believe. isn't the big issue on long island the arena? aren't they gonna try brooklyn? i heard that the league doesn't want to move them because of the history there. All told, 18 of the 30 clubs are shown to be running in the red compared to 16 in the Forbes report last year. But, the 21% declined is skewed primarily by two clubs: Coyotes and Blue Jackets. The Coyotes, who continue to struggle in Phoenix and have been relocation fodder is shown to have lost $24.4 million while Columbus shows a $13.7 million loss. They are the only two clubs with losses in double-digits with the Lightening coming in a very distant third in the loss department at losses of $8.5 million.

Re: The official NHL thread
Jacobs', and the other hard line owners', plan is based on the owners presenting their "best offer" in early January, and the players being sick of losing pay checks and taking it. However, I think they've WAY underestimated Donald Fehr, and the resolve of the players, and he/they may be shocked to find that the players reject the owners' "best offer", leaving the owners with no outs, a disillusioned fan base, and a cancelled season.chungasrevenge wrote:Jacobs sent notice to the season ticketholders saying the full season will be refunded if a deal isn't reached by 1/2. The game is damaged long-term. I am their fan base. I usually buy a 5-10 game package for the Habs, NHL Center Ice, and 1-2 shirts and some other merch, each year. I'm done. I'll go to games when I get freebies, watch on TV for free, and no NHL merch for me or my kid. I'm enjoying taking my son and dad to junior hockey, and coaching my son's Novice team. I can still enjoy hockey and spend my money elsewhere. SUCK IT GARY!

Wolf, i won't even wear my NFL swag. The shit I already own, much less buy new shit. I don't even follow the lockout. I hear about it from you guys and the people at Islandermania.com. Fuck these assholes.
Should we take them seriously with no link, and the fact they don't know how to spell Lightning?Kid-Wicked wrote:pieceofme wrote: He has a point Kid-Wicked.

Re: The official NHL thread
I think a WNBA Nude Beauty Pageant would draw bigger ratings than the Tampa/Calgary Finals! To me this is a lockout where the owners are out for blood and the bottom line is that most of the owners treat their NHL team like we do gym memberships. Unlike the players who sole source of income is hockey and endorsements they get from hockey most owners have several businesses and an NHL team is like a hobby for them. I mean Ron Burkle who owns the Pens shits out in a week what Crosby makes in a year so who do you think will blink first? The Kings owner doesn't even live in the state of California and I bet you he couldn't name more than 5-6 players!NeverSurrender wrote:They must still be sweating that Tampa Calgary finals.
On top of that Fehr isn't a hockey guy so he probably gives 2 shits if there is a season or not as he's more concerned about how he comes off as a tough negotiator for the next sport he'll fuck up!

Plus hockey sucks compared to the Lemieux/Gretzky days. The peak was about from 85-95. Highest scoring, best players, AND best fighters!
Hockey royally sucks compared to those halcyon days!
