I don't care how much everyone hates this movie... I love it.
Hayden Christensen can go all evil on me anytime.. :D
I watched it again a few weeks back after not seeing it in forever. I must say, It gets a lot of unnecessary hate. Very good movie and it totally made up for Episode I and II.
It's fucking terrible just like the first two.

The only reason people have convinced themselves it isn't awful is because the Nostalgia Gene kicks in hardcore when you see the Death Star and Darth Vader. 5 minutes of that nostalgia opiate isn't enough to cleanse the body of the poison that was the preceding 2:15.

It's an awful, awful movie and humanity will have to answer one day for its success.

Christine (1983) - 8/10. Still love this movie.

Dracula (1979) - 5/10

Angel Heart (1987) -7.5/10. WTF was he thinking with all his plastic surgery?

And not a movie, but I did just watch the full Season 7 of Curb Your Enthusiasm - 9.5/10

Iron Sky - 7/10. Very entertaining and really well made for a low-budget.

Pirates of Silicon Valley - 9/10. Actors didn't LOOK exactly like Jobs and Gates, but the film told a great and captivating story. I'd forgotten (or never knew) what a real shitty human being Steve Jobs was. XEROX gets the Loser of the Millenium award for letting the Apple/Windows-style GUI and the Mouse trackball slip through their fingers after they invented them.

Silent Night 1 out of 10 stars

This remake was horrible. At least the original was original and somewhat controversial, this really didn't break any new ground.

I'll give it a 1 because at least they tried, but failed.
I dozed off once and missed the middle to climax of the film, so I rewound only to discover I missed nothing.

Jamie King spent the entire movie fully clothed, so that's automatically points off in this type of setting. I also think the ending was supposed to surprise people, but it just left me dumbfounded.

I really feel bad for Malcom Mcdowell, a badass actor in his day now reduced to bad Donald Plesance-like impersonations.

It wasn't that good, but I liked it better than friggin' Cabin in the Woods (aka Last Action Hero of Horror) and this other really, really terrible horror movie that I can't even remember the name of that I reviewed recently....
At least those two sucked harder, but this wasn't much better.

...that's right, the Apparition.

That was the last forgettable horror movie I rented before Silent Night.

Both sucked, but Silent Night tried harder, so I've that 1 full star out of 10.
The Suck-a-rition gets 0.5.
And Cabin in the Woods was the worst movie I saw at the movies.

Arbitrage - Better than I expected
Argo - Pleasantly surprised

The Sum of All Fears. 6/10

Yes, I finally watched this old flick.
Would have been better with someone besides Affleck... I just can't like him.
Has to get above a 5 for Morgan Freeman alone.

OK.. not to start this up again... but I must disagree.

I was SO looking forward to Ep I... So excited over Qui Gon, the rebellious, scruffy looking Jedi with poor personal hygiene. The one said to have had "inappropriate relations" with another Jedi.... and what did I get?
Liam Neeson playing him as a soft-spoken, rational thinking guy who doesn't look scruffy at all, much less smelly.

And long... so long... and pod racing... and Darth Maul was like a mini Sith who gets defeated by a Padawan... ??? *ugh*
It was def the worst of the three.

Well, I saw two movies this week that are fantastic. First up was "Silver Linings Playbook," which I think is one of my top picks of the year. On the one hand, it's this very dramatic, tough look at one man's mental breakdown and the toll it takes on the parents he's returned to live with, but on the other, it's a sort of this blunt, awkwardly humorous romantic story, all bookended by a comical look at sports fanaticism. I think it's got a perfect blend of drama and comedy. It's well-written and directed, and every cast member really does amazing work. It's great to see Chris Tucker onscreen again, as he gives this really wonderful, low-key performance which suggests a really interesting direction for his career.

The second movie I saw, just last night, was "Amour," the new one from Michael Haneke. Haneke's not exactly known for tenderness, but in this movie, he takes a very sweet, but unflinching look at an elderly couple coping with a wife's stroke. It was a hard movie for me to watch, because both of my grandmothers had strokes, and it really took me right back to those scary periods, but it's incredibly accurate as far as detailing the uncertainty of the situation as it progresses. The chemistry between the two leads (Jean-Louis Trintignant and Emmanuelle Riva) is such that I felt like I was observing a real married couple, not a fictional one. As I said, it's a tough movie to watch, but it's very powerful.

I thought it was strange from the beginning... but when the guy pulled the stick out his ass... it went to BEYOND.

Gotta hand it to this flick... I didn't predict ANYTHING correctly with this one.

A Kiss Before Dying - 7/10. Joanne Woodward.

Robert Wagner is Bud Corliss, a darkly handsome college boy so obsessed with wealth that he'll do anything to get it. When his rich girlfriend Dorothy (Woodward) gets pregnant and is threatened with disinheritance, Bud stages her suicide, sending her plummeting from the roof of a high-rise. It's the perfect crime until Dorothy's sister Ellen begins to unravel Bud's deadly scheme.

I had a free rental and thought maybe I was being less than fair for condemning this movie without seeing it first.
It sucked.

The Hobbit was great. Rarely does a film top a novel. But what Peter Jackson has been able to do with J.R.R. Tolkien's work is beyond amazing. I remember reading all of the LoTR books back in Jr. High. They were very good but at times seemed excessive and tedious. Peter Jackson's film versions take those same excesses and turn them into opportunities to make you feel as if you are indeed in Middle Earth! And the CGI, again, usually not my favorite thing. But Gollum, man, his eyes...it's like he really has a soul. I can't wait to see this film again before it leaves theatres and eagerly await the follow up.
