M's trade Jason Vargas to the Angels for Kendry Morales.

I guess this means their gonna hold on to Bourjos. I was thinking Vargas was trade-bait when they moved in the fences at Safeco, since he benifitted heavily from the massive OF in Seattle. He's still a solid #3 or 4 pitcher that just made Anaheim a hell of a lot scarier.

I'm kinda ambivalent about this. It's good in that it fills a need for both teams but I think Morales is gonna have a big year next year. I understand that Morales wasn't in the long-term plans for the Angels so this makes sense in many ways. Plus, an outfield of Trout-Bourjos-Hamilton is gonna be great for the pitchers. I'm just worried about how many HRs Vargas gives up. It looks like we got Ervin Santana for less money. Oh well, the Angels needed pitching.

Hogwash ( I've never used that word before 8) ). Angels Stadium ranked #27 out of 30 for HRs in 2012 at 0.759 ( #30 was Safeco pre-moving in the fences ). It's not like they sent him to Wrigley, Fenway, MFY Stadium, etc. With that OF defense behind him too his confidence should sky-rocket, possibly in the same sense as pitching behind King Felix.

His differential in his home/road splits HR/9 is 1.15, it would be higher in Seattle next year. His home/road xFIP has a 1.04% differential, again that's not too alarming of a difference. Remember Z only does trades that benefit both teams and I was a fan of Vargas. He's not a healthy Pineda but from where he slots into LAA's rotation, he's pretty fucking good to have. Y'all should end up loving the guy. "Viva La Vargas" was his moniker im Seattle.

The Rays take a chance on Fausto Carmona......I mean Roberto Hernandez, 1 year $3.25 mil. A typical Ray signing, with the potential of a good upside. Dude was pretty good when he came into the league, but last year I think he was pretty fucked up with the whole identity drama and then the busted ankle. They say he'll compete for a starting position but the bullpen isn't out of the question. If he still has fire, I'd like to see him work an inning or two in relief.

Oh by the way, there was a great article on the ESPN app, and online http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/87596 ... -hall-fame about the potential inductees into the hall. Funny read and after absorbing it, I might vote David Wells in if I had the chance.
"David Wells: Boomer was kind of Jamie Moyer's fat, drunk, rude twin. He won almost as many games in his 40s (48) as he did in his 20s (51). He won more games (237) than Whitey Ford or Pedro Martinez. He twice was the starting pitcher in an All-Star Game and also twice started Game 1 of the World Series. He pitched in the postseason with the Blue Jays, Orioles, Reds, Padres, Red Sox and Yankees, going 10-5 with a 3.17 ERA. He tried pitching a game while wearing Babe Ruth's old cap, pitched a perfect game while half-drunk and hung over, missed games due to gout, went on the disabled list after tripping over a barstool and claimed he was misquoted in his own autobiography. I'm tempted to vote for him, just to hear his acceptance speech."

I hope you're right, I'm just tempering my enthusiasm a bit. We really needed another starting pitcher and this fills the need quite well.

It fills it unbeliveabley well. For a SP you weren't going to get Verlander, you also didn't get Ryan fucking Dempster.

It's a nice "problem" to have.

The Hall Of Fame is now the Hall Of The Very Good. They should enshrine Wells and make it the Hall Of The Better Than Average.

If I was Boston, I would try to trade some grade A prospects for Andrew Bailey.

I can't wrap my head around that. They got rid of Theo's idiot signings ( except Lackey ). It's like 2005 all over again, a remarkabley average Cubs pitcher? Sign him.

The Epstein suck remains.
You're going to hate him. He was awesome. In 2008.
He's like the Liberace of bass & pot.

I knew Lackey wasn't gonna re-sign with the Angels but I admit I was a bit pissed that he signed with the Sox. But then...yeah.

The Mike Napoli deal is being held up by a hip issue.
Sox are trying to rework the deal but there is a good chance it will fall apart.

I don't get that one. There's an almost guaranteed to vest 5th year option, pushing the deal to 70m in the long run. I also believe that he could have ( was offered more ) to sign with a better team. His reported preferences were on of the LA teams ( his wife is Joanna Garcia ).

Even with both of them out along with NY, he had enough interest to sign with a team that has a chance to make the playoffs in the next few years. Maybe it's cause he went to Ohio State.

Cleveland seems like a last choice option. :?

I know Seattle for sure. Z pulled out when Swisher didn't visit after Cleveland. Plus
reports from Boston. After Epstein dishing out 10/100m contracts like beer at a barbeque, Gentle Ben has seemed reluctant to commit a lot of years in his dealings.

They were in though and both are realistically a better chance to be a more competitive team moving forward. Even if the Indians are in a tremendously weak division.

Red Sox are reported to be in talks with Adam LaRoche which would mean the Mike Napoli deal will soon or has already fallen apart.
It could also mean they are pushing Napoli to redo the deal because they would have to give up compensation to sign LaRoche which is something they don't want to do in their current situation.

And Texas got AJ so I wonder where Napoli ends up. His hip is a well known issue for a lot of teams ( ie. Seattle ).
