Did the Irish realize the game was being played last night and not some other

Admittedly I'm not a big US College Football follower, but if one team is a 10 point favorite over the other in the BCS Champioship Game, isn't there, perhaps, a better matchup out there?

Full marks to Alabama, but have a hard time believing Notre Dame was the best opponent for them, given their record. That game was over in the first quarter!

Give their record? ND was undefeated going into the game.
Another undefeated team(Ohio State) was not eligible to play in the BCS game due to sanctions against that particular school.

The question is: Was ND that bad or is Bama that good???

Bama has now won 3 out of the last 4 BCS titles. I think they are that good and the only team that might have given them a game for
4 quarters is Texas A&M w/Johnny Football

I guess my question is: Was Notre Dame a legitimate undefeated team/BCS Championship contender, or was their undefeated season due to a weaker schedule than teams with losses playing tougher opponents?

IMO, ND was legit. They defeated 3 teams that finished in the
top 20/top 25.

Two of those victories were on the road.

Notre Dame was good, but realistically, regardless of what rank some of their beaten teams were, 3 games stand out as far as to just how "weak" they really were: Brigam Young...ND beat them by 3 points, Standford...ND got them in OT by 7 with some controversy, and Pitt in 3 OT`s and by 3 points. Of those 3 games, only Standford was ranked at that time(17th).

No way in hell Notre Dame should have needed 3 over times to be Pitt...that game in general was just plain fucking ugly on both sides of the ball, and if not for a jacked field goal, ND would have been exposed then. Brigam Young, do we even need to discuss that game?

Notre Dame was totally over matched in every aspect of the game except fr maybe pass-protection, and even there it was more even as opposed to lopsided. Everyone who talked up ND defense should have to write a 5 page report as to what a real defense looked like...Alabama showed it almost to perfection.

I truly thought ND would be within 3 points of Bama...not so much because I thought they were of the same caliber, but because I expected Saban to play "safe" football up until the half. I also expected the Heisman runner up to be more effective...I looked for Manti Teo to get into Bamas backfield and disrupt McCarron...it didnt happen. Hell, did Teo even get into the backfield more than 3 times the entire game?

I do hope to see Notre Dame back for some more good games next year...they arent losing too many starters...

Brian Kelley summed up Notre Dames wake up last night at the half quite well, "maybe Alabama doesn't come back in the second half?, it's ALL Alabama..."

Notre Dame certainly played like they were high.

BYU has a top 5 defense, won their bowl game and ND had their backup QB in. Notre Dame belonged in the game because the system dictates it. It's not their fault they won all their games and deserved to be in it.

I also don't believe ND is as bad as they played in that game. The coach might be as bad as he coached in that game, but not the team. They had no faith in him or his shitty game plan and it showed. He was scared and his game plan showed he was scared. He set that program back at least 5 years with that shameful coaching job. I lost a lot of respect for coach Kelly in that game.

I never said ND didnt deserve to be where they were. They did, most certainly, they went 12-0 and received the votes...as the system in place dictates. But, arent you the same guy who was whining about the over-rated SEC...the same SEC who was voted into the same championship game? Get the fuck out of here...again, you cant have it both ways. If the system "worked" for ND and you have no problem with it, then shut the hell up about the SEC...

Was BYU`s defense Top 5 in the FBS ? Cause if was where it mattered, then BYU wouldnt have ended the season non-ranked... Again, BYU was barely beaten, regardless of the back-up QB...who by the way was a Senior this year, who lost his spot to a freshman...ecuses are wasted here. What about Pitt? Care to expound on why ND had to go to 3 OT periods to beat what should have been an easy opponent? Yeah, it would be a blast to hear this one explained...

I too do not believe ND is or were as bad a team as what they played. But, I also never believed they were what all the hype said they were. 3 very distinct games showed that ND was in reality a paper-mâché team...Alabama came in totally exposed every weakness in their system, all the way straight to the Head Coach, Offensive and Defensive Coordinators and Special Teams Coaches...hell, even the fucking waterboys looked out of breath on the sidelines.... Coach Kelley will take a ton of flack for this loss, as well as the stupid-assed comments he made at the half. I would be willing to bet there are some seriously pissed off alumni, current students, boosters, parents, staff, players and parents out there...that was demoralizing as hell for your head coach to put out there on the grandest stage for all of the world to see...bad fucking showmanship...

Hell, it was so bad, the Pope called in and said he was converting to Southern Baptist and moving to Tuscaloosa....

Pretty obvious that no one was beating Alabama with the way they played but the only other team that would have had a chance would have been one of the other SEC schools. People are throwing what if's on Ohio State on talk shows etc. but they were every bit the pretender that Notre Dame was and would have got brutally whacked as well. At least 5 other SEC schools would have pounded Notre Dame as well. Even a school like Vanderbilt with the way they progressed and were playing at the end look better than ND does to me.

Don't think I can remember a championship game like that where the talent gap was so large. Usually in blowouts like that, you see one team making a lot of turnovers etc. They just didn't belong on the field with bama.

The only way the SEC doesn't continue to dominate is if they knock each other out. As we see with ND, it's a whole lot easier to get to the end other places than the SEC. When the 4 team playoff starts, the risk of some team like Oregon getting there in that weak ass conference will be less and the SEC will continue to blow through the games. Unreal dominance.

It's KELLY.

And yep, there are plenty of pissed off people at ND. I stuck up for the guy when half the fanbase was dogging him the first two years. THE WORST COACHING PERFORMANCE I'VE EVER SEEN ON A BIG STAGE, AND NOT EVEN CLOSE.

and what are you talking about having it both ways? I never dogged Bama or Lsu for being in the title game. It's college football's fault, not the team itself. Just like this time.

I'd say Les Miles from last year (and possibly the Chick Fil A bowl this year) is fairly close.

Les Myles makes stupid decisions but his team is always prepared. But he is like Kelly. Trying to look for other jobs all the time.

If Kelley bolts for the NFL, he is making a huge mistake IMO. He has had success every where he has been a head coach on the college side. He really has reached somewhat of a pinnacle by bringing ND back into the spotlight. To leave right now and go to a fucked-up NFL team sounds like a good idea, but I think staying successful at ND for a few more years will actually get him better offers down the road...

Nick Saban is a prime example of what can happen to a great college coach who takes on a not-so-great NFL team...and look where he is now. Back to the college ranks, holding 4 National Championship trophies, making a cool $5mil a year, more than probably %75 of NFL coaches make yearly. He has also set himself up nicely to take over the AD job from Mal Moore if and when that decrepit old bastard ever decides to retire...
