Quote:
Slap Shots has learned the NHL recently informed the NHLPA the projected hockey-related revenue (HRR) for this truncated season will reach $2.4 billion, a staggering number with implications far beyond the obvious that the league essentially suffered no damage by locking out the players for more than three months.
Remember: HRR for 2011-12 hit a record $3.3 billion. That was for a 1,230-game regular-season, plus playoffs, preseason and special events — including the Winter Classic and All-Star festivities.
This $2.4 billion projection is for a 720-game regular season plus the playoffs. Thus, the NHL expects to generate 72.7 percent of last year’s revenue in 58.5 percent of the season — and without the benefits reaped from the money-printing outdoor game.
...
Attendance and percentage of capacity are up dramatically, essentially across the board. Television ratings, both locally and nationally, are healthier than ever on almost a case-by-case basis. Fewer games have created more importance, and thus more focused attention, on each one.
The lesson here for the NHL (and NHLPA) is reducing the schedule to 70 games in a season that begins in the final week of October — it would be important to get a jump on the NBA — very well could and almost certainly would not only produce better hockey but generate more interest and thus more revenue.

Fuck the fucking Jets and fuck Evander Kane. Somehow I ended up being his friend on Facebook, dude all this guy does is complain about WInnipeg. Anyway, moving on.
I'm scared I jinxed this by accidentally washing my Hawks socks yesterday. People are really superstitious up here and its freaking me out. I went to the home opener (holy SHIT by the way, I have never seen anything like that. EVERY SINGLE seat was filled, and they were all there to watch the game! I never imagined in my wildest dreams anything like that.)
And I bought the socks there, and I wear them to every game watch. I haven't washed them yet. They somehow got mixed into my darks yesterday. Have I screwed this up for us?

Isles beat the Habs again, and this time they deserved it.
2 points out of 8th in the east and have the 4th most goals in the East. Big game against the Rags Thursday night.

Re: The official NHL thread

This was talked about on sports radio yesterday and while I don't remember the exact numbers, here is what was said:
This season, Canadians rank #1 in penalties drawn, Bruins were like 27th.
Last 5 years or so the Bruins ranked no higher than 25th which goes against anyone who says they embelish or get all the calls.
Is this the same makaveli that posts here?

The whole getting at least a point in every game has overshadowed the 10 wins in a row, which in itself is incredible.Lardbucket wrote:Apparently not!Anne_Thrax wrote:Fuck the fucking Jets and fuck Evander Kane. Not bad rebuilding after just winning the Stanley Cup a few years ago.

Marchand used to do it quite often and the coaches and teammates would give him all kinds of shit to stop. Not saying he still doesn't once in a while, but it is WAY less than he used to. Claude will call out his own players just as easily as another teams players.Kid-Wicked wrote:a buddy of mine(who's an oilers fan) posted it on facebook.Facedown wrote:Nice try.

The lesson here for the NHL (and NHLPA) is reducing the schedule to 70 games in a season that begins in the final week of October — it would be important to get a jump on the NBA — very well could and almost certainly would not only produce better hockey but generate more interest and thus more revenue.
They always generated a big percentage of their revenue in the weeks in between the Super bowl and baseball. This is nothing new really.
