Re: The Never Ending MMA thread
Let's see-
I didn't see the event live. I watched the Stann/Silva & Hunt/Struve fights later.
Stann can't hold his own against a wrestler (got mauled by Sonnen) & can't hold his own against a striker like Silva. Gate keeper anyone? I will say they were throwing some serious bombs in that first round. Stann is lucky he has his commentator gig going to keep him employed.
Give Hunt a ton of credit. What the hell was Struve's game plan? He was having zero luck on his submission attempts. He wasn't even close.
Did you see that look on his face when he got knocked down & out? Jeez!
Read he got his jaw broken. Who does Hunt fight next?
The other fights? Didn't give a rat's ass.

Re: The Never Ending MMA thread
The fights were pretty boring other than the main and Co-Main. Gomi got robbed, Okami won a fight where he lost the last round, and Kim controlled Siyar on the ground the whole time. The main event was fight of the year worthy, that first round has to be one of the most violent I've ever seen, that shit was an all out brawl. Hunt surprised the fuck out of me with his sub defence. I think he could realistically beat anyone not named Cain Velasquez (who would wrestlefuck the shit out of him), Werdum, or Mir (who would probably Sub him). Who would've thought after Hunt lost to McCorkle and had a 6-7 record that he would win 4 straight and actually have a somewhat respectable record of 10-7 and be 1 or 2 fights away from a title shot. His striking has always been there because of his Kickboxing background, but his ground game seems to have caught up a bit as well. And he knocked him out after he was supergassed. Those last 2 fights were damn good.

Re: The Never Ending MMA thread
You are so right about the violence of that first round. I've been a fan of mma/ufc for about 3 or so years & I've never seen two guys go at it like that. The look on their faces is something I will never forget. Will also remember Silva after winning the fight. It was almost like he was laughing.slash4pres wrote:The fights were pretty boring other than the main and Co-Main. And I agree with you that Hunt can beat any heavy weight except for Velasquez.

Re: The Never Ending MMA thread
The okami-Lombard fight was good, Okami was able to keep lombard at bay standing and take him to the ground for 2 rounds, but Lombard was more dominant in the third. The scoring criteria should be more reflective of what happens in a fight, I would give two 10-9 rounds for okami and one 10-8 round for lombard.
The Hunt fight was hilarious, he walked away after the ko, Herb Dean wasn't sure the fight should be stopped, so Hunt comes back for the mandatory 3-4 finishing shots and Herb was like "naah I guess you're right Mark, fight's over leave him alone".
I thought Wanderlei was gonna get knocked out, I didn't even wanted to see the fight but man how great was it to watch the axe murderer brawling in Japan again?
If his chin wasn't so shot his fight with leben would have been a three round bar brawl.

Anderson Silva vs Chris Weidman confirmed for 4th of July Weekend. Interesting, Weidman may have the wrestling ability to finish what Chael was trying to do in their 1st fight.

That should be a good one. Weidman hasn't fought since he got injured right?

Nope, which may be a mistake trying to fight the greatest fighter ever after being injured.

I was thinking the same thing.slash4pres wrote:Nope, which may be a mistake trying to fight the greatest fighter ever after being injured.
I watched the Munoz fight again & he completely mauled Munoz. The elbow that knocked Munoz out was a highlight reel elbow.
His wrestling is something else because its so methodical. Should be interesting to see how Silva handles it.

Also Thiago Silva vs. Feijao set for ufc 162, which I think is the same card. Methinks Feijao will make an impressive debut.

Alistair is injured and out of 160, and yet again my dream heavyweight matchup falls through the cracks

Re: The Never Ending MMA thread
And Dana is determined to make a JDS/Alistair fight. Won't let Junior fight Hunt. Sounds like Junior will be waiting until Alistair is up and running again.slash4pres wrote:Alistair is injured and out of 160, and yet again my dream heavyweight matchup falls through the cracks
Is Frank Mir trying to make Lesnar come out retirement? He's talking shit about the guy. Why else would he be doing it?

While I would definitely love to see a Hunt/JDS fight, I actually would be more excited to see Big Country, so I don't mind if they just postpone JDS/Reem. Two fat guys with huge guts that hit like trucks.
and I like that Mir was saying getting hit my Lesnar is like being hit by your sister; I guess that means you got steamrolled by your sister.

I always laugh when I see that look on Mir's face after the second fight when Lesnar finishes him & goes up to him & says a word or two to him.slash4pres wrote:While I would definitely love to see a Hunt/JDS fight, I actually would be more excited to see Big Country, so I don't mind if they just postpone JDS/Reem. Re: The Never Ending MMA thread
My picks for next Saturday
Diaz Sub (in my dreams, but probably GSP decision)
Condit decision, i expect this one to be fireworks, similar to Ellenburger/Condit
Marquardt tko, probably in the third
and I couldn't give a single fuck about the other fights

No way Diaz wins this one. None. Not even if it goes to judges.

I hope Hendricks continues his one punch & out fighting.
Was a great card until McDonald got hurt. Now, not so much.

Re: The Never Ending MMA thread
You all really shouldn't doubt Nick, he's definitely a top 5 welterweight and can capitalize if GSP makes a mistake. GSP's never fought a southpaw, nor has he fought someone with more reach than him, nor has he ever fought this angry. Not to mention he hasn't fought someone who can attack off of the back like Diaz does, so I'd say it's like a 70/30 chance of GSP winning, maybe 75/25.

That will be something else huh? Turn the mma world upside down!
If he does win can you imagine what he will say in the after fight interview
with Rogan. Or the press conference? That should be some fun.

Diaz is a whiny bitch. Whenever he gets frustrated he starts taunting instead of continuing to go after his opponent. I hate that shit.
I think GSP's last fight should have answered a lot of questions about him. That fight was five solid rounds and it wasn't the usual GSP winning by scoring points. He engaged and went after Condit continuously and they beat each other up. GSP showed he can fight in a different style. He's gonna beat Diaz, without a doubt. Then old sourpuss can start down the Forrest Griffin path.

GSP is the most boring-ass wrestle-fucker ever. But hopefully he'll go toe to toe with Diaz AND fucking destroy him. Both Diaz brothers are pieces of shit.

Just watched the UFC press conference... Wow that was fun. Diaz once again refusing to take responsibility for where he is at career wise. Gsp getting frustrated... Can't wait for saturday

Watched it.EddieVanHeineken wrote:Just watched the UFC press conference... Wow that was fun. Diaz once again refusing to take responsibility for where he is at career wise. Gsp getting frustrated... Can't wait for saturday
They should just call it the Nick Diaz press conference. Hendricks got one question, Condit none, & the other fighters zero. GSP got one but I think it was a piggy back to a Diaz question. It was funny how GSP just sat there the entire time until something Nick said set him off & he didn't make a lick of sense.
Nick looks bigger than GSP & GSP looked strange during the photo shoot at the end. Either he was done with the whole thing or a bit intimidated by Nick. Although I doubt he is intimidated in any way.
I hope Nick wins because that will set the UFC in a whirl wind, and because GSP is a boring fighter.
Did you watch the Dana White scrum video? Where he stands there for at least an hour & answers every question thrown his way. He loses his cool every so often but I'm impressed he hangs in there the entire time.

Re: The Never Ending MMA thread
Yeah watched that too. He gets so pissed at all the testing questions they ask him at each of those scrums. He thinks he's doing more than he has to, but then Kevin iole and Ariel keep hammering him about the Olympic style testing. They are right though in that if he is only testing those fighters asking for the tue, others will use it and just titrate down before the fight.

It's funny cause he used to be exciting, ever since he got the title back I can't stand to watch more than a couple rounds.yeahbuddy wrote: GSP is a boring fighter.
Jones and Aldo are somewhat the same, used to love to watch them fighting but nowadays they just seem to worry about not losing the belt. Understandable but makes up for fairly boring matches.

Re: The Never Ending MMA thread
GSP is a machine. There is no personality or emotion to what he does. That's why I laughed watching the press conference & he finally got emotional. The guy couldn't phrase a sentence. Not one writer for mma has wrote fight will go any other way than what GSP always does.
My favorite Jon Jones moment was in between the 1st & 2nd rd of the Machida fight. He had this look on his face like "oh shit". I think it was the first time he had ever been tested. Other than that, I just don't like the guy.
Anderson Silva is so far above the other champs it isn't funny. What he did in the first Sonnen fight was crazy. And when he finishes a guy, he finishes big time. He understands the entertainment factor of the ufc.
How do you guys think the Condit/Hendricks fight is going to go?
Oh yeah, during press conference Nick Diaz made a great point. He said if a fighter is going to do nothing but wrestle, the rounds should be 10 minutes long. I'm in favor of that.
