Got a Zoom G5. I'll post my thoughts after I get a chance to rehearse on it Sunday.

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
So, the G5 was pretty decent. I did 3 rehearsals with it yesterday. One Rammstein covers, one Marilyn Manson covers and one 'sixties soul.
I used it as a "complete solution" sort of thing, using the amp models for my preamp, plugging directly into the power amp section of a 5150 through the effects loop return. This allows me to change an entire song with one button, going from a heavy sound with no fx to a clean with chorus and verb instantly.
First thoughts:
The distorted amp sounds aren't bad. I need to work with them a bit...they still have that weird "scrunchy" sound that every modeller ever has, and react a bit differently than a normal amp, with weird bands of frequency feeding back and such...but they do heavy and chunky well.
It helps that both bands I am covering with distorted amps record guitars that are heavily processed and inorganic sounding.
The cleanish Fender combo model I used for the soul band wasn't bad, either...
The effects themselves are really, really good, with a lot of weird options you might not normally consider and a few cool noisemakers that will probably become part of my erryday life.
The full-range filter pedal will probably become my go-to wah.
The fuzz boxes (Fuzz Face and Muff) have too much low, making the guitar moo, and I'll probably have to run them with an eq.
So far the thing I dislike most is the switching...I mean, it works well, but they use the same switches for multiple functions, like, you hit the two on the right, and it cycles through the pedals in that direction...this becomes a problem if you have two effects on and want to turn them both off at once, as the pedal then thinks you are trying to scroll to the left or right
...also, one of the switches is "hold for tuner", and I found out last night that I leave my foot on a pedal when I hit it sometimes...so I go to do a lead, hit the distortion box, leave my foot there, and boom. No signal. Tuner mute.

I bought a epiphone sheraton off Craigslist for dirt cheap. I've already used the "cheat" method and put some gfs mean 90's in it. How important would actually changing out all the wiring and upgrading pots etc.?

Been stirring the idea of peddling the SVK Tele Thinline/Deluxe, an Epi 335 sounds good....the GFS Professional KMZ's are pretty damned teets(a friend put a set in his GT build, they have the vintage mojo down pretty good), those with some braided wire and CTS's with PIO's and a Tusq nut should be good.
Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
El Toro, thanks for the response...what do you recommend as far as caps and pots? P90s make a difference in choices?

Hey, I have a guitar/bass question that I haven't been able to get an answer on. During the Them Crooked Vultures tour JPJ was using a bass (?) that had like a computer screen where the pickups normally are and then on a recent Paladia promo some guitarist had about the same instrument. Anyone know what it is?

Anyone try wiring a humbucker straight to the output jack before? What humbucker did you use, and did you have good results?

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
Imma getting rid of the Zoom G5.
The effects were great, but the basic amp sounds have all of the standard modelling problems. (Weird frequencies jump out and feed back, "schunchy" sound, never sounds rich and full)
SamAsh gives you 30 day to return for cash, and I have until the 5th.
I have already bought its replacement, a Boss GT8.
I've only messed with it a little, but already, it has a more "pro" feel to the effects, even though the interface isn't as attractive, the effects are deeper in their tweakability, and have the usual BOSS quality. (Which is good, fuckers.)
The MAIN thing though, is if I don't like the sound of the amp models on this, then I can run it with what they call the 4 cable method, where you isolate your amp's preamp as essentially one of the amp models and can put it at any point in the effects chain.
...which is cool, because you can run your *real* amp sound, with effects both before and after the preamp.
The GT8 also has an amp control jack, which you can switch on of off as a parameter in your patches, that CHANGES THE CHANNEL ON YOUR AMP...so no tap dancing hitting an effect then over to the amp switch for clean/dirty.
I got it for $175, which is cheaper than they go on Ebay, so I can't really lose. If I hate it, I'll flip it and maybe make a little gas money as well
We'll see how this goes after I make this thing my bitch in a week or so

I'm hoping to get my amp back this week from a pump up.. changing some values for a tighter bottom end.

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
I just got my Mesa Mark 2 back from my tech. New caps and also a tone mod. Holy crap it sounds great now. The thing about those early Mark 2s is that the lead and clean channels sound different tonally unless you get it modded. Lead channel sounds dark and gets muddy when stock. Now, it's like a totally different amp. Lead and clean channels are nice and equal with regard to frequency response. I'm a happy fucker now

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
Did my second gig with the GT-8 last night...first gig was all Rammstein, last night's all Manson.
Setup was guitar>GT8>power amp in/FX return on 5150>4x12 GK cab, 4x10 generic cab.
Fucking thing is great. Does what it is supposed to. Versatile, sounds good, simple setup, I really like it.
If any of y'all are looking for a multieffects box, I'd actually suggest it. They are only available used and go around $200.
...much better than the new Digitech and Zoom boxes I had tried. (I had the Zoom for 3 weeks before taking back because the amp sounds were naff.)

Re: El Toro's Official Guitarded Thread...
Had an SG project fall into my lap(freebie from someone who lost interest).
Routed for a single bridge humbucker, wraptail bridge...single volume and tone controls.
Mahogany body/maple bolt-neck(which I prefer on an SG anyhow....stronger joint that a traditional set-neck). Considered a Pigtail/Badass-type bridge replacement, but think I'm going to pull the bushings, dowel and re-drill for a tune-o-matic/stop setup.
Has a fullsize pickguard to go with it, not cut for pups just yet....the Duncan P-rails are an intriguing idea(pretty versatile), but could be a clusterfuck to wire up.
Thought of doing a Silverburst paintjob, but a dark cherry just looks RIGHT on these things....
