Smashed - 9/10
This was the first time for me going to the movies in I don't even know how many years, because they showed this one in original English without subtitles for one week just now, which is rare, and it was so worth it.
I'm generally a sucker for alki movies, but this one was almost perfectly balanced between being realistic and originally entertaining, in a way I can only compare it to Factotum. I laughed out loud like twenty times and secretly cried at least twice.
The lead actress is fucking awesome, and her husband was meth guy from Breaking Bad. Fucking great acting. Finally people who don't overact being drunk. Quirky old mustached republican guy from Parks and Recreation has an awesome role as well.
Go watch that shit if it's still playing wherever you are. I might actually buy a DVD of this next time I'm shitfaced. Best movie in years.

Saw an advance screening of Star Trek: Into Darkness tonight. 10/10.
Just about perfect. JJ Abrams gets that Star Trek needs to be full-throttle action, but makes sure to include the relationship elements, the humor and a lot of nods to classic ST. It's the rare sequel that lives up to the original.

Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close - 6/10
This wasn't about Sandra Bullock finding true, improbable love in a cute, quirky manner at all. I'm appalled she has to accept such shitty side roles these days.

Star Trek Into Darkness. 7/10. It's like watching Wrath of Khan again, with updated shit. I don't like Star Trek at all, so the 7 is because it was well done.

The Little Girl Who Lived Down the Lane - 1976 5/10
I was a HUGE fan of Jodie Foster when I was a kid. Wanted to see this movie so bad when I was young.
What a disappointment. It's just way creepy seeing a 13 year old girl get naked.

L'âge des ténèbres (The Age of Ignorance) - 6/10. Could have been great if it had been more depressing, but the comic fantasy relief kind of ruined the whole thing. Diane Krüger speaks fucking awesome French, by the way. And even her English sounds less German than mine at times. Bitch. Anyway, Emma de Caunes is hotter in this. So there.

I remember seeing this movie on the Movie Channel back when it was called Star Channel. Haven't seen it since, what? 1981-82?Caustic Queen wrote:The Little Girl Who Lived Down the Lane - 1976 5/10

But I still remember certain parts, like Martin Sheen playing the creep. Him smoking a cigarette while waiting for the guys to jimmy open his mother's car door... the lady getting her cranium creamed by that trap door.... and Jodie Foster's characters tale of making her mother's homemade biscuits.... "They're very good."
I'll have to catch that again next time its on, if it ever is on.

Interesting storylines, good acting, but only one satisfying end to a storyline out of three.

Texas Chainsaw 3D (2013): 6/10
As possibly the biggest fan of bad slasher flicks ever, I should have loved this, but there were moments where even I was unable to suspend disbelief.
