looks like Avs new coach Patty Roy is entertaining the idea of trading the #1 pick in this years draft now..ya gotta wonder if it bullshit or they'd really do it?...Jones is a stud D man, was the obvious #1 choice, until Halifax won the memorial cup the other night, now with Mackinnon scoring a hat-trick in the final game, is he going #1? Drouin?

Keep in mind,Mackinnon and Jones were virtually tied for the #1 spot until 2 events; The World Juniors and The Prospects Game.Jones played extremely well and helped the USA win Gold while Mackinnon was stuck on the 4th line(little ice time) of an underperforming Canadian squad topped off with NHL'ers due to the lockout. Jones also shined at the Prospects Game while Mackinnon was playing with an injury and did not have a good game.

The Memorial Cup was a true test for Mackinnon as he had equal footing(lots of ice time,no injury) for the 1st time. The results spoke for themselves. Not to mention,he absolutely SCHOOLED Jones on a goal in the round robin.

Having said all of that,Jones' dad played for the NBA's Nuggets and it was Roy/Sakic/Forsberg that got him hooked on hockey in the 1st place,so it's not out of the realm of possibility that they keep the pick and use it on Jones.

If the Av's were entertaining thoughts of trading the pick, they would have lots of suitors, as quite a few teams will be looking to unload high salaried players in order to fit under the new lower cap.

oh ya, all kinds of suitors..I wonder if they'd take the #7 pick/Horcoff/Hemsky plus next years #1 from the Oil for it??...No?...I didn't think so either...

^ Um,no,that wasn't exactly the scenario I was going for. :D

I was thinking more along the lines of Evegeni Malkin. Both he and Letang will be UFA's after next season, and with a lower cap,as well as having to re-up Dupuis this summer, there won't be money for both of them. It would make sense to attempt to get something for him this summer.

Honestly, the Av's would be wise to keep the pick.I know they've struggled the past few seasons at the gate, and are probably hoping for a hot fix solution but any of Jones/MacKinnon/Drouin will be a top ntch player within 3 years.

The talent at the high end of this year's draft is off the charts. I'm sure Roy is just stirring shit up, as he's one to do, to see if he can get a franchise trading offer, but that ain't gonna happen.

Any other market and MacKinnon would probably go first, because he has Crosby-esque skills. He truly showed his meddle at the Memorial Cup. Having said that, Jones is the home town boy, a marketer's dream, and the Avs are probably deeper up front than they are on the back end. Jones may very well become a Chara or a Pronger. He's 6'4 and his dad is 6'8. Jones will fill out AND get bigger. His combination of size and skill are rare in a D-man. He'll likely go first.

Drouin is no slouch either, but he's the clear #3 in all this IMO. If Drouins goes 2 and MacKinnon 3 it will be like when Pat Lafontaine dropped into the Isles laps at #3, many moons ago. What were Minny and Hartford thinking?

Looks like Huberdeau and MacKinnon or Drouin will be teammates next year.

Is this where I say "go Kings go!"

Hoping Detroit pulls it off tommorow. I was a Chicago resident for maybe the only 10 years they never made the playoffs. Fuck em!

I wonder if Jones happens to go #1... Would say Florida try and make a deal to get the #3 pick and take both Mackinnon and Drouin?.. They'd probably have to give up a fair bit.. Gubradsson (sp?) would have to be included.. but having those 2 guys together would be insane!

Honestly, there's not much they could offer without destroying their rebuild and furthermore,Tampa Bay has the 3rd pick. These two franchises aren't exactly civil to each other, there's been a pretty fair rivalry off the ice as well as on,and for that,I just can't see Tampa gift wrapping Drouin to the Panthers.

.....but having watched Huberdeau and MacKinnon and Drouin tear up the Q,it certainly could be an explosive line.

^ The Dolan's didn't like their $60,000,000 sitting in the press box for games 4 and 5 against the Bruins,Sather had no other choice.

Tort's style of play flew in the face of the talent that was assembled around him.Combine that with his arrogance towards the media (Brooksie laughs last)and his inability to get to the Finals and his days were probably numbered anyways, benching Richards just expedited the process.

So when Tort told people to "kiss my ass" recently in the press conference, he just forgot to add the word "goodbye".

I really like the look of Gudbranson so I think a package with him would be too much to give up. Saying that we do have a shit load of prospects. Which makes me think that a deal like that would be even less likely. How about Kuba, Upshall and Strachen instead....
