Speaking of SF in 2010 ( oops ) it seems 2011 is happening all over again. Matt Cain hasn't been able to regain his ace form ( ie. Tim Lincecum ), Romo hasn't exactley been elite, they need another SP but their farm is pretty barren. Also now Angel Pagan is out 10-12 weeks with hamstring surgery. Damn.
If history is any indication 2014 they win it all.

Nevertheless, he does have trouble staying on the field.
How much will Pagan be missed? The guy is a typical role player.
It's not like he can succeed if given over 500 at bats.
Pagan and Torres are similar players.

He had over 600 plate appearances in both 2010 and 2012 and succeeded. An above-average hitter in center field is more valuable than you seem to realize, Mongchado.
There's no question he's shown better ability than Torres (though Torres is more likely to take a walk), even with Torres's 2010 entered into the equation. He's also some years younger.

I've had some laughs at this dude's expense (he put the ball in play what, twice?) but good for him for trying, pocketing a bit of a signing bonus.
Would've been an interesting experiment to see about turning a great athlete into a baseball player (he did show some knowledge of the strike zone) over time, but it wasn't to be. Maybe he'll make it in his better sport (football).

Dodgers want Nolasco:
The Dodgers are "on blitzkrieg" to acquire Ricky Nolasco from the Marlins, tweets Hank Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle. As noted by Schulman, the matchup makes sense. The Dodgers can easily absorb the remaining $6MM or so on Nolasco's contract, and such a deal would prevent division rivals like the Padres and Giants from landing Nolasco.
The Padres, Giants and Rockies have all been connected to Nolasco at various points thus far, so it would be logical for the Dodgers, who also have the most ground to make up in the division, to pursue the 30-year-old.
Nolasco has a 3.68 ERA with 6.9 K/9, 2.2 BB/9, and a 41.6 percent ground-ball rate in 100 1/3 innings this year. He's slated to be a free agent following the season, which makes him a strict rental for the Dodgers, as teams can no longer receive compensatory draft picks for players who were acquired midseason.
Schulman adds that a deal could happen "soon," which meshes with reports from earlier today that the Fish are trying to move Nolasco ASAP.

Aside from his numbers telling a different story and with the exception of Panda and Posey, Boechy has that team set up as role players; not unlike Scosscia's 2002 Angels. The loss of ( coolest fucking name ever ) Angel Pagan is going to severly hurt a team already marred by starting pitching woes.
A defending champion deserves the benefit of the doubt, but seriously I'd start planning for 2014.

Hamstring injuries are a son of a bitch. Very unpredictable.
One would think Pagan did everything correct leading up to that rehab
game.
When will Dr. James Andrews uncover the mystery of the pulled hamstring and subsequent rehab from the injury?

Munenori Kawasaki is, like, the greatest guy ever.
To reporters, after learning he's been sent down to make room for Jose Reyes:
“It’s not as if I’ve died,” he said through a Japanese interpreter following Tuesday’s game. “I’m still a baseball player. It’s just that tomorrow the field will be different. I’m still around and I’m still here to help the team when they need it. And it’s been a terrific experience and I really appreciate everybody — and I love everybody.”

Hawk Harrelson could not hide his frustration after the play.
Loved how they showed the fuck up from several different telecasts...ARE YOU KIDDING ME? YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!
I just happened to watch this play live on MLB Network. Was about to change the channel, but when the ball fell and the score was tied, I had to tune in.
I just knew Hawk was going to come up with a great quote or two about the play and he did not disappoint.
The Mets' TV broadcasts are so fucking good. Too bad about the team.
Speaking of (former) Mets, good to see a nice performance from R.A. today in Tampa. Would like a .GIF of that 7th inning strike three (swinging) to Longoria. Whoo.

Hey:
It might have been talked about but has anyone watched the movie on "showtime?" about knuckleballers? Not only R.A. but all of them had a good story.

Great flick, don't remember the name but R.A seemed to be the center piece. They covered everything from the start to dynamics and interviewed everyone from Wakefield, Niekro to Candiotti and Charlie Hough. Very well done including batters and catchers perspectives.
Bob Uecker, "The way to catch a knuckleball is to wait until it stops rolling and pick it up.
Pete Rose: "I work for three weeks to get my swing down pat and Phil (Niekro) messes it up in one night." "Trying to hit that thing is a miserable way to make a living."
Personally, I've spent a lot of time trying to throw a knuckle and more time trying to catch one.....I've decided I'd have a better chance crossing the ocean in a kayak. It's like catching a dead duck or watching a damaged airplane come into landing. With each pitch I kept asking....Is it going to make it?

Homer Bailey threw his second career no hitter against the SF Giants today. Damn.
I remember I had a Baseball Prospectus 2008 Top Prospect Handbook that had him as like the top 3 prospect overall. Those of y'all waiting for him to become an ace it seems he's well on his way. After his first season I had expected him to flame out.

Had a voucher for a free ticket last night, so we took both of our boys to the game. The atmosphere was electric! It was also a cool thing / chance to tell my older boy (he's 5) about no-hitters, and how hard they are to achieve...

I remember he was highly touted and didn't live up to expectations.
I noticed last night he was touching 95+ with his fastball. I don't remember
him throwing so hard when he first arrived to the big leagues.
Do you?

Yup. I'll double check when I get back to headquarters. I seem to recall his velocity was one of his high points, but it's been overshadowed/forgotten because of Aroldis Chapman.
