Give me the run down on "a player to be named later"?
Never understood it, unless they're waiting for a contract issue or a medical clearance it sounds complicated. Like we'll give you the shittiest player we have give us time to look for him. Or you have a choice of these 5 players let us know who you want.

There's a list with five or six names on it the team trading for the player presents to the other GM. The other GM will choose one of those players at a later date. The list usually contains throw away players that are older that won't sniff the bigs.UtahRatt wrote:Give me the run down on "a player to be named later"?

I felt that way to start the season and still do now, but Atlanta's glaring weakness could be their downfall in October. Their situational hitting is nonexistant. Basically unless one of them hits a HR it's a strikeout.UtahRatt wrote: I feel Atlanta is the team to beat in the NL.
You can win the East when Washington is still shellshocked from last year and Miami is Loria's bitch, but against the best of the best? I think a team more fundamentally sound is going pulverize them. I don't care how wicked their pitching is, your batter's don't lead the NL in strikeouts and expect to not in playoffs.

I think that's cause he's a rookie and a complete showoff. He fucking poses for line drives like Manny Ramirez after a HR. I've tired of his schtick myself. I think the only reason he hasn't caught a fastball in the ear is because he's built like an offensive linemanNeverSurrender wrote:WhiteHouseSubsAC wrote:Who hates Puig? Look I hate that douchebag just as much as the next guy but if you're gonna hit Mr. March do it in April, not in the midst of a fucking pennant race. Or let Anaheim, Houston, Toronto, etc. do it. Their season's are over.
Idiots.
Dempster was "only" suspended 5 games for his intentional bean ball at ARod.
Bud must be in bed with the Sox and Dempster because the punishment
was weak. Dempster won't miss a start based on the current Sox scheduled days off. What a nice punishment?
Dempster is a punk. He missed ARod on the 1st pitch and waited for the 3-0 count to drill him.
All this means is ARod took him deep later in the game and Dempster was unable to hold a 6-3 lead,

I thought Kruk on ESPN said a lot of interesting comments following the bean ball. Schilling also added a few nice comments. Someone on the Sox is going to get drilled and the player might as well be Ortiz.

Fuck the rules and fuck Bud Selig and the rules committee.
Dempster should miss 1 start. A position player gets suspended for 1 game and that player can not play.
A starter can be suspended 5 games and not miss a start. What's the point???
Bud wants to fuck over ARod any chance he gets and now ARod is getting
support from players & the public for how he is being treated.
Dempster fucked up. He wanted to take matters into his own hands and
in the end he took a loss, was taken deep and upset his own teammate(Ortiz)

Those are the rules though and you can't have it both ways. Seriously which is it? Your ( rightfully ) pissed that Selig took liberties with Arod, the PED testing suspensions and the Collective Bargaining Agreement, then on the other hand your pissed that Selig didn't take liberties with Dempster's suspension and give him more than the 5 game standard that's set.Machado wrote:Keep up that attitude and I might personally ask Joba to drill Ortizkilleverything wrote:Only 5 games? Saw the highlights, but it wasn't as bad as the King striking out 10 Angels and have no run support. They should be ashamed of themselves.johnk5150 wrote:I hope everyone was paying attention to the Cubs giving a solid lesson on how to blow a six run lead to San Diego of all teams.
I just read that the Dodgers backed off a 210m deal for Clayton Kershaw who is eligible for arbitration after this season and free agency in 2014. His "attempted" deal would include an opt-out clause ( not unlike Greinke's ).
Which leads me to this question. What do y'all think he'll get? Do you think his contract will surpass Verlander's or the King? He's having a historic year with an ERA close to Pedro Martinez in 2000. With the amount LA is willing to spend I think it could rival Arod's ridiculous deal.

Kershaw is about the only pitcher I'd hand a blank check to, if I was a GM. Well, let me back out of that - he's certainly gonna get $20+ million/year for at least six years. That's a very conservative estimate, but yeah. I'm thinking maybe 8/$175.

He'll definitely get paid too. An eight year deal would keep him to his age 33 season. I mean the guy hasn't even hit his prime yet, if you put it in perspective that's fucking scary. Kofax had the dominance just not the longevity. With Clayton's meteoric rise to the best in baseball he could surpass Sandy as the alltime Dodger great when he retires.
I'm thinking since he has no injury concerns that I'm aware of an incentive laden deal could push it well into the 200m range.

Puig is already wearing out his welcome with his teammates.
I think it was Hairston the other day that made some public comments
about Puig. Here they are:
According to FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal, Jerry Hairston Jr. said that a number of veterans spoke to Puig this week in an effort to get him to cut down on his mistakes. He described it as essentially their way of saying, “Hey, that’s enough,” and that such mistakes could prove costly during the postseason.
“A lot of things are happening to him,” Hairston said. “He’s a superstar at 22. He’s in a new country, a new culture. We are sensitive to that.
“But if you¹re going to be a great player, you’ve got to do the little things. That’s how you win. That’s the key.”

And that's exactly why I don't think LA is the team to beat, they're fundamentally flawed. Puig has the potential to be scary good as does LAD over the long run. I just think their "holes" are going to do them in in October.
