What do you have against Mattingly? I've made everyone and I mean everyone aware of my complete and pure total HATRED of the Yankees, yet I've always respected and non-chalantley cheered on Donnie Baseball. Great great player and a class act, at least in his Yankee days.NeverSurrender wrote:Don't care. If I ant to bitch about Donnie Foosball, I will.

I don't dislike him at all. But every game is still important, imo.

We'll agree to disagree then. LA is playing at monsterous winning pct. right now. They've assured a trip to the post season and ( as I've stated before ) next to Puig's heroics, and that merciless pitching staff they're a fundamentally flawed team.NeverSurrender wrote:I don't dislike him at all. I think that they should rest their guys, because St. louis is St. Louis and ( NL WS prediction ) Atlanta will eat them alive in October. Once you've ruled the division the games are meaningless IMO. Look at the 2001 116 wins Seattle Mariners. They blew their load for that record and after Freddie Gardia in game one, the MFY beat the shit out of them in the ALCS.

Continuing with my point above, LA is at a .800 winning pct. right now. Unreal.
Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
For the record I wouldn't want another manager with this club. But saying you're going to rest players then end up putting them in the game still scrambles my eggs. Keeping them fresh with a little rest maybe? Donnie has done a fantastic job.killeverything wrote:What do you have against Mattingly? Like you I think Atlanta or the Cards are the favorites. Apart from wishing for a Dodger championship I'd cheer to see the Pirates play Cinderella.

It's raining RBI's in Boston. How bad is it going to effect them without Ellsbury? Out indefinitely?
*Said it days earlier, Dodgers are going to hit a low point leaving Colorado, the time to struggle for a week or two is now then get back on fire.

I agree with you on LA. Let them get it out of their system now, because playing in the weak West could bite them in the ass come playoffs.

Ellsbury has been diagnosed with a stress fracture in his foot, they expect him to return before season's end. Boras is already spinning it as a "random freak injury ( again )", since glass man is approaching free agency.
Tonight we see Kershaw against Bailey in what promises to epic pitcher's duel. Cincy is pretty hot, only 1 and a 1/2 back and going for the sweep. Kershaw struggled his last two starts, but hasn't put up three bad in a row....ever. So this one should be worth checking out.

And this is why every game is important until you clinch and you go for the jugular. Donnie Foosball sent a bad message to his team.

visiting him on the mound just before he took the loss to the Reds
over the weekend.
Was his fastball really sitting at 91 that inning? I thought he threw
around 96.

September 9th.
the Dodgers on Monday were nearing an agreement to sign fellow Cuban defector Alexander Guerrero, according to a baseball source. The deal is in the hands of Major League Baseball awaiting approval.
Been following this one on the side, kind of another reason why I feel next year is going to be a monster.....Add Kemp and this dude with their new money tree. NY and Boston move over there's a new sheriff in town and he's
spending money.

Steve Garvey
Hall of Fame player or not???
1 MVP
4 Gold Gloves
10 time All Star
272 HR's
1,308 RBI's
.294 Career Batting Average
.996 Career Fielding Percentage
I recently saw an interview with him on the Tim McCarver syndicated
T.V. show.
I loathe Tim but I watch when he has guests that I am interested in watching.
I would vote Garvey into the HOF.
Would you??

Without question. One of my childhood stars so of course Garvey has my vote, he played like 20 years....six 200-hit seasons...

42% in 1995???
I really didn't even consider he was NOT in the HOF until I saw the t.v.
interview over the weekend.

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
NY Yankees given a 7% chance to make the playoffs.
Dodgers stop their skid with 6HR's, Juan Uribe 4 for 4 with 3 HR's. Funny how it's crazy insane when the Dodgers do it but every Boston game I expect it now.

Never thought about it, kind of figured he was in all these years. In fact I don't know much about Coopers Town including the in's and out's. I've been to Canton and always wanted to see Coopers.Machado wrote:I really didn't even consider he was NOT in the HOF until I saw the t.v.

He was a very good player. The key element being "very good", I disagree that he's HOF caliber. Electing Jim Rice ( which I mistakenly supported ) opened a whole new can of worms. Election is for the elite, not the very good.Machado wrote:I think the highest percentage he received from voters wasUtahRatt wrote:Without question. Garvey set a National League record with 1207 consecutive games played, from September 3, 1975, to July 29, 1983. fourth-longest such streak in Major League Baseball history.
Only 15 players have six 200-hit seasons.
With the Dodgers, he played in 1,727 games over 14 seasons and hit .301 with 211 homers and 992 RBI.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Pretty elite numbers for playing in the arguably the best park for pitchers.
Even if it's not a given like I'd suggest, at worst it could be a good argument...

Let me clarify my statement. Garvey in the Hall IS a very good arguement unfortunatley he falls short. My opinion is if you start lowering the requirements eventually you have a Hall of Ron Santoses. It's a slippery slope.Utahratt wrote:Pretty elite numbers for playing in the arguably the best park for pitchers.

Yankees place Jeter on the DL
Ankle not yet 100%.
Season is more than likely over for Jeter
In a corresponding move, Yankees have signed Brendan Ryan to play SS.
Ryan has a great rep as a defensive SS.

Ryan is the best defensive SS in baseball, unfortunately is .190BAA and rise of Nick Franklin has made him a bench player. Zuerednick gave Ryan up so "he could go compete." The deal is for a PTBNL. The last PTBNL deal with the MFY ( Ichiro ) was Danny Farquarar ( sp? ) who turned into a pretty bad ass closer.Machado wrote:Yankees place Jeter on the DL

I think NY owes Seattle for dumping OVERATED hitting/catching prospect, who can't fucking hit....or catch; Jesus Montero on them for Pineda. Hopefully the PTBNL is another diamond in the rough.
Ryan's defensive wizardry is a fucking treat to watch, unfortunately if NY slips their way into the post season he won't be on the roster since he was added after Sept. 1st.

If a pitcher stands at the plate to admire a HR, more power to him. Especially when a player on the opposing team "talks smack" directly at him prior.
In today's game you have some players celebrating getting a single
by motioning to their dugout or fans with 1 arm raised in the air.
To me that is more ridiculous compared to hitting a HR
