Inasmuch as I love Freaks, never understood why Hans went after the big blonde, when his own girlfriend was way prettier.

Hi Vlad! I'm guessing me and Travis were watching Turner Classic Movies last night which was highlighting Tod Browning films. IDK if you watch TCM, but Robert Osbourne is a film historian with a plethora of knowledge, and gives a synopsis of each movie before he airs it and talks about the stars. He has in depth interviews with the likes of Arlene Dahl and Kim Novak and other neat stars. He's hawt.vlad wrote:First TravisBicklesMOhawk mentions a Tod Browning film, Freaks and now so do you. I was coming to the thread to talk about London After MIdnight, the lost Browning film that Mark of the Vampire was a remake of.Bighole wrote:MARK OF THE VAMPIRE. 1935 Bela Lugosi, Lionel Barrymore. Creepy. Neat LARGE flying bats (you can barely see the wires) and giant cobwebs. No music made it more horrifying. White faced Lugosi as the Count was never better. What an actor. Love him. 8/10
London After Midnight is a lost film from 1927, but about 10 years ago a photographic reconstruction was made, based on a script and stills taken from the set (abut 200 of them). It was interesting, though I don't know if I could actually score it. It got me reading about it last night after watching it...

This is because theglammerthebetter closely identifies with Jackman's character, who also had testicles on his chin.theglammerthebetter wrote:Movie 43( 2013)

Sheitan (2006) - 8/10. Great, original French horror movie with Vincent Cassel as the hands-down creepy/funniest villain ever, as well as his own wife. The whole thing is kind of a hicksploitation affair spiced up with some good old Satanism, kinda like Deliverance meets Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Evil Dead, but hilarious. Barely any gore, though.
À la folie... pas du tout ("He Loves Me... He Loves Me Not" 2002) - 6/10. Audrey Tautou plays a psycho stalker who thinks she's dating some doctor guy who doesn't even know her, which isn't revealed until the middle of the movie. That twist is the only thing going on, though.

The Nanny Diaries. 2/10. I watched this to see Chris Evans. ScarJo, as usual, does nothing more than stare vacantly into the camera and pout her lips.

The Beatles First US Visit 1964
I can't recall who recommended the dvd to me here on Sludge, but I want to them them for the suggestion.
Great documentary film. You have to understand this was filmed in '64 but the footage and the manner in which this was filmed would stand up in today's era.
The filmmakers were only hired as the band already en route to NY from England.

Deep Red - 4/10
I just flat out could not get into this "masterpiece" of horror. Dario Argento has a hell of an eye for cinematography and makes a scene look like art, but good god, was this movie mediocre. Didn't even finish it. The story, characters, and acting were atrocious.
Seriously don't get all the worship for this guy.

I see what you mean. I started with Phenomena and Suspiria and I liked those, but since then every one of his movies I've tried was worse than the last. Latest one was Tenebre and I'm now done with Argento, because that flat-out sucked.
Re: Rate the last movie you saw
You definitely need to be in the right mood for an Argento flick, but don't either of you give up on him if you haven't seen Opera yet.

La science des rêves ("The Science of Sleep" 2006) - 5/10. Had high hopes for this one, but aside from Emma de Caunes being hot in it for like two minutes, this mostly annoyed me.
La frontière de l'aube ("Frontier of the Dawn" 2008) - 4/10. Pseudo-artsy black and white abomination devoid of plot or common sense. One point for the music, one point because everybody kills themselves, two points for Laura Smet's tits.

The Piano Tuner of Earthquakes 8/10
The second live action film from the Brothers Quay. I didn't like it as much as Institute Benjamenta, but I still loved it. I would love a feature length stop motion film from them. I could watch the Quays, and Svankmajer, non stop and never get bored.

The Conjuring. 9/10 Finally got around to seeing this on DVD. Even though it did get a lot of good word of mouth from horror fans, I'm tired of getting burned with new horror movies and rarely go to the show to see them.
Overall, it was a pretty damn scary haunted house movie. Can't rate it a perfect 10 because of the predictable exorcism at the end. Who didn't see that coming?

FX had a marathon before AHS, so I reluctantly watched just to kill time. Good God, these movies really suck.
And yet some people like them. When I was visiting my sister last Christmas we watched three of them. I thought they sucked but they love them.

Lords of Salem: 3/10
The beginning of the film was slow but watchable, so I started to think you guys may have been too hard on it. But then the end... Wow. It gets a 3 instead of a 2 because Magenta from Rocky Horror was in it and because that Lucifer creature made me laugh my ass off, but I don't think Zombie intended that.John Simon Ritchie wrote:Movie suuuuucks....bad.caroline wrote:The reviews I read (on Amazon, I think) were evenly split, with half giving one star and half giving 5. This is what a film school "F" student thinks avant garde is. Hopefully Rob Zombie will never get another budget to do another movie. Damn this film was BAD! Easily the worst movie I have ever seen.

I've seen this incredible 2004 film many times. Had to watch it again on HBO last night.
Well written, the acting was outstanding and the story line was executed to perfection
