Any one who needs a decent backup catcher can just trade for Salty shortly anyways.

Now it's coming out that Seattle is the major contributor in trading for Kemp. If there was any doubt especially after the start of the off season that the M's need to fire/eradicate...by fire their FO. Z's actions ( or lack there of ) have completely removed them.

Jacoby and the MFY agree to a 7/154m deal.

I had heard that they were going all in on Ellsbury when Cano and Jay-Z's joke of an agency wouldn't budge.

"We won the post-season"- Hank and Hal. A seven year deal for a 30 year old injury prone centerfielder with a skillset that doesn't age well? Not exactly, he'll be good ( if healthy ) for the first few years granted. I just wouldn't expect him to last as long as his contract and ( and here's the most IMPORTANT part ) he can't pitch.

The MFY always lose their shit after Boston wins the WS. It's going to be funny watching them sign everyone and not win again. Tanaka? 100+ million? Awesome, for every 1 Darvish there's 20 Matsuzakas. I'm glad Cherington didn't budge when Ellsbury went to Boras, it'll probably play out like Pappelbon's big payday too.

Not a fan of this deal.
7 years is a lot.
The prices for free agents in this era are ridiculous. What happened to the standard 4-5 year deal? Gone. Extinct.
Ellsbury had a monster 2011 season. Played 158 games that year. Has not done that since and who's to say he will ever again since the guy seems to break a bone or suffer a significant injury quite often.
Yes the Yankees still have money to pay Cano but will another 7 year deal for Cano actually help or hurt the Yankees???

I don't know how Kemp can pass a physical. After watching a long breakdown on Kemp's injury they made it very clear he'll never fully recover, one of those "you have to live with it" and each trip to the DL it gets worse. Damaged goods...Maybe somethings changed but I can't imagine Kemp ever playing a full season. I don't think he'll make a good DH either.

Looks like Kemp has a better shot then I thought.....

MLB Trade Rumors: Will NY Yankees Send Ace CC Sabathia To LA Dodgers For Outfielder Matt Kemp?
According to ESPN, the Yankees and Dodgers could enter trade talks involving New York ace CC Sabathia and LA outfielder Matt Kemp. With both teams looking to improve heading into 2014, this deal could make sense for both sides if each front office is willing to listen.
--------------------------------------------------------
According to sources, both the Yankees and Red Sox have joined division rivals the Tampa Bay Rays, Toronto Blue Jays, Baltimore Orioles and the Seattle Mariners on the list of teams vying for the do-it-all slugger.

Brian Wilson reportedly 'close' to return to Dodgers

I don't get it myself but one thing I've learnt about Zduerenick and the Seattle FO is while all the pieces there to build a successful franchise, they're too stupid to know how. Kemp is a big name and it's easy to spell so Z can tell the fanbase we signed a superstar from LA. Matt Kemp! K-e-m-p. Kemp.

I really believe that motherfucker is that dumb.

*edit*

Speaking of which it's being reported that Cano's agents had a very good meeting in Seattle today. Which means that the MFY will soon sign their 2B.

That's just how it goes Pujols, Fielder, Hamilton, Ellsbury.....

The White Sox ink Konerko to a 1/2.5m deal to return.

Jay-Z and his posse are still exploiting the Mariners to get him his MFY deal, no new news.

Brian Wilson and the Dodgers agree to a 1/10m deal with a player option for 1/8.25m.

There's reports coming out that Seattle is willing to go 230/240 for Cano. The more I think about this the more I'm getting on board. Seattle has a problem attracting big free agent hitters because of the park confines, the ISO and SLG decrease was eradicated somewhat with moving in the fences. Then the complete lack of leadership and mentally challenged coaching has continued to scare them off.

Hear me out with this. The pitching is sooooo there with the King, Iwakuma and ( soon to be ) Walker or a potential trade for Price, but that'll be saved for a different post. If they bring a player like Cano added to the mix of a burgeoning Zunino, Franklin, Walker, Paxton, and Ackley their turnaround wouldn't be more than two years away.

Beane and Daniels have been making brilliant trades and signings leaving Z in the dust soon to be looking up at Houston in the standings. I'm thinking that at this point with McClendon's effect as manager unknown ( it will easily surpass Eric Wedge though ) and the young core without motivation. Bring in Cano it could have a whole change in chemistry. Fuck it.

*edit*

Dodgers and Wilson, not the MFY

MFY=Dodgers....same difference really.

Robinson Cano and the Seattle Mariners have agreed to sign a 10-year, $240-million contract, a source told ESPNdeportes.com Friday.

The player and his agents met Thursday night in Seattle with the Mariners' top executives and the team made an offer he couldn't refuse, the source added.

The source said Cano will return to Seattle on Sunday and will undergo a physical on Monday to complete what would be the third largest contract in history, tied with the one that Albert Pujols signed with Los Angeles Angels three years ago.

Alex Rodriguez has the top two contracts in baseball history. In the winter of 2007, A-Rod signed a 10-year, $275 million extension with the New York Yankees, replacing the 10-year and $252 million pact that had been stamped with Texas in December 2000 .

Seattle can have him for those years and that much money.
Very happy the Yankees did not sign Cano to a contract like that.
UNREAL!

Cano can now play for a perennial loser and enjoy all his $$$

It will make or break the franchise. An Arod in Texas or a Heyward in Washington. The money is unreal but I get it. Do something, anything they are two pieces from a major turnaround and with the right manager ( McClendon? ) it could happen.

They played under their pythagorian and projections for a couple seasons now, remember Eric Wedge was at the helm with Raul Ibanez roaming the outfield. Bill James had them as the breakout team last year ( heh ), they could be the next Royals or the Pirates. They're right there. It will be fun up in Seattle this year.

*edit*

This offseason has been incredible. "Free agency winners" the MFY have spent a ton of money, lost two top draft picks yet still haven't improved their team. Now there's a possibility Tanaka won't be posted and if he is the max bid limit is 20m?

They don't have the picks or prospects to pay for Price, Erwin Santana is on the market though. Oh! So is Garza, Halladay and Ubaldo. Last time I checked McCann and Jacoby can't pitch. :D

*This just in*

Philadelphia has learned what Boston did that after a while Pappelbon's schtick get's old, because he's on the trade block.

With the Kurodo signing the Yankees staff is:
C.C.
Nova
Kuroda
Warren/Phelps/Nuno
etc.....

Plenty of time to trade for or sign a pitcher to fill the gaps.
It's not like the season is beginning tomorrow.

Trade for whom? The MFY don't have any chips, sacrificed two picks w/ Ellsbury and McCann signings and have a barren farm system. Matt Garza's on his way! Look out!

The funny ( or infuriating ) thing to me is I still believe Pineda can regain his form, unfortunately he's going to be on an innings limit.

Yankees can trade Gary Sanchez, minor league Catching prospect.
Brett Gardner could be expendable now that Ellsbury was signed and Cano went to Seattle.
Are you sure about losing those picks? I read today that report was wrong and that the Yankees won't be losing any picks.

No shit? That's the third time it's changed now.
*Not losing a pick* *Losing a pick* *Not losing a pick*
They should take away their pick just on Goddamn principle.

As for Sanchez is he really that highly regarded? I haven't picked up the Baseball America Prospect Handbook 2014 yet, but everything I've heard so far is he's remarkably average not a superstar like Montero.....isn't.

Now on to Gardner he's got speed, defensive range and on base skills with no power. Those guy's aren't as coveted as you think.

Fuck that. Keep him on the team and in the dugout. It came to light how much his teamates in Seattl and Texas hated him, I'm pretty sure NY feels the way about him.

Douchebag in the lineup devoid of pitching=win.
