Ok, heres a quick rundown...just of the Oscar Nominated Films that I have seen so far.

12 Years a Slave 5 out of 5 stars. This is a great film, one of the best this year. Chiwetel Ejiofor deserves his Oscar nod, and is a dark horse for the win.

American Hustle 4.5 out of 5 Stars. Great film with great performances by Bale , Cooper and Adams. I dont see this taking the Oscar in any of its nominations. Bale was stronger when he won for Best Supporting in The Fighter...Cooper may pull off Best Supporting since he lost in Silver Linings, but Jennifer Lawrence won for the same film, so I doubt she makes a back-to-back showing.

August:Osage County 4 out of 5 Stars. Great film and great acting all around. Weird little film as well, since there is actually no one to root for...Look for Meryl Streep to nab the Best Actress Oscar.

Dallas Buyers Club 5 out of 5 stars. One of, if not the best, films of the year! Matthew McConaughey killed this role! Its high time he was recognized by the academy. Jared Leto is also superb in his role. I really hope McConaughey finally gets his due.

The Wolf of Wall Street 5 out of 5 stars. While this is a great film, it is also far too familiar...Wall Street did all of this before...and thats whats going to ultimately hurt this film IMO. While I do think Leo DiCaprio is a fine actor, I dont think this is his Oscar film..I think he should have gotten the nod either for Catch Me If You can or The Departed.

Gravity 3.5 out of 5 Stars. I really dont understand why this film is even nominated as "Best Film"? While it is a decent Sci/Fi film, it really isnt anything to crow about. The cinematography is excellent, but the story is fairly thin and dialogue is almost non-existent. Sandra Bullock is good in it, but lets admit, she does a fine job playing a "victim"...and thats basically all this film is, her being victimized by circumstance. Clooney is almost an afterthought...as is this film.

Captain Phillips 4.0 out of 5 Stars. Good film, but compared to the stories from the crew, it just doesnt all add up to what was shown on the screen. Like most "based on a true story" films, there are 3 sides, and in this film, we only get to see 1 side...and that takes away from the film IMO. Tom Hanks is as always, Tom Hanks. He can and does perform to the level that he needs to in order to make a film role believable, but I just dont think he can leap over Dallas Buyers Club or 12 Years a Slave this time.

***Why the hell was "Lee Daniels` The Butler" black listed from any nominations?*** I hate to admit it, but this kinda pisses me off. The Butler is a wonderfully done film. It transcends the subject matter to a point where everyone, including well to do whites can enjoy the film, and yet it is completely left out of any Oscar noms. Forrest Whitaker did an outstanding job, and was almost outdone by his costar Oprah Winfrey. This is by far and away Oprahs best performance...even surpassing her Best Supporting Oscar nomination for the Color Purple. I would put this film heads and tails above Gravity where it comes to Oscar consideration...it is indeed a better film!

Stitches - 8.5 outta 10. Awesome, Irish occult clown flick. Big, dumb, over the top fun. Black comedy meets 80s slasher...and CLOWNS!!

I mentioned this elsewhere but might as well make it official. Totally agree on the rating. This was funny and the Irish accents added to it. Their accent says "cunt" the best. The end of the movie suggests a sequel, which I'll be looking out for.

Robocop 2014 - I really really wanted to like this. I didn't. All I could think of while watching was the Scatterbrain song 'Tastes Like Chicken', and the line 'Standardized, homogenized, sterilized, I've heard that song before'. They just completely made it PC, and that sucks.

Capatain Phillips 7/10. Didn't think it was as great as everyone made it out to be.

Ender's Game 7.5/10. Pretty good sci-fi movie. Good special effects and it held my attention. The kid who played Ender did a pretty good job.

Some music documentaries I recently watched:

Let's Get Lost (1988) - 8/10. Cool gritty documentary about Chet Baker, mostly consisting of interview footage of him, as well as his ex wives and contemporaries.

Patti Smith: Dream of Life (2008) - 6/10. Maybe I'm just not enough into Patti Smith, but this one was dragging a bit.

You See Me Laughin' (2002) - 8/10. Great documentary about the old Mississippi blues people rediscovered by the guys from Fat Possum Records in the 90s. Even if you're not into blues, this film is absolutely worth your while.

Sudden Manhattan starring Adrienne Shelley. Written, and directed by Adrienne Shelley. She reminds me of Julia Roberts but younger, and cuter, and without the huge lips.

Awesome dark comedy about a girl in Manhattan who may or may not be going crazy.

Best line "Could I have another cup of tea, perhaps? You know, before you chase me down the street and shoot me in the back, and rape me, and make a stew out of me? Do you think that'd be alright?"

She was beautiful, and her acting was so good I looked her up and found this chilling story:

Meryl Streep is brilliant in this movie. I think anyone whose family is even slightly dysfunctional will relate to a point.

Dallas Buyers Club - 4/5
So good. Matthew McConaughey is excellent. Well deserved Oscar nom for both him and Jared Leto.

Saving Mr. Banks - 4.5/5
I'm a sucker for Mary Poppins so I was rather biased in rating this movie. But both Tom Hanks as Walt Disney and Emma Thompson as P.L. Travers were great. Plus I learned a lot about Mary Poppins. (Again, I'm just a big sucker for Mary Poppins.)

Heres another batch...

Oldboy - 2013 4.5 out of 5 Stars. Josh Brolin was pretty good in this. I hadnt seen the first film, so I came into this with virgin eyes. Good story, good acting for the story, and a fairly good twist (for those who cant see the twist coming anyway, I spotted it about 20 minutes in). All in all, I would and will watch it again, if for no other reason than Olson`s boobs...

Oldboy - 2003 4 out of 5 Stars. I liked this version, but I gave it a lower rating based soley on the fact that the version I saw was dubbed in English and not sub titled. I prefer subs to dubs... I will say, this version is actually faster paced and a tad more believable due to the 15 year time span vs the 20 year of the Brolin flick.

Enders Game 3.5 out of 5 Stars. Decent space flick, but I felt cheated in the sense we didnt get to see any real battle between the humans and the Formics. We can chalk it up to whatever you like, but I felt this had a lot of Starship Troopers feel to it. just with a bigger budget and Harrison Ford. It could have been better, and due to the ending, it makes continuing it with future films less appealing.

I didn't see The Butler, so I really can't comment on the film, however, I'm extremely happy that the Academy Awards will be an Oprah Free event this year. She's the most overrated celebrity who really isn't even a celebrity. She's a talk show host. and I didn't want her taking over the awards show.

And I still think Prisoners should have been the 10th nominee for best picture, and Jackman also should have been up for Best Actor.
That movie only got one nomination for Cinematography - and I still can't really understand why.

"Capote" starring Philip Seymour Hoffman. 4 of 5 stars. I thought it was a great movie, and he was pretty incredible as Truman Capote. Infinitely better than "The Master" which I watched last weekend.

Musically, I watched the first hour and 45 minutes of KISS Exposed 2 Disc 1. Definitely for die hards only. In contrast, I watched the first couple hours of KISSology Volume 3 Disc 1, which has a great Revenge tour show on tape with a kind of interesting commentary track, then the Behind The Scenes short from the Un-plugged show with commentary all about the Konvention tour, then the actual full Un-plugged show.

So Exposed II gets 3 stars, KISSology 3 gets 4 stars.

I finally got to watch this one last night. I, too, thought it was incredibly moving. The performances, direction and writing were all top-notch. Whitaker was great, and Oprah was indeed also fantastic. I know some people have been rolling their eyes in disbelief, but she certainly *was* overlooked for the awards categories. Also, for a guy who was 35 or 36 at the time, David Oyelowo played a pretty convincing high school/college student. He's a really great actor, and was in a very overlooked movie called "Middle of Nowhere." I thought the casting of the presidents was interesting. You had these prominent actors like Robin Williams, John Cusack, Liev Schreiber, James Marsden and Alan Rickman in small, but pivotal roles as various presidents. At first I thought the casting of those roles might be off-base until I realized that they weren't playing up the oft-caricatured qualities, but trying to offer up a more subtle essence of each person, and they actually struck the right balance.
