Opening Day
I believe in the church of baseball. I've tried all the major religions and most of the minor ones. I've worshipped Buddha, Allah, Brahma, Vishnu, Siva, trees, mushrooms, and Isadora Duncan. I know things. For instance there are 108 beads in a Catholic rosary and there are 108 stitches in a baseball. When I learned that, I gave Jesus a chance. But it just didn't work out between us. The Lord laid too much guilt on me. I prefer metaphysics to theology. You see, there's no guilt in baseball. And it is never boring.... I've tried them all, I really have, and the only church that truly feeds the soul, day in and day out, is the church of baseball.

Good luck to all your teams. Except Machado and the Yankees, they can both suck it.

Wainwright and Fernandez already look like they're going to battle it out for the NL Cy all year.
Vladimir Guerrero signed a one day contract to retire an Angel. He's set to throw out the first pitch. Cool...then Jerod Weaver faces KING Felix on his 7th career opening day start.
4-0 1.33ERA 41K 46IP

-Madison Bumgarner gets the opening day start for SF.
-CC Sabbathia is even older.
-Grady Sizemore hit a HR after not playing since 2011.
-Wilson Ruiz broke his hand.
-Justin Verlander also gets his 7th career opening day start.
-Puig still needs to calm down. I think his sophmore slump is coming this year.
What else? Oh yeah fuck you Yankees and suck it to the 26+ years without a pennant Yankee wannabes on the west coast.

After giving up 11 hits too. Wins and losses....the way to judge a pitcher.
Jose Fernandez:

Re: Opening Day
Mike fucking Trout first ( or second, can't recall ) pitch hit a straight blast! Thing was a missile. Trout is something like 17 for 39 off the King. Actually Trout is something like 5 for 5 off everybody
He should ask for a raise, maybe even get greedy and say "hey! Where's my MVPs? Goddamnit."

Re: Opening Day
What a start!
Justin Masterson:
7IP 0R 4H 1BB 4k
SF's poor IF defense gave up 4 runs ( none earned ) behind Bumgarner. Posey hit a 2 run bomb in the 9th to win 9-8. Defense aside Bumgarner pitched good.
Seattle and the King? What a game. King settled into King mode quickly after the Pujols' 2B RBI and HR to Trout:
6IP 4H 1BB 2ER 11K
" He flipped the switch and went into nasty mode." - Mike Trout on King Felix tonight.
Here's where this game was fun. Robinson Cano's protection in the lineup was Justin Smoak ( say that out loud to get the full effect ). In the 6th they walked Cano to get to Smoak ( flied out ). In the 9th Cano doubled and Cano smacked it Trout style into the stands. The onslaught kept coming with Ackley, etc. for a 9th inning massacre.
We all talk about how Anaheim got lucky not having to pay Trout a billion to extend and have him be estatic about it. It's karma IMO. Pujols hit a double tonight...that's it and they've got that guy for the next 7 YEARS. They also got Trout. See? It all works out in the end.
Baltimore beat Boston. That's a team a lot of people don't give enough credit too. They set an mlb record last season for defense and they've only improved this year.
Tampa stomped Toronto. That's another team that makes me believe Boston and NY will be fighting for a wild card this year.
Now some stupid news:
Milwaukee Brewers fans gave Ryan Braun a standing ovation. What the fuck for? The guy cheated an MVP, got the dude who tested him fired ( because he hates jews or some shit ), and lied Armstrong style till he was red in the face. Fuck you Milwaukee, enjoy looking up at St. Louis...........and Chicago
( sorry couldn't help it ).
And bad news:
The fucking Yankees open the season against Houston tomorrow. Houston? C' mon. Still think NY misses the playoffs.

And in the "New Season, Same as the Last" category:
BJ Upton + Dan Uggla = 0-8 at the plate.

No one saw Uggla's fall coming. It reminds me so far as Chone Figgins signing with Seattle ( a bust, but one I would've done too. Still ). There is still 161 games left and it would shock me to see both of them hoisting the Mendoza line all season.Alabama Slammer wrote:And in the "New Season, Same as the Last" category:

Re: Opening Day
It kills me that a guy like Jordan Schafer is sitting on the bench, but they have to play those two because of the money tied up in them. I know, you have to play them, hope they produce for the 1st half of the season, and then hopefully get something for them in trade; but it still sucks.killeverything wrote:No one saw Uggla's fall coming.
