Today at 04:08PST King Felix of the underrated, 5 game win streak and 10 of the last 12 winners Seattle Mariners takes the mound against David Price and the reeling 1.5 back, formerly heavily favored Detroit Tigers.

King Felix vs. David Price. Today is the first time these two have matched up against each other. KC is surging, so the Tigers have to stop the bleeding. Meanwhile the King is still in the midst of a historically great season.

This is THE pitching matchup of the year.

*edit

By "THE pitching matchup of the year," I mean in the AL. Anytime Wainwright battles Kershaw is pretty dope too.

Tonight's game was bullshit. King Felix probably still would have lost because it's really hard to score runs off David Price. The homeplate ump Tony Randazzo stopped the King's streak. McClendon was ejected over it, etc. This guy's incompetence stopped a historical streak. I think that is bullshit. With pitchtracker when your SOOO off ( biased? ) we all know.

Nothing will happen, the umps are a union. Union's suck. Always felt that way.

Am still very pleased that Cashman and the Yankees did not sign Hamilton when they had a chance.
Can't trust an addict.

Mired in a season-long slump, Los Angeles Angels slugging outfielder Josh Hamilton took himself out of Sunday's lineup against the Texas Rangers for a mental break.

"Yeah, I asked [Angels manager Mike Scioscia] could I have a day because I felt like I was spinning my wheels and felt like I wasn't getting anywhere," Hamilton said after the Angels' 3-2 loss to the Rangers on Sunday. "So sometimes it's good to do that and take a step back."

Something like that. There were some really close ones though.

Boston sends Jackie "I'm so far from replacing Ellsbury" Bradley Jr. down too AAA. Call up Mookie Betts.

Looking at the numbers Seattle is possibly the most complete team in the AL West heading down the stretch. It's underdog story, well, an underdog with a quarter billion dollar 2nd baseman kinda story.

Oakland just got swept by Atlanta, Anaheim lost to TX. In fact LAAAAA and Oakland play 7 out of their last 10 against each other.

Josh Hamilton ( after getting called out by Scosscia for "not being the player he was in TX" http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/ ... e-rangers/ ) asks for the day off to "clear his head."

I remember the NESN announcers and Boston media
could not say enough "great" things about Jackie.
They put him so high up on a pedestal.
Goes to show that highly touted prospects are better to trade away for veterans vs allowing them to fail in the big leagues.

A lot of team's didn't want Hamilton. He Ks a lot and while he will declare an assault on baseball, he's pretty streaky. Add to his constant DL stints. It's not worth it.

Nolan hated him, because he didn't seem to care. He quit chewing tobacco right before the playoffs, where he slumped....and TX once again lost the WS. His priorities seem to be Jesus. That's it. I wouldn't have wanted to sign him either. I hang with a couple cats from Arlington and they disliked him quite a bit. Put it this way, they wanted to resign Nelson Cruz over Hamilton.

If Cruz would have caught that flyball Texas wins the series. They still wanted him over Josh. That's pretty telling IMO.

See I disagree, if I'm reading you right.
NYY has all the vets and are fucked long term because of it. Bradley Jr. could be really good, but he ain't yet.

I wouldn't have attempted to resign Jacoby either. Duquette/Epstein & Hoyer/Cherington have been amazingly successful with their prospects. I think that is the way a good franchise is run.

Texas, Oakland, St. Louis, Milwaukie, possibly Seattle and Houston ( now ) are moving forward from their draft picks working out. The Yankee way of having a suckass GM who throws money around is as outdated as tape recorders. Shit, the last Yankees success was when Gene Micheal drafted the "Core 4."

With the hype of 'Moneyball' drafting and Sabremetics are what's cool now. If Epstein/Hoyer succeed in Chicago then Joe Morgan will probably have an aneurysm not understanding it.

*edit x3

James Jones sent to AAA. Roenis Elias up to start against Philly.

When I keep bringing up the mentioned 2 best players talked about before last season between Kemp and Hamilton most of the deciding factors was Hamilton's drug history and his attitude.

I think Hamilton has a ton of pure talent but lacks heart and dedication....Including I don't think his heads screwed on tight either.

Clayton Kershaw - 20 games, 14w 3L 1.86ERA 6,CG 2,SHO 174,SO 19,BB .84WHIP 145.1,IP

7 and 1 in his last 10 games. ERA 1.33 - With 6 complete games alone it's still more then any MLB team combined staff other then tied with the Giants at 6
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
King Felix - 26 games, 13w 4L 1.99ERA 0,CG 0SHO 197,SO 33BB .87WHIP 185.1,IP

5 and 2 in his last 10 games. ERA 1.63 In his 3 no decisions he gave up 0,1,2 ER's. Hasn't given up more then 2ER in his last ten

Seattle Mariners lead MLB with 2.94ERA and 1.13WHIP with the next closest at 1.17, 118, 1.20. Only team under 3.00ERA

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Baltimore Orioles! 72w 52L up 8.5 over the Yankees!

And 9 over the Jay's, I don't think a wildcard is coming out of the East. Awesome. GO O's.

He's fucking horrible. At least Washington had the sense to move him down in the lineup occasionally. Scioscia keeps sticking him in the cleanup spot. Drives me nuts.

Not to mention LAA's future...I understand, Hamilton’s contract jumps up by $8 million next season and both Weaver and C.J. Wilson jump by $2 million with Trout’s salary jumping by $10 million in 2016
But..

Just coming here to post this. He was carried off the field on a stretcher.

Seattle got fucked pretty hard on some calls, but there is still no excuse to losing to fucking Philly. Anaheim's lead is safe for now. I still believe the M's can overtake them personally. Their pitching was already pretty yawn inducing. Now it could be even less intimidating.

SF had their rain-delay game complaint against the Cubs confirmed. Will play the makeup tommorrow at like 4? I think

Andrew McCutcheon returns for slumping Pirates. Many believe it will push them back into contention.

Nick Swisher done for season with knee surgery.

MFY encouraged by latest Tanaka session. We all know how horribly that organization is run. Having Tanaka who is phenomenal talent return this year is fucking stupid ( read: rushed ). Even if he did the odds the MFY even make the playoffs isn't worth "Chamberlaining" his career. I look forward to seeing him battle The King, Price, Darvish, etc. as an ace.

David Ortiz HR tied him with Ted Williams for most 30HR seasons in Red Sox history ( 8 ).

SF while they do have a viable argument about the delay, I found it funny Chicago Cubs GM Jed Hoyer also supported the Giants stance of a replay. The Cubs won ( rightly or wrongly ). Chicago is in a battle with Texas ( well behind ) to score the coveted #1 pick. Of course Hoyer wants a rematch. He has one more win on the record. I chuckle, because this is playing out, to me, as a Colts "suck for Luck" type of scenario.

Richards is going to be out 6 to 9 months.

Detroit better lock up Price. Both Lester and Scherzer are hitting free agency, now NYY will have to compete with Anaheim too.

*edit

Angels trade PTBNL or cash for White Sox 2B Gordon Beckham.

Speaking of Anaheim, their pitching staff was ranked #16. With the injury to Richards, LAAAAA'S staff is now ranked #30.

And yet, they'll still find ways to win, even when the offense is dogshit like it has been since the ASB. Richards goes down and they pony up for the win in that game, and then take the rest of the series (against an admittedly weak Sox team, that even gave Ortiz the night off in the last game).

They have a staff full of #3 starting pitchers right now, and LeBlanc will be the definition of a #5. This weekend against Oakland will tell us how the division will shake out.

Seattle isn't making the playoffs.

Edit: my bad, Seattle might make it as the second wild card.

On one of the baseball shows it shook down as this injury only costing Anaheim one win. I couldn't believe that myself. I thought the numbers would effect them more severly. The Ms are going to have to fight for the 2nd WC if they keep letting bad calls affect them, and lose to teams they should beat.

Boston won the Cuban defector Rusney Castillo sweepstakes with a record 7/72.5 deal.

25 yrs later and Pete Rose is still banned from baseball.
What a bunch of B.S.

Time for MLB to "get over it", do the right thing because the overwhelming majority of fans would welcome Pete Rose back into baseball.
Peter can do more for the game than McGwire, Bonds and Sosa combined.

According to reports Tanaka is nearing a rehab assignment.

I've stated this earlier and my feelings haven't changed. That org. is run by rich kids throwing a temper tantrum. A talent like Tanaka is too good be risked for a non-existent WS chance. I have never seen just rest work in fixing a shoulder tear, especially rest as short as a month.

The MFY are more than likely adding another 500m in age 30+ free agents this upcoming offseason ( Lester, Scherzer, + ). Wait until then and let us have the chance to see Tanaka battle The King, Price, and Sale.

I scored a Cano Show SI ( 03/31/14 ) from the Dr.'s office the other day. It had the predictions in it for the upcom8ng season. Some of these are so off it's hysterical.

AL East
1. Rays
2. Red Sox
3. MFY
4. Orioles
5. Blue Jays
AL Central
1. Tigers
2. Royals
3. Indians
4. White Sox
5. Twins
AL West
1. A's
2. Rangers
3. Angels
4. Mariners
5. Astros

The East is almost upside down, I highly underestimated how tough KC was going to be, and Seattle is a lot tougher than people give them credit for. Jack Z's 5 year plan is happening.

NL East
1. Nats
2. Braves
3. Mets
4. Phillies
5. Marlins
NL Central
1. Cardinals
2. Reds
3. Pirates
4. Brewers
5. Cubs
NL West
1. West Coast Yankees
2. Giants
3. Padres
4. Diamondbacks
5. Rockies

Miami is better than expected, apparently I'm not the only one who didn't see Milwaukie being so badass, and it's hard to count out LAD. SF always seems to heat up right about now, but the Dodgers are probably still taking the West.

The Royals added to their Central lead today with a 6-3 win over Texas and another Detroit loss.

Anaheim and Oakland are tied again in the West with Seattle 0.5 up on Detroit for the 2nd WC. Both Anaheim and Oakland pounding each other for the West ( 8 more games remaining against ) could set up an Ali's "rope a dope" in '74 scenario for Seattle. In a one game playoff with the King on the mound.

The Nats lit up Lincecum after SF snapped their 10 game win streak yesterday. They're still 7 up on ATL.

The Central is too close to predict. I didn't think in my craziest of thoughts Milwaukie would be as good as they are. Therefore I'm unqualified to even guess now.

The Wainwright/Kershaw Cy battle is going to be close.

This.
Some of us may have forgotten or choose not to remember just how much of a "Hypocrite" Bud Selig and MLB are when it comes to the Pete Rose case.
Back in '99 Pete was not allowed to attend the all century team ceremony in Boston. That was during the All-Star game.
Several months later there is another all century team ceremony during the WS in Atlanta.
There was Pete Rose. Receiving the loudest ovation of the night.
Now why were the rules broken on this given night?
Oh yeah, a major credit card company sponsored the event.
Bud easily accepted all the money the credit card company gave to MLB for this particular ceremony.
Thus, Pete Rose was allowed to attend and be on the field.
Interesting huh?
