On Derek Jeter Day, St. Louis padded their Central lead to 5 games with a 9-1 lead over Milwaukie. Wainwright ( whom I believe will win the NL Cy ) went 9IP 7H 1BB 1ER 3K.

NEW YORK -- Derek Jeter says he has not been told any details about Sunday's ceremonies for "Derek Jeter Day" at Yankee Stadium. He is not sure what time he is supposed to arrive or the guests who are coming. And he certainly has not thought about what the day will be like.

That is the unusual thing about being an active everyday player through this season-long retirement tour.

Special day! Season Long Retirement Tour! Why do Yankee players think they're KISS?
It's fucking ridiculous. And this is new with these assholes. This shit needs to stop. Funny, but not surprising how the Yankees are the only ones doing this.
You are all fools
Mariano Rivera-Only the greatest closer of all time. If anybody deserved a retirement tour from this era, Mo is the right choice.
Then a year later we have Jeter. Only 1 of the greatest Yankees of all time and probably the most respected player in the modern era.
Once again a no brainer to have a retirement tour.
Doesn't hurt the Yankees have won 27 titles. So the organization has a certain mystique that nobody else in baseball can touch.

I guess you all can look on the bright side. There is no current Yankee on the 2014 roster that is deserving of a farewell tour anytime soon.

So fucking what. Acknowledge their legacy, they don't need a season long blowjob because they wore pinstripes. Rivera is the greatest, so I get the extra attention. Jeter got a lot of hits.

He's not the greatest. He's not the greatest MFY ( counting pitchers too, he's not even top 10. ), fuck, he's never even been the best player in the league; much less his own team.
This shit is ridiculous. There's only 3 weeks left so we only have time for about 10 more Jeter ceremonies.

It is a bright side no more Yankees are retiring soon. Since they are the ONLY organization that does this. Have to divert attention from the fact that half a billion in free agency couldn't get a playoff spot.

Womp, womp.

King Felix 2014 ( so far ):
14-5 206IP 2.18ERA 9.13K/9 1.62BB/9 2.59FIP 2.58xFIP 5.5WAR

Justin Verlander 2011:
24-5 251IP 2.40ERA 8.96K/9 2.04BB/9 2.99FIP 3.13xFIP 6.9WAR

Take out the run support ( 9.8 per game ) and the numbers would possibly skew even more in the King's favor. I bring this up because Felix has a strong case for MVP.

Kershaw ( next to Stanton ) also has a strong case for MVP. If they both win, it would be the first time since 1968 two pitchers won ( McClain and Gibson ).

Thoughts?

Major League Baseball's 2015 season is scheduled to start with a Sunday night game on April 5 and the other 28 teams will be slated to open the following day.

The regular season is to end Oct. 4, which means the World Series would be scheduled to start Oct. 28 if the current postseason format is maintained. A seventh game would be Nov. 5 under that format.

The bastards in charge of this league still can not get the schedule correct.
The WS should conclude by Oct 28, not begin.

Could bring a meaning to Mr. November and more of a chance of some possible very cold games. Can't wait for a WS snow out and being forced to move the series to the closest dome. Not that the Rockies will be in soon but I've been in some white Halloween's in Denver.

Totally agree it should end on Oct 28, not begin.

L.A. slated for Interleague Play against AL West opponents next season.
The Dodgers will host Seattle from April 13-15, Texas from June 17-18 and Oakland from July 28-29. And the Dodgers will travel to Texas from June 15-16, Oakland from Aug. 18-19 and Houston from Aug. 21-23.

Felix vs Kershaw possibilities....

I like interleague, when I went to games it was the only times I got to see teams like Boston or Detroit. 90% of the games I caught was NL.

The bad part is the AL usually gets the better of the NL, the Dodgers don't normally do well with interleague.

Yesterday Sept 8th Kershaw wins his 18th, goes 8ip 1ER at only 89 pitches and Mattingly pulls him out when Kershaw wanted to finish the 9th for his 7 complete game. Matting gives him the best for the team speech and leaves him with 6 complete this year.

So I'm clicking around players and stats and noticed, Kershaw has more complete games this year then Brad Penny has in 14 years. and Derek Lowe has 10 in his 17 years.
In the age of the closer is crazy to think of a time when all pitchers finished their game. The write up had some good stats up their with Pedro.

Because he spent six weeks on the disabled list after opening the season with a win in Australia and won so many decisions since returning, Kershaw has a chance of joining Boston's Pedro Martinez in 1999 as the only pitchers since World War II with 20 wins accomplished in fewer than 30 starts.

At 24 games played he's got a good shot to be next to Pedro.

Kershaw 18W 3L 1.67ERA 6CG .082WHIP 10.66K/9 7.5WAR 7.78K/BB

Here's another Pedro/Kershaw comparison. Like Clayton Kershaw, Pedro threw a perfect game too that was null because of uncontrollable circumstances.

Kershaw's was lost because Hanley Ramirez has the defensive prowess of Derek Jeter. Pedro in 1995 retired the first 27 batters he faced. He was perfect through nine, but gave up a double in the 10th. The rules were changed in 1991 that the game has to be completed, so he's not credited with a perfect game.

I'll compare the two games box scores tomorrow.

I remember watching that Pedro game. I believe it was vs the Padres, or maybe the Dodgers. He was DOMINANT. Sick stuff. Maybe the best game I ever saw him pitch. LOVE Pedro.

I wanted to look at the stats between Petey and Clayton to see if anything was missed. I thought we would never see someone as dominate as a healthy Pedro Martinez again. I figured I would post the stats to prove it....and I was wrong.

On June 3, 1995 Pedro threw a perfect nine against the San Diego Padres. He gave up a double in the 10th and his perfecto was gone. Since he didn't complete the game, it wasn't recorded. These are the box scores:

9.2IP 1H 0BB 0R 9K 2.53ERA 1.53WPA

On June 18, 2014 against the Colorado Rockies Clayton threw this masterpiece:

9IP 0H 0BB 0R 1.67ERA -0.33WPA

That is unreal.

Clayton Kershaw ( current ) career winning pct. is 0.660
Pedro Martinez finished with 0.6865 for 2nd all time in modern baseball history ( Whitey Ford 0.6901 ).
Me again wrote:Jose Altuve collected his 200th tonight. First Astros player to do it since Biggio in 1998 and second overall.
The Astros are 21-17 their last 38 games. They've won series against TOR, TEX, MIN, BOS, MFY, CLE, OAK, LAAAAA, and SEA.

Since the ASB they've scored more runs per game than SEA, KC, CLE, BOS, CWS, MFY, TB, TEX. Ties with OAK and behind TOR and LAAAAA. With McHugh and Keuchel looking like legitimate frontline starters, they're not a laughing stock anymore.

For Luhnow's rebuild, it looks like it's going exactly as planned. Remember they also just added Nolan Ryan to the front office. Look no further than the Rangers recent successes to see what that dude is capable of.

Gincarlo Santon was carted off the field tonight. He got hit in the face by a pitch from Brewers starter Mike Friers. Stanton received a facial laceration, multiple facial fractures, and dental damage. He's going back to Miami tomorrow. No word on when or if he returns.

Hopefully this doesn't happen like Tony Conigliaro. His HBP ruined his career.

They've proven to be a resilient bunch, but it's a HUGE blow. Angels are on fire, and will likely play the wildcard. Baltimore will therefore play the Royals or Tigers, and minus a great hitter stand to suffer. It's a shame because they've had a great year. If I'm his teammate I have a huge problem with this.

Statement from Davis:
"I apologize to my teammates, coaches, the Orioles organization and especially the fans. I made a mistake by takingAdderall.
I had permission to use it in the past but do not have a therapeutic use exemption (TUE) this year. I accept my punishment"

Under the terms of MLB's drug agreement
first offense for a stimulant violation results in followup testing
A second violation brings a 25-game suspension
third offense results in an 80-game suspension.

When taking the drug in pill form it goes to the pre-frontal cortex, where it stimulates the parts of the brain that regulate focus and reasoning.
Perfect for that game of baseball, because baseball is a game where attention is at a premium. You have to be able to focus on the field for each pitch, even though nothing might happen that involves you for 10 minutes. That's rough. You have to be able to make split-second decisions about that fastball coming at you, and that's easier when the part of the brain that figures out patterns and plans a response is operating in high gear.

With Cain out and Lincecum relegated to bullpen duty, the Giants are getting key contributions from their entire staff, top to bottom. Yes, Bumgarner is leading, but Hudson and Peavy have provided great veteran presence, Vogelsong has been solid, Petit has been a revelation as a 5th starter. Jean Macchi solid in relief, and Casilla/Romo have morphed into a viable closing tandem.

Giants are one of the most well run teams in the majors. With Cain down for the year, and Pagan/Belt still out at that point they looked dead. They're quietly poised for a nice run now. Practically assured of the first wildcard spot and only a game behind LA for the division.

Bruce Bochy needs to be in the conversation for manager of the year.

I agree. The way he's run that team, they could win the whole thing if they make the postseason. I see them at least making it to the NLCS.

Speaking of the Giants, today in 1965 Willie Mays. Hit his 500th career HR. He was the fifth player to do it ( Ruth, Foxx, Ott, Williams ).

The playoff races are in full force. Seattle beat Oakland which puts them a half game behind them for the first wildcard and tied with KC for the second. KC is a half game behind Detroit after the Tigers beat them.
*King Felix pitches tonight

SF beat LA and is one game back in the Division ( +4 for the 1st WC ). Pitsburgh is 1.5 over Milwaukie for the 2nd.

Today in baseball history Ken Griffey Jr. and Ken Griffey Sr. become the first father soon teammates to hit back-to-back HRs in 1990.

The Pirates turned a 5-4-3 triple play against the Cubs.

Kershaw @ Petit 01:05PST ( SF beat Clayton 366 days ago 4-2. So he's been beaten.....once  ). SF 2 games back.

Lester @ Young 01:10PST Seattle 1.5 back.

Cleveland is currently up on Detroit and KC leads Boston. This season kicks ass.

*edit

Abreu hit his 35th HR tying White Sox rookie record set by Ron Kittle in 1983.
