White Sox acquire Jeff Samardwhatever for Marcus Semein and 2 prospects.
Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
Robertson wanted that Papelbon type money and he almost got it. I think the deal is for $1M less but still a lot of money for a closer.killeverything wrote:White Sox sign Robertson 4/40+.
Now the Yankees could either give the closer job to Betances or Miller or maybe they will have a bullpen by committee???
Sucks to see Robertson go but the guy priced himself out of range.

Cubs close to acquiring Miguel Montero from AZ for prospects.
Lester has multiple offers on the table in the 6-7 year range for 150-170m. Insiders believe SF is current favorite to land him.
Boston offers Masterson a multi year deal which leads me to believe they fell out of favor with Lester.

Liriano signs with Pirates for 3/39m. That's a good price for mid rotation pitcher.

Kill-Any chance the Giants balk at signing another high priced SP after their failure with Barry Zito?

If reports are true, why are the Dodgers so gung ho in getting
rid of Matt Kemp? To me, Kemp & Kershaw are two current Dodgers
that should retire as such.
If it wasn't for Kemp last year, the Dodgers would not have made
it to play offs. Last half of season Kemp was the only consistent
hitter.
Yeah, I understand he is owed a ton of money, but my first priority
would be to get rid of Either & Crawford, preferably Either.
I hate that guy.
If they do trade Kemp, they better get some good returns.

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
I doubt it. Zito's signing was stupid all around. The NL is a fastball league, Zito had one dominate season as curveball pitcher. The whole thing was destined to fail, but ended on an ironic note. Both Zito and Sandoval were off the postseason rosters in 2010 for ineffectiveness and weight ( Panda ). 2012 they were massive parts of the WS victory. Fuck, Panda was the MVPMachado wrote: Kill-Any chance the Giants balk at signing another high priced SP after their failure with Barry Zito?

Lester's track record and physical frame make him less risky of an investment going forward. SF has a lot of money that just practically quadrupled after the WS win and losing Panda. Reportedly they are all in on Lester and look to be the favorites currently.
The problem with Kemp was no matter how good he is ( and he is ), he's way overpaid and still a massive injury risk. He was an integral part of LAD's season last year, but he wasn't the "reason," so to speak. The Dodgers' success was practically strictly on Kershaw. Without getting into the semantics of "should a pitcher be eligible for MVP?" He was truly the most valueable player.Yeahbuddy wrote:If reports are true, why are the Dodgers so gung ho in getting

I don't see them being able to move him without covering the majority of his contract. Plus with questions of health, I don't see them getting a big return.
Eithier or Crawford?

Magic has them tied up into a lot of longterm contracts with players and practically no farm. It's going to take Friedman and Zaidi a longtime to change that. Especially for a team with a "win now" mentality.
Detroit now willing to go huge to keep Scherzer, and are reluctant to trade Price.
Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
You don't win in baseball without scoring runs. Kershaw was a stud, but if it wasn't for Kemp in the 2nd half of season, Dodgers do not make play offs pure & simple. So, you are telling me that Kershaw scored those runs himself? Where did I say Kemp was the mvp of the Dodgers? I didn't. You would have to live under a rock to not know it was Kershaw. The problem with Kemp was no matter how good he is ( and he is ), he's way overpaid and still a massive injury risk. Eithier or Crawford?Your kidding right? They HAD to take Crawford to get Gonzalez and Either has almost as many questions as Kemp.

What player isn't an injury risk? Kemp had a rough year or so of injuries, but seems to be healthy. Last year proved it. Yeah, he is owed a ton of money, but when he plays & is healthy is worth it.
You think Kemp is a salary dump? I think not. If so they would have given him away for a bag of beans already.
Eithier/Crawford- What are you talking about? No kidding! Kemp is by far a more valuable player. Of course I would try to get rid of them before Kemp.
No kidding, duh!! Where's the logic in that? Your comment adds nothing.
Dodgers farm system- Ahhh, the reason they want to get rid of a couple of outfielders & why they let H Ramirez walk is because they have minor leaguers ready or near ready for the bigs. They are itching to give that
Pedersen kid center field.
Magic owns maybe 10% of club. He didn't hand out those contracts. Most of those contracts were during the McCourt years. I have never been a big fan of Ned Colletti, and glad they kicked him upstairs. He gave out way too much money for players that were not worth it. And his bring ex Giant players onto the Dodgers because that is the organization he came from got old really quick.
Yeah, they have to do some cleaning, but what team doesn't year after year.
Other than that, your comments were nothing more but a bunch of generalizations that you probably got off of espn.com or some poorly
run baseball fan site.

Hey Sparky, Magic and crew were the ones that traded for Crawford, not McCourt. That's who they really want to get rid of. He missed 89 games in 2013, 56 in 2012 that's not a good sign and bigger than players with a clean bill of health.
I'm surprised you can't put that together. Wait, no I'm not. You really are that fucking stupid.

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
And then were two....again.
Jon Lester informs SF it's between Boston and Chicago. "We did not receive a rose" - Giants asst. mgr. Bobby Evans. Decision expected tonight. Lester also personally called Sabean, Bochy, and Posey to inform them they were out and thank them for their respect in the process. That was pretty classy IMO.
SF is currently trying to put together a package for Justin Upton and Chris Johnson. I ( and Atlanta reportedly ) don't think they have the pieces to pull it off.
If Lester's deal ( the superior pitcher IMO ) goes through, then it's easy to see Scherzer exceeding 200m. Shields, I have no idea, but expect both to sign quickly. SF should stay away from Scherzer IMO. That's going to be a massive war between Detroit and NYY.
Reds announce they'll listen to offers on Aroldis Chapman.
Baltimore and Philly discussing Byrd.

Lester to Cubs 6/155m. While I think it would have been cool to see basically a Panda/Lester swap, this is pretty cool too.
Chicago is finally looking like a force to be reckoned with. This should make JohnK and Leppardmania very happy.

You should feel how fans of other teams feel/have felt before. With the signing of Lester the Cubs WS odds are 12-1.
Houston Astros sign Luke Gregerson 3/18.5m and Pat Neshek 3/12.5m.
Sergio Romo in discussions with Detroit and SF. Romo want's a larger payday than he's worth ( rumored 3/21m ) for a set up guy, and Detroit and bullpens go together like Adrian Gonzalez and pennants. I expect them to massively overpay.
The big talk around the meetings is what the 2nd best FA pitcher Max Scherzer will command. The word is bidding starts at 200m. Geez.

Aside from the Vegas odds skewing heavily in their favor, sometimes adding a bonafide proven ace is all you really need. SF has been on a dynasty rampage with a pretty anemic offense, but they always have one pitcher that just completely dominates. For said ace to fail in the playoffs ( Lester in the 8th against KC [ pretty rare for him ], Kershaw turning into Arod in the post ) is usually unlikely.
Any deal with a 30 year old pitcher is 4 years. That's what you get, the extra years is just a hope. Financial restraints nowithstanding, any fucking team would like to add Lester to their rotation. Adding Jon Lester to the Cubs young team just made them a serious threat. That team's youngsters potential looks downright frightening. Epstein and Hoyer have done one helluva job. I wouldn't be surprised if their in the NLCS within' two years.
They also didn't just blow their load on Lester. They've added some serious pieces all around. This wasn't like Texas and Arod in 2000.
Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
Seems like every team will be forced to overpay for talent this off-season. Tons of money for that left arm.johnk5150 wrote:That's what worries me. Reports are the Giants offered 7 years, so take solace there is a crazier team in the league that was willing to sign Lester.
The Cubs are perennial losers. Losing games on top of spending all that money is a recipe for success. I KID I KID
Who knows, with Theo and Maddon leading the charge, the team might get to .500

As I stated above maybe his age 36-37 he's not a #1 anymore, but that's not what their expecting. Plus the only durability issues Lester has ever had was when he had lymphoma. This contract didn't just add a constraint to Chicago, if it did I see your point. I think this was good signing.
Scherzer for 200m+ then I would agree with you.

Aside from Lester, V-Mart, and Scherzer the talent this offseason is pretty impotent. Panda was going to be/was overpaid. The Cubs IMO scored THE best available FA, I'm a fan of V-Mart too. Also with the new tv contracts baseball has the money.

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
Going more into the specifics of Chicago's Jon Lester signing, I just looked into an analysis of his mechanics and their sustainability which certainly surfaced this season.

His strong season was likely attributed to his curveball release point. He adopted a more overtop release and considering he's only 30, that should continue for a while. As a player ages and the wear on his shoulder increases usually the release drops. However with Lester and his non reliance on his curve the predicted decline as he ages shouldn't be too deep.
All in all I think Lester looks to be a top of the rotation starter throughout his Chicago contract.
Current Trade Rumors:
LAD and Philly serious talks about Jimmy Rollins, who has said he would waive his NTC for LA.
Ruben Amaro Jr.'s retarded ass has realized teams with top talent in the farm aren't going to trade them basically under any circumstances ( Boston-Betts, LAD-Pederson, etc. ), and has eased off his trade asking price.
That said SF is looking to engage in serious talks to acquire Hammels. SF's farm isn't exactly barren, but it's not on the level of SF, ChiC, etc. They would probably have to trade their top 3 for Hammels. I would do that personally since Cole wouldn't be a rental.

Here we go. Sox are gonna go after all the leftovers.
Here comes the savior....James Shields!!!!
They are looking at Wade Miley.
Maybe they'll trade the farm for Hamels.
For the record, I'm glad they didn't sign Lester at that price.
Red Sox brass, there is no law that says you can't give the prospects a chance instead of only considering them as trade chips.

Red Sux, Yankees & Dodgers.
The last person I want to be pitching in Yankee Stadium is Romo. That floating slider of his and his below avg fastball is the last thing the team needs.

They tried to though. Lester didn't exactly go where he could've gotten the most money. All FA are pretty expensive this time, but I still believe Lester was worth the contract. I also believe the Red Sox FO are going to regret lowballing him ( 70m extension in ST ). That could be a very very good ( albeit expensive ) signing for the Cubs.Facedown wrote:For the record, I'm glad they didn't sign Lester at that price.

Phillies acquire LHP Antonio Bastardo from Phillies for miLB LHP Joely Rodriguez.
Marlins acquire Dee Gordon from LAD for top LHP Andrew Heaney.
The word is the Dodgers are about to go on an offseason rampage. Friedman at the helm is terrifying for the rest of the NL.
*edit
It's apparently not as Gordon for Heaney as thought.
LAD trades Gordon and Haren for Heaney, Kike Hernandez, Austin Barnes, and Chris Hatcher.
Here's the deal though. Haren has threatened to retire if he's traded to anywhere but LAAAA ( still funny, Tinn ). That's some cold-blooded shit. Friedman is wheeling and dealing.

Boston has an agreement in principle to trade De La Rosa, Webster, and a minor leaguer for Wade Miley with AZ.

Dodgers and Brandon McCarthy. Reportedly close to 4 year deal. Friedman has made 9 trades in 25 days so far.
Nats and Mariners discussing Ian Desmond trade.
*edit 2
Holy shit!
LAD sends A. Heany acquired earlier from Miami to LAA for Howie Kendrick. Andrew Friedman ain't fuckin' round.

It looks like Matt Kemp and catcher Tim frederwicz to Padres for Yasmany Grandal, Joe Weiland and a 3rd player. LAD to cover about 30m of Kemp's remaining 170m. Not confirmed.
The big rumor right now is a 3 team trade is in the works to send Hammel to LAD too.
Jebus.
