Jebus.
I hate the Dodgers but I gotta tip my cap to Friedman. Dude is pulling off some insane deals. That said, I like the trade with the Angels. Howie has one year left on his current contract and the Angels were probably going with the Cuban Baldwin they signed, and they got a top pitching prospect for him. 2B is now a big hole, though. Rutledge is no solution and Green ain't gonna replace Howie.
Man, I love this. The hot stove is exploding and it seems like every few minutes there's another deal being made. Fuck yeah.

Cashman has remained quiet at the meetings and the Cubs signed the top FA available. I expect both the MFY and Detroit to go nuclear on their bidding. NY has deep pockets and Detroit is owned by a billionaire who is not afraid to spend.tin00can wrote:killeverything wrote:Yoenis Cespedes to Detroit for Rick Porcello.

When he/Boras said he wanted $200 million, I thought he was high. With what you said in mind though...he'll probably get that or close to it. The Yankees need something. Right now they don't have much of anything.
Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
Rumor is there were a few prospects from Boston in the Porcello trade, and that Detroit is gonna flip them to the Reds for one of their pitchers.

I think they'll go hard after Scherzer since I don't believe Tanaka won't end up needing Tommy John.Tin00can wrote:When he/Boras said he wanted $200 million, I thought he was high. Behind Buchholz ( one day he's a King Felix and the next a Jeff Weaver ), Boston doesn't have anyone either.
I think most teams are standing pat since the FA pitching class next season is so deep. The trades are mind blowing so far and if LAD gets Hammels, that's insane.
Kershaw, Greinke, Hammels, Ryu, Anyone else doesn't matter. Good Lord.
Matt Latos is available.tin00can wrote:Rumor is there were a few prospects from Boston in the Porcello trade, and that Detroit is gonna flip them to the Reds for one of their pitchers.
*Breaking news
Miami and Cincy close to a deal involving.....wait for it....Mat Latos.

Holy shitballs, the last 12 hours or so have been awesome.
Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
That is a lot of years for a SP that has pitched more than 170 innings just once. Sure he had a great run with the Yankees last season, but damn if this is NOT the era for overpaying. WOW!!!killeverything wrote: Dodgers and Brandon McCarthy. Reportedly close to 4 year deal. Friedman has made 9 trades in 25 days so far.

Yankees had some interest is signing him but I'm glad the team did not offer those 4 years.

I hear the Padres are already planning Matt Kemp bobblehead day. No word on if the bobblehead will be wearing a Dodgers uniform.

Dave Dombowski say's Tigers are officially out of the Scherzer negotiations. Scherzer seeks 200m +
King Felix, he ain't.
I'm really hoping no one gives him anything remotely close to that. Think Arod and Boras with the great NY opt out.

Haren should retire. Playing for the Marlins will not be fun for 6 months. That team is going nowhere with that $300M player they have on the roster.killeverything wrote:
LAD trades Gordon and Haren for Heaney, Kike Hernandez, Austin Barnes, and Chris Hatcher.
Here's the deal though. Haren has threatened to retire if he's traded to anywhere but LAAAA ( still funny, Tinn ). That's some cold-blooded shit. Friedman is wheeling and dealing.

In all fairness they've done pretty good with their draft. In fact I remember them kicking the shit out of your Yankees and their 200m dollar players in 2003.Machado wrote:Haren should retire. 3 prospects for Miley and Cespedes and 2 prospects for Porcello.
Over/Under on prospects for Hamels? 5
Masterson at 9.5mil. Pretty high price for a righty specialist reliever since he can't get lefties out.

With Illich and Dombrowski's announcement they're out on Scherzer and LAD's announcement they're not going to trade for Hammels probably leaves Boston and Detroit battling to land him.Facedown wrote:3 prospects for Miley and Cespedes and 2 prospects for Porcello.

Amaro Jr. is a fucking retard and he's going to hold on to Hammels like, well, a retard with Play-Doh.
Hammels isn't a rental and I believe is probably worth giving up a lot of the farm for. Scherzer's massive price tag, Shields, or Hammels are really the only top of the rotation starters available. Really though James Shields on a good rotation is a 2 or 3.
Next to Jon Lester, this year's FA class sucked. Although it would be a good time to be one. Hit .270 and get paid like .300 hitter. Imagine all the food he can buy now.

He wants to play on the west coast. I wouldn't mind seeing him back on the Angels as the #5 starter/depth but that won't happen.Machado wrote:Haren should retire. One rumor is that the Phillies traded Rollins to make room for Bogaerts.
Sports radio talk: Trade Miley, one of the million outfielders and a prospect for Zimmerman.

James Shields predicted to sign with SF.

I can envision Shields getting a lot of wins at that park. He's a far better pitcher compared to Timmy.killeverything wrote:Seattle offers Melky Cabrera 3 year deal. He's holding out for four.

That being said, can we stop calling him James "Big Game" Shields already. Never has a MLB player not earned such a nickname.

I really think the Tigers are not going to sign Scherzer, he's now claiming to want like 8 years and $235, which for Detroit isn't happening.
In the span of 5 days, they were able to land 4 pitchers, and an OF, They'll be fine I think. They still need another closer, and maybe 1 more lefty bat.

Well, technically it's true. He has pitched some big games. DS, CS, and WS. So he was in a "Big Game." His nickname also doesn't imply he was any good at it.Machado wrote:I can envision Shields getting a lot of wins at that park. I kind of think that their not either. Especially since their GM said they weren't.Lemmysmole wrote:killeverything wrote:With Illich and Dombrowski's announcement they're out on Scherzer and LAD's announcement they're not going to trade for Hammels probably leaves Boston and Detroit battling to land him.

Never believe anything a GM says. Unless it's Amaro and what he said was incredibly stupid - in that case, take it to the bank.
That said, it does look like Detroit is set on pitching. Scherzer's market is drying up fast. He'll still get signed, but I don't think he's gonna get the $200 million he's hoping for.

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
MFY sign Headly 4/52m. Either he turned down 13m or his 4/65m "offer" was bullshit.
Nats agree to 2/7.5m with Harper avoiding arbitration. Imagine what that motherfucker is going to get when he can hit free agency.
Rangers sign Fukijima to one year deal worth one million. Now we see if Mike Maddux can fix him.
Cashman still says the MFY are out on Scherzer. So LAAAAA's out, LAD's out, Boston? They're out too, Detroit won't pay that much, the Cubs got the BEST PITCHER AVAILABLE, Seattle doesn't need him, and San Francisco seems uninterested. He want's 200 million, like Headley was offered 4/65
If he has to sign somewhere for like 140 this will be a colossal fuck up for Boras. Yeah, Max Scherzer deserves more than King Felix. Cracka, please.

KC Royals and Alex Rios agree to 1/11m deal.
Cubs sign Jason Motte to a one year deal. I'm not sure the details, but it's a pretty high reward if that guy can regain some of his form from '12.
LAD signs Brett Anderson to a 1/10m deal with the potential to earn an extra 4m in incentives.
I know everyone's all talking about Chicago's ( both of them ) changes and they both look good, but Friedman is like a fat kid in the buffet line since he took that job. He's making the Dodgers scary for the long haul.
