The New York Knicks are the worst team in the NBA, so I guess it's appropriate that their head coach talked to them like he was coaching some high school team in a cornball movie on Friday.
"Just relax," Fisher said during a timeout in a moment broadcast on national TV. "It's basketball. All the rules of the game are the same. The basket's the same height. They put their shorts on the same way you put yours on. It don't matter who it is over there. Believe in who you are. You can play the game."
Fisher probably saw that his team was lacking confidence, and it was obvious that New York was severely outmatched against the Houston Rockets. After loss after loss, he's probably already used his better motivational speeches. Nothing he was going to say was going to make a difference. Still, this is a little embarrassing for a group of professional athletes.
Houston won 120-96. The Knicks are 5-34 on the season.
