Re: The NFL Thread
So Jerry Rice, who said the deflation of footballs put an asterix next to the Pats' title has also admitted to using stickum - which was against the rules and as far as I can figure was used to gain exactly the same sort of edge a slightly deflated ball might provide.
Now the Patriots were caught cheating and should be penalised somehow, sure. But the longer this goes on the less moral highground everybody else seems to have. It's just not that big of a deal.

You're right and I'm just rambling the obvious.....
It's drilled in your head from day one the major reason Basic Rugby Tackles are frowned upon is taking your head and eyes off the ball.
You know Rugby players drop their head, plant the shoulder, wrap the legs and plant the runner......You see that in every NFL game but mostly if the ball carrier don't have a head start, a lineman tackle.
Now try that in the open field with a RB or WR who has open space and you're juked or stiff armed into the ground.
In football you're taught to see what you hit....Stick your chin in your chest with your head back, put your face mask on the ball and see what you hit all the way through the target. If you drop your shoulder early you miss the tackle....Easy enough.
Dropping a shoulder, wrapping the legs and tackling through your target is all the same principle as Rugby.
Now DB's....Not all but some of the pure Corner Backs can't tackle for shit, they're paid to cover, not built to tackle and too expensive to get hurt. That's what Safety's, LB, other DB's and Lineman are paid for. If everyone holds their assignment the job is done. Deion Sanders is the prime example who made the hall of fame and tackled like a kicker.
To me, Rugby is like 30 guys in a group of ground pounding tank fighting while the NFL has trench warfare too spread things out, find the open field and hit the speed.
Is there a Rugby channel on Dish or anyone watch it? I'd like to catch more matches.

Sad to hear the news that another former NFL player is suffering from CTE
Hall of Fame running back Tony Dorsett, who was diagnosed with having signs of chronic traumatic encephalopathy in 2013, said he is "in a battle" and that he had no idea "that the end was going to be like this."
CTE is a degenerative condition many scientists say is caused by head trauma and is linked to depression and dementia. It is indicated by a buildup of tau, an abnormal protein that strangles brain cells in areas that control memory, emotions and other functions.
Dorsett was diagnosed along with Joe DeLamielleure and Leonard Marshall in November 2013 after undergoing brain scans and clinical evaluations at UCLA.
"I signed up for this when, I guess, I started playing football so many years ago," Dorsett told 1310 The Ticket in Dallas. "But, obviously, not knowing that the end was going to be like this. But I love the game. The game was good to me. It's just unfortunate that I'm going through what I'm going through.
"I'm in the fight, man. I'm not just laying around letting this overtake me. I'm fighting. I'm in the battle. I'm hoping we can reverse this thing somehow."

I think it's interesting how they don't spend much time talking about the dangers of concussions in proportion to the amount of time they spent showing segments like jacked up and putting out videos of guys getting crushed. The last few years have made me decide that I won't ever allow my son to play football. As much as I love watching it I couldn't let my kid play.eddie lee roth wrote:Without naming any names I think it's stories like Dorsett, Jim McMahon and even worse Seau that I'd like to point to whenever they bring up the game is changing the NFL is a pussy league blah blah blah.

Re: The NFL Thread
Fat idiots like Neversurrender who have never played the game are OUTRAGED that they've changed the rules.
You'd have to be a fucking savage at this point not to wince when watching old NFL highlights. I just watched highlights of the Redskins 1991 season...every fucking play is a horse collar, helmet to helmet, late hit, you name it. And no flags, anywhere.
I don't care WHY they have done it, but clearly they've made astounding progress in a very short amount of time. It's not just window-dressing, the rule changes have made the game safer when it comes to brain damage and concussions.
If mouth breathers like Fat Truther can't take it why don't they watch some other sport instead of whining about how pussy vagina tampon the NFL has become. I still love watching football and somehow the fact that I'm not seeing hits that could potentially result in devastating brain injuries on every single play isn't hurting my enjoyment of it.

Machado's favorite Cowboy Michael Sam has been announced as a contestant on the next season of Dancing With The Stars.
I think he'll do great myself nothing screams GAY GAY GAY GAY as much as shiny outfits and ballroom dancing. Except maybe male figure skating.

The amount of times you see a pass out to the flats with the corner a couple of strides off the receiver, and he gets there right after the catch is made so the receiver hasn't got going yet. But somehow he gets shrugged off and yards are gained. I hear what your saying about assignments, but if the defense is in containment trying not to give up big yards, then letting them make the catch but taking him down instantly is a good play, not a blown assignment. It's just annoying to see.
BTW, Fox Soccer Plus channel shows Rugby League, but I think you have to pay extra for it. Might be better off finding a stream for it.

Probably not a big deal though, you know how rumors are. I'm sure the Cowboys will do just fine without him if it's true.

$26 million for one year is way too much.
I can't disagree with you more about him being a headcase. Guy plays all out every down. There is worse going on in the pileups than he's done on the field. I'm not agreeing with the stomp a few years ago, but the rest is horseshit. Every single team in the league would want him on their roster.

He's a beast and does go balls out.. The problem is, which I am sure you already know, is he has been caught too many times.
And, the last issue he was involved with Aaron Rodgers, was total chickenshit. He knew what he was doing..
He's got to do better at hiding it, LOL, if he is going to be that kind of player.. Which, IMO, he doesn't need to be.. Dude takes over games with his play.
It's a sorry situation that all his good playing will be overshadowed by the dumbass shit he has done.

Signing Suh will be a disaster for whatever team does it, unless it's an "all-in for this season" kind of thing.
That's WAY too much money to invest in one position, one player. It's the kind of signing that simply makes no sense in the salary cap era.
And right or wrong the guy has a target on his head and every game is risking suspension just by walking on the field.
He's no Hayensworth but it's easy to see the parallels.
