Re: The official NHL thread
If I'm a Bruins fan, I'm not so sure I like the choice of Sweeney. For years and years the B's had ex-B's at the helm and they never won. The most success they had since the 70's is when they went outside the old boys network to get Chiarelli. IMO they should have gone that same route.
As for the Leafs, great they got their man, but unless he's bringing Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Kronwall, and the Wings' farm system with him, he has his work cut out for him. Apparently he felt a sense of duty to raise the bar for coaches' salaries. He certainly did that. 6.25 million per year! Talk about a pressure cooker!

Re: The official NHL thread
Great fun game between Rangers and Tampa last night. Probably my favourite game of the playoffs.
Really didn't think Babcock would go to Toronto.
I also don't think it is a great move for Toronto. They should have gone through a proper rebuild, and tanked for the next couple of seasons, then got a good coach. This move will probably keep them in mid-table mediocrity.

It was a great game, didn't dig the outcome much. Tonight's 5-1 game was much better tho! Fuck I hate the Bolts, you have have them up against the ropes then they hit another gear and the pucks start flying.pieceofme wrote:Great fun game between Rangers and Tampa last night. Tonight's game was out of the norm....Nash, St. Louis and Yandle....The guys that need to step up...DID! It's official Nash got not one but two goals and in a playoff game! I hope it's not a fluke, no jinx.
I picked the Ducks vs Bolts but praying for Hawks vs Rangers. Rangers sweep of course and world peace follows.

Re: The official NHL thread
For anybody that missed the Hawks game last night here is what happened: we kept losing the puck at center ice, Ducks would gain control and score. All 5 of their goals were off the exact same play. Stupid Hawks.

Re: The official NHL thread
Good luck to the Bolts, I picked the Bolts vs Ducks in the beginning so if they take it tonight best of luck to them, they're a good team.

I didn't. Great game. I'll say it again but these conference finals have been great.Anne_Thrax wrote:For anybody that missed the Hawks game last night here is what happened: we kept losing the puck at center ice, Ducks would gain control and score. Was looking forward to a NYR/Chicago, Original Six final. Tampa/Anaheim... not one for the purists, but it should be great if it materializes.

Re: The official NHL thread
The first choice was Jeff Gorton but Glen Sather declined the B's interview request. Gorton had more to do with the B's championship as assistant GM and intermim GM than Chia including Chara and Rask deals. He was also a part of the Bergeron, Krecji and Lucic drafts and the Thomas signing. Sweeney was supposedly the only one in the front office against the Seguin and Boychuk trades, so I'm willing to give him a shot.WOLF wrote:If I'm a Bruins fan, I'm not so sure I like the choice of Sweeney. Re: The official NHL thread
Nothing like being a fan and watching the entire season end one period away from the finals. Even saying the Rangers didn't want to face the Bolts before the playoffs don't help but it was a good run.
Good luck Bolt's and congratulations to their fans, they was the better team and I'm kind of surprised the Rangers took it to 7 games. I hope it's the Ducks other wise I doubt I'll pay much attention.
I expect the Hawks vs Ducks game 7 to be a good one.

Getting a bit sick of Chicago, but don't really want Tampa to win it all either.
Just going to wait for draft day now.

If you watched the Ducks through the playoffs, they were a force, no doubt. They choked, period. Third year in a row that they couldn't step up on the big stage.johnk5150 wrote:

Not taking anything away from the Hawks or even Kings from last year. Game 7s can be a roll of the dice, but to get blown out of the water is an epic fail.

I still can't believe they choked like that..up until Game 6, they had lost 3 games so far in 3 rounds and all were in OT..hats off to the Hawks though.

Re: The official NHL thread
Habs sign Jeff Petry. 6 years/33 million. Cap hit of 5.5.
He was amazing in the playoffs for the Habs. Moved the puck calmly and cooly, put up points, played better defensively than advertised.
He'll eventually replace Markov, and will be an excellent 3 for now.
There are few right hand shot D-men on the free agent market this summer. He would have got ridiculous offers on July 1. Good on him for cutting a deal with his heart, as opposed to just his wallet.
Love this signing.

A little overpriced but a good signing. Edmonton's loss is Montreal's gain.WOLF wrote:Habs sign Jeff Petry. 6 years/33 million. Cap hit of 5.5.

Re: The official NHL thread
are you kidding, we got a 2nd rounder and a 4th for him...a 4th!!! I kid...ya, I liked Petry, wish we could have kept him, I don't think he's worth $5.5 Million ( I was thinking at most $4.5 ) but in today's market players are getting paid and sometimes overpaid, he was probably Montreal's best Dman in the last 2-3 months going into the playoffs, we'll see how he handles himself now over the next few years to justify his contract, good for him though and in the end it's not my money so who carespieceofme wrote:A little overpriced but a good signing. Re: The official NHL thread
Dear Tampa,
You can try to keep Blackhawks fans out of your building by limiting ticket sales to Florida zip codes only. Know this. We travel well. Don't live on limited incomes like a lot of your states retired residents. We will be there in droves. You are not ready for what is about to happen to your city.
