I've heard rumors that they'd offer Castro, McKinney, Almora, and Edwards in return for Ross and Kimbrel. Don't know how valid that is, but I would do that one in a heartbeat if I were the Cubs...

Astros acquire Gomez and Fiers from Brewers.
Reds put Jay Bruce on the trade block.
Acquire, acquire, acquire. I'm getting sick of using that word. Who wants to buy Killeverything a thesaurus?

SF acquires Mike Leake from Cincinnati for 2 prospects INF Adam Duvall and RHP Keury Mella. That looks like a good pickup, bandbox to pitcher's park, great defense, great team, no draft pick attached.
The price is steep though Duvall is a below average 3B that leads AAA in HRs ( 26 ) and Mella is a top pitching prospect. I'm not sure I would have moved Mella, I know one thing though. The Louisville Bats are going to be good next year.

Hey, what happened in the 7th yesterday "Wednesday"? Did you watch the game? LAD had to stop it from becoming a 4 game skid after Gray blanked them on Tuesday.....3H 1BB 9SO = 2-0 ouch, must have been under a 2 hour game.
Dodgers finally dropped Joc out of the lead off spot in game 2, he went 0 for 8 with 6SO in those two A's games.

Fat Panda pulled for dehydration.
CC Sabbathia sent to hospital for dehydration.
You are a major league ball player. You probably can't walk 10 feet without seeing a Gatorade dispenser. If you're fat, drink your damn electrolytes.

That's a good pick up, I was looking at Leake as a good fit for LAD, one thing about all these not named Cueto, Price or Hamels are pitchers moving to pitching park like Dodger Stadium or AT&T.
I still must be missing something because I never thought Hamel's was considered a top 10 pitcher, some saying between 6 to 10. Shows how much I know or I was reading a biased story.

What sites do you guys regularly hit for info and stuff?
Bleachers - I like the writers but the site isn't the best to navigate and glitchy.
ESPN - can fuck off with their "Inside Information", I hardly go there anymore. I find myself disagreeing with some of their story's a predictions.
MLB - has made some changes in the last day or two.
TSN - is getting a little better, I like it for Hockey and CFL
Fan Graphs - I'm new to it but it's full of stats.

Watched this great clip a several times today. I wished I could make a GIF of the last slo-mo replay from behind showing the catcher Ellis running to cover first to make the catch and tag out Pollock at 1st......

Every game I'd drink a lot leading up to the start, almost to the uncomfortable take a piss stage knowing I'd sweat it out quickly then constantly stabilize from there depending on how much I sweat. And I'm not a professional with a hundred free bottles laying around.
Being pulled for dehydration should be a fine. Those guys probably need a class. OK you guys are fat, it's hot and you're running/hobbling a lot and sweating out fluids. Drinks are free so drink up, sweat is good, not drinking is bad!

Those are the best for sabermetric/total nerd related stuff. Sbnation has some good team sites. Such as Lookoutlanding for the Seattle Mariners has some really good writers.
Mostly though some teams have some really good fan run sites. Nyyfans used to be pretty good, but it started going downhill a few years back and the good ones defected to sonsofsamhorn ( a BoSox site ).
SOSH actually had a poster hired by the FO as an analyst after seeing his postings. He was never a part of any decisions he said, but how cool is that? This is like the fat kid from Superbad in Moneyball kind of shit.
If you want the super analytical side ( writers ) look for anything Bill James, John Dewan ( was able to prove Jeter got to less ball hit to him than any other SS in baseball ),Jeff Sulivan, Will Carrol, etc.
There's a few more I really dig, but can't think of it off the top of my head currently.

Holy shit. NYY and SD worked all night to make Craig Kimbrel a Yankee.

It might be a mistake. One report said it was done. Houston's still in play since NY won't include any of their top prospects. They're also one of five teams aggressively after Chapman.

Jonathan Broxton to St. Louis.
Mark Lowe to Toronto.
Ben Revere is going too.
Kevin Jepsen to Minnesota.
The Rockies have told teams they'll explore a Carlos Gonzalez trade at a later date.
That's all I know of ATM.
Tim Hudson to 15 day DL.
AJ Burnett on 15 day DL.
CJ Wilson to 15? day DL.

Some more minor deals. Today was pretty uneventful compared to the rest of the week.
Abraham Almonte to the Padres.
Sam Dyson to Texas.
Tomas Telis and Cody Edge to Florida.
Tommy Hunter and Junior Lake to Cubs.
Jose Tabata for Micheal Morse. Pittsburgh/LAD.
The MFY offered Jorge Maeto, take back Gyorko and the entire salary for Craig Kimbrel. Preller still believes the Padres have a shot at the postseason...and a collective laugh reverberated throughout mlb.
The Rangers from 2 decent catching prospects to zero. Kinda funky when their catchers aren't below 31 years of age. Is GW Bush owning the team again?

Taijuan Walker had a 1H 11K night. Making him the third Mariners pitcher ( behind Randy Johnson and King Felix ) to accomplish the feat.

Reading the book Mickey and Wilie by Allen Barra. If the Red Sox weren't so racist regarding Mays and so cheap regarding Mantle, the Sox could have had an outfield of Mays, Mantle and Williams.

I haven't read that one yet. I'm currently reading Mays' autobiography. I've heard of Boston's potential OF. Which is a funny dilemma to have. Who plays RF?johnk5150 wrote:Reading the book Mickey and Wilie by Allen Barra. Williams was known for a lot of things, defense isn't one of them and Fenway has such a wacky OF. Right field is difficult to play. So you have two of the greatest centerfielders of all time on one team.
It's debatable that Mays is the greatest of all time. In that era too ( no Bonds, or Griffey Jr. ) Dimaggio ( Willie's hero ) and Mantle round out #2 and 3. Except Mays could play all OF positions and started out doing that with the Birmingham Barons ( Negro Leagues ). When he went to the Minneapolis Millers ( Giants minor league team ) they played him in center, and after he was called up in a game against Philly, Durocher had him batting 3rd and playing center.
So who would it be Mantle or Mays? The spacious center or sharp corners right with the zero foul ball territory. I wonder whom would patrol right better. We know Willie was a better CF, but not by much. Would he have been a better RF too?
I wonder how Mantle's alcoholism would have fared. Both Ted and Wilie didn't drink.

CJ Wilson needs surgery. Likely done for the year.
Clayton Kershaw Ks Mike Trout on a fat curveball. This is the first time two reigning MVPs faced each other.

Great game so far, what do you think of the home plate ump?

Turned over in the 2nd and been in and out a couple times. Did I miss an awesome Kendrick DB? Caught a glimpse of glove flip DB not sure if it was this game or a replay from another. ***Edit It was a glove flip for a force out***
Caught Claytons 1 to 3 DP and Scioscia taking the long walk, it's weird seeing Scioscia after watching him for so many years growing up with his carpet sized chest protector.
The ump made up his own interesting strike zone, like a moving square.
------------------------
Dodgers 3 Angels 1 F
Kershaw (w) 8IP 2H 0ER 1BB 7SO
Heaney (L) 5.1IP 4H 2ER 2BB 3SO
Clayton Kershaw extending his scoreless innings streak to 37
Trout 0-4 2SO
Rookie Heaney looked good for 5 innings in his first loss 5W-1L. Heaney was AcQueered by the Dodgers from Miami last winter and flipped to the Angels for Kendrick.
Heaney was down here getting rocked in AAA Salt Lake, 4.71ERA .298BA then gets called up and goes 5-0 now 5-1 1.97ERA .205BA in the pros.
Van Slyke sac fly takes Heaney out of the game. 1-0
Grandal rocks a 2R HR off the reliever 3-0
Jensen - SO Trout and got the save but 2H 1ER 1BB 2SO in the 9th....After giving up a HR then a HB in yesterdays save.
They say he's fighting a virus but Jensen's ERA has been climbing steadily for a month now.
I still can't get over Scioscia reminding me of those old rippled car seat chest protectors. He wore the long ones and switched to the short ones that looked like a baby bib. He was a favorite for many years.

I didn't catch any of it. I just got the updates.
Apparently things are looking up in beantown. Larry Lucchino ( CEO & Chief Of Baseball Operations ) will be gone at the endbof season. The big argument was it was Lucchino that turned them into NYY Jr.
Remember under Epstein, Hoyer, and Cherington they built a "100 million dollar player development machine." After the Fat Panda 5/95, Porcello, and Hanley signings I figured Henry had had enough. There's only like for more years on Sandoval's contract....

More fun Clayton Kershaw facts. Kershaw struck out 45 and walked 2 in July. Yes, you read that right.
Several LAAAA teammates are skeptical of Wilson's injury. Knowing he wants out, has 1 year left on his contract, and decided against surgery in the offseason. They think he could continue to pitch. Los Angeles Angels Of Anaheim....90210.

With this big concern about CTE and players health combined with today's players in it for the money and bling, faking it is starting to spread, it was noticeable over the last couple years in football. I think the Giants released a player who wanted to milk the bench, so he took his waver money and left. Players being cleared then getting 2nd and 3rd opinions.killeverything wrote:More fun Clayton Kershaw facts. Kershaw struck out 45 and walked 2 in July. Yes, you read that right.

I'd play with my head turned backwards. Picture keeping guys like Pedro, Dykstra, Kruk, Ty Cobb or Bench off the field then look at players like Wilson. Kirk Gibson would know about stepping up to the plate hurting.
Remember Ted Williams turned down his contract money for a down year?
"In 1960 ted was offered $125,000 from the sox (the same as he made in 1959) but he turned it down saying he "wanted the biggest pay cut in baseball history"
I had an injured month on a job a few years ago, at the end of the month I told him to take 30% off and put it back into the company.
I respected Peyton and Brady for taking cuts to help the team sign players and get under the cap. Then there's the 99.9% rest of the players in the league who sign a contract then hold out with years remaining. Different era's.....
Clayton Shouldn't have walked that batter today, Jusssst a bit out side. That was the worst ump of the year, the ball that Heaney threw that got Scioscia kicked out of the game practically ate the plate. One thing I will say, I don't know who LAAAAA's catcher is but he don't frame a pitch worth the fuck. It's was a dead strike even with an ugly frame. Even the announcers were confused.
On a full count Puig took a 3rd strike and a stepped towards the dugout.....Ohhhh BALL 4? OK!
Clayton took a shoestring ball called a strike out but clearly no argument from a pitcher because he want's that pitch on his end. It was ugly.
I hope MLB reviews these guys, I don't want to see that ump in the playoff's or World Series. I want to see, Home plate umpire Chris Segal sent to the minors for assignment.

As for '98, no one was stopping that team. Plus, basically everyone that was there went on to greener pastures. The FO became the Henry, Werner, Luchhino, Epstein 2004 to current Red Sox. The coach was Bruce Bochy.....he's doing kind of alright with his career now too.

The umpires are a union, just like the players. They suck like almost all unions do. On the request of George Steinbrenner, Arod couldn't rework his contract ( that was a blessing ), but then they turn around and expect players to rework it for them.
The Umpire's Union is fighting hard to keep from having their incompetencies questioned. It's a system run on seniority and not skill.
I don't know if CJ's hurt. I know Schilling called out Scott Williamson in 2005 for it. Williamson ended up actually needing surgery.....and unless he's on the mound in a game you HAVE to win, Schill needs to shut the fuck up. I kind of hope he does need surgery. It would be a big middle finger to his "teammate/s."

When Ted Williams requested the paycut after his 1959 season in which he, for the first time in his career hit below .300 ( .254 ).
Williams felt he didn't earn his salary. He played his last season in 1960, where he hit .316 including a HR in his final at bat.
While seeing Tony Gwynn and Miguel Cabrera was and is amazing, we'll never see something like this again.

Just doing a flyby to say that it's August and the Astros still don't suck. My baseball spirit is well on its way to being restored. The last decade or so has been pretty damn miserable.

Luhnow has built that team to be a WS/or at least Division contender throughout the rest of the decade. So far it's impressive as hell.bane wrote:Just doing a flyby to say that it's August and the Astros still don't suck. My baseball spirit is well on its way to being restored. Price and Cole were the sexy names, but as I said before I would have spent more of an effort trying to land Latos. He's cheaper and impressed in his LAD debut. Only 1K, 1BB, 4H, 1ER, 6IP. He has a 44/10 K/BB rate since his return from a leg injury. That was the pitching pickup IMO.

Cole or Price would have made LAD's top 3 insane but you sold me on Latos at least you called it including the cost and that Price is a rental.killeverything wrote:Price and Cole were the sexy names, but as I said before I would have spent more of an effort trying to land Latos. Latos did well in his debut, Jim Johnson relief debut 1IP 1HR and 2SO.
But LAAAA came back to make it a game......Normally LAD get's kicked around in interleague and vs LAAAA. This sweep of the Freeway Series came just in time. I guess LAD holds onto the division for a bit longer, .5 was close.
Angels 3
Dodgers 5
Joc Peterson 0-4 3SO
Andre Ethier with a go-ahead homer in the 8th, and then tops it off with a clutch walk-off homer in the 10th

Ethiers HR in the 8th was the first HR LAAAA's Joe Smith's given up all year. 45G 43IP

NL East - I don't get it. I figured the Nat's would be a better team but the Met's to tie up the division. Interesting. I know both teams filled some holes but I haven't looked at the overall. I still don't see a WC coming out of the division. The Fish are only 12 games back, I'd like them to catch Atlanta. 3RD place FISH!

Who is truly the NL Rookie Of The Year?Joc Peterson 0-4 3SO
These were the 2 frontrunners:
Dodgers' Joc Peterson: .223 BA, 21 HRs, 43 RBI, 128 SO..........OUCH!
Cubs' Kris Bryant: .246 BA, 14 HRs, 61 RBI, 126 SO...........OUCH!
Please tell me there is someone more deserving than these underperforming phenoms.

RambOWNED!!!
Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
Royals participated in another "baseball brawl" yesterday vs Jays.
Will someone please tell the Royals that getting to the world series(and losing) does not mean you are the bad boys of MLB.
The entire team walks around like they accomplished something. All 25 of them and their manager.
Win a WS or two and then you can patrol the fields like the tough guys they aspire to be.
HATE 'EM!!!
