Unless Price win 2 WS titles in Boston, the Red Sux certainly overpaid for that left arm of his.
I'm surprised he signed there. He's not fond of the fans, media, or Ortiz. They're back to their throwing money at everyone ways again.

Greinke reportedly to decide between LAD & SF soon. The Giants need a solid 2 & 3 and a rebulit bullpen. Not another ace. I think all of these deals ( with the exception of Zimmerman ) will be a financial bust in two years.

Greinke is SF is a good idea. Imagine him pitching in that large park?

Of course HUGE deals for pitchers will be busts in two years. Either the hurler will have a busted wing within two years or the player won't live
up to the potential
The salaries for hurlers are out of hand. $30M is overpaying

I guess he was going to the Cardinals and Boston offered 30m more. Price in St. Louis would he terrifying with their always good pitching staff.

It's stupid money but at least there's an opt out after 3 years.
They didn't lose a draft pick or any young talent either. Looks like they can now trade a starter or two for some bullpen help and if, a Panda sized if, they can get rid of Hanley and/or Panda, they look like they'll be in decent "shape".

I fucking hate the Giants, strategically they're killing LAD, it's a beautiful move really.

First if they get Greinke he'd be a favorite player sent to the most hated division rival I'd be forced to watch play vs my team a fucking lot. Second, he owns Chavez Ravine and AT&T Park making it a guaranteed ugly series to face Bum and Greinke all season long.

Thirdly, the Giants are pushing up the money so stupidly high if he stays it's another outrageous contract for LAD.
Part of me wants him to go to the Giants for that kind of money. If it was anyone but San Fransisco I wouldn't have an issue. I think the Giants are doing it on purpose just to force LAD into paying out the ass.

The Giants can't lose either way.
Strategically for the Giants if they get Greinke it will instantly turn the tides in the division and if not they forced LAD to blow a wad still leaving LAD with bull pen and holes to fill.

I think the Giants will win the Greinke lotto, have for the last month. Making them a shoe in for the division easily for years to come.

Out Yankee-ing the Dodgers is pretty funny, Magic has said resigning Greinke is his #1 priority. It's Friedman that doesn't like the tie-up with long contracts for pitchers his age.

I think the Giants are posturing personally. Greinke's family likes LA, he likes LA, and he's a strange bird. I don't think he leaves.

SF needs to fix their bullpen. They do need another pitcher, but I have enough faith in their farm pitching to not break the bank on Zach. Those dudes tore up the AFL too.

Who is going to give this headcase all that money? He's not worth it. No pitcher in the game today is worth that price.
History has shown that giving out "high priced" contracts to SP's will backfire
within the lifetime of the contract.

Not very many teams are immune to that. Greinke, well I guess he's doing his job by asking for the world, but that does not mean any team will give him that money.
Who does he think he is? Don Drysdale?

Exactly why I have more then doubts he'll be in LA next season. If he don't end up in LA or with the Giants in a pitchers stadium I bet his numbers go up. I picture him in Chicago with the wind going out watching his pitches go out.
There's no way Theo is paying a million per start. It's time the salaries come back to the market.

Mariners sign Nori Aoki to a 1yr deal with mutual vesting option for 2017. If that guy can stay healthy he's awesome.

Mariners trade Mark Trumbo and LHP CJ Riefenhauser to Baltimore for C Steve Clevenger. I guess that means the #1 pick Mike Zunino experiment is over. The kid does have power though.

Cliff Lee eyes 2016 return.

Jeff Smardijiza and Mike Leake are plan Bs for SF.

Blue Jays name Russ Atkins GM.

I'm almost disgusted reading both those headlines.

I have a growing dislike for the CUBS and here we go again. Every sports program and news site will start and end with The CUBS. The media overkill will make me sick. A good team that are determined to fill the holes they need to be the team to beat and they're doing it....Puke.

Greinke leaving flat out sucks but at least he didn't go to the bay area, I'm relieved by that yet he couldn't get out of the division. I'm almost sick of his shit after this last month of waiting and guessing. Thanks Giants for pumping up the market and making the dealings a mess. I knew LAD would lose him and at that price I can't say I blame the team it just sucks because he can't be replaced and fuck him for opting out and breaking up a Monster 1,2 punch. Enjoy the BOB at Chase field. A decent hitters park I guess. So long and thanks for all the fish, I hope your ERA doubles.

After so long it has been an enjoyable run with The Dodgers being competitive and winning the divisions 3 years in a row but every step has just pissed me off and falling short of a WS is a downer. At least they was in the race I appreciate that much. I was also happy they beat the shit out of the Braves in the 2013 NLDS but I think that will be the last good moment with this team for a while.

First I hated almost the entire team of Hanley, Uribe, Crawford, Puigy, Kemp and fucking Mattingly then a total transformation last year was nice but more awkward and ugly with all the fucking injuries and holes and games lost coming out of the pen then dropping out of the NLDS in typical Mattingly fashion.....A couple innings away from going to the NLCS and they fuck up. Fuck off Mattingly, enjoy the mess in Florida with Loria, they're made for each other. At least he's gone. Now it's back to a faceless team with a pitcher

The team has just pissed me off even tho they've done some winning. 300m for that? Shit like putting themselves in a position paying the Padre's like 3.5m a year till like 2018 to get rid of Kemp? Not sure if we're still paying for Beckett....Eating what 20m+ just to release Brian Wilson. 300m when half of it wasn't on the fucking field last year and they wounder why and how and want to get the payroll down.......Just start a blind stupid spending spree then pay to release everyone a year later.

I'm pissy with Baseball, the Royals win the WS...All the ugly calls, horrible umps, fucking replay sucks, the WC sucks.....Boston gets Price all the way to betting the Giants take back the division. 2016, I'm not feeling it. I've been bitchy lately, retaining water or something but I feel a hibernation season coming.

Hope Houston comes out strong, Oakland gets better, Cleveland gets better, the M's for fuck sake get better. Anyone other than the Yankees, The Boston Yankees and the KC Yankees. Anyone but the CUBS and Giants in the NL.

--------------------------------------------------

The Dodgers reportedly offered Zack Greinke a five-year contract that would have paid him $155 million.
The Dodgers balked at giving a sixth guaranteed year to 32-year-old Zack Greinke, who has thrown more than 33,000 major-league pitches.

I don't like that contract either, milk every fucking dime.

I guess I can say I'm starting to believe in Friedman and his philosophy. I like what comes out of his mouth. I think he'll field a team and a better one the following season as they say but I'm not sold yet.

Holy fucking shit!!!!! I did not see that coming. The Diamondbacks are always one step away from being relevant, Goldschmidt, now Greinke. The problem is is Dave Stewart is their GM. Mr. Stewart doesn't believe in new fangled ideas like Sabermetrics. Think of Zduriencik in Seattle but having a World Series ring and owning Roger Clemens.

Zack Greinke signs six-year, $206.5-million deal with Arizona Diamondbacks.

My problem with this is all the fucking money, building the farm, not parting with prospects, looking to build a team for the future but........

You have Kershaw NOW. In prime. How can that not factor.

There was a report about LAD not power housing on Hamels at the deadline. They could have stole Ham's for $13 million annually for the next three or four year but they didn't pull the trigger.
Either way, they should have been doing everything they can to nail down a #2. Clayton and Greinke or Clayton and a #2 was practically getting them to the Playoffs on their own. It's going to blow to see Kershaw expected to carry the team alone when their first priority should have been to nail down a #2 for the last year. They've had an entire year knowing Greinke was going to opt out now they're stuck and it's going to suck watching Kershaw go to waist if they don't have a one two punch.

Greinke's gone, but L.A.'s big mistake was not acquiring Hamels

SF signs Jeff Smard...shark for 5/90. Meh. He's alright, but maybe under Righetti ( IMO the best pitching coach in baseball ) he could be great. I didn't think they would land Greinke. That contract is insane and he's not signing somewhere to be a #2. SF's biggest obstacle is their once elite bullpen. I wonder what the next move will be.

I've been dissecting this for so long it's turned obsessive. In the end I bet the Giants and LAD will be thankful they didn't blow 200M on Zack.

One of the factors not really mentioned....In each of the last two seasons Greinke's had elbow soreness in spring training so they'd limit him, rehab and it would work it's self out. I remember being worried this season till the end of May then totally forgot about it. I recall having the thought he wasn't going to finish the season but he's not a deep game pitcher either.
The longer this month went on the more I looked at Zack as a 4 year tops with 2 more before a decline. People mention him aging like Maddux but I don't see it as much. I see AZ eating years and innings off this contract with Zack ending up on the IR with elbow issues eventually, I can feel it.

When Price got nabbed then the rest started dropping I knew LAD was in trouble and wouldn't give Zack 6 years leaving them in trouble with the top pitchers going or gone. It was clear this was about money for Zack, he came out and said it...Money first and less about comfort for his condition. I get the feeling he will regret leaving and not enjoy Arizona. I'm saying it now, he don't have 6 let alone 5 years of pitches left.
If he pitches like he did this year, not completing games and normally being yanked around the 7th. He'll be good if AZ uses the same approach.

--------

Am I the only one not big on Cuto? I don't know why, I know he's had some injury issues but there's not much left and with this year thin on the Bull Pen free agents it's going to be interesting what moves the Giants and LAD do, another bidding war over Cuto would be ugly as well.

I'd hope LAD lands someone in the Pen and focuses on lowering Kershaw's innings leaving him more in the tank for 17 and the future. No more 132 pitch games and closer to 200inning then 230.

-------------------

LAD - Turner Ward being named the new hitting coach......No clue about that hiring. I liked McGwire.

I've never been big on Cueto either. He sucked in KC except when he had to win that one WS game he did. The rumors now is everyone is looking at Iwakuma. He was injured to start the season and is 35. He's still a good pitcher though.

There's a lot of talk that LA fucked up big not trading for Hammels. I don't think they saw Zach leaving. That still blows my mind AZ?

I'm doing cartwheels. A 34yo to a 3 year deal.....
How many days on the DL will he spend and how many games will he pitch past the 8th inning.

Anyone see the documentary: Doped: the dirty side of sports?
It premiered on EPIX a few months ago and watched most of it tonight. Not one surprising thing to me but I always laugh at the MLB and NFL clips, of course they had to show and talk about clips of Barry Balco, Aroid and Selig.

Then the joke of the system of the governing bodies like WADA and the USADA.

http://deadline.com/2015/09/doped-the-d ... 201519412/

------------------

The docu, a critical look at the history of anti-doping policies in professional sports, features interviews with athletes who claim their professional careers have been unfairly impacted by ineffective drug testing or intrusive testing protocols, along with current and former reps of WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) and USADA (U.S. Anti-Doping Agency) as well as former BALCO CEO Victor Conte, ex-USC football player Armond Armstead, and author David Epstein among others.

The film is executive produced by Bobby Valentine (former MLB Manager, current athletic director of Sacred Heart University), produced and directed by Andrew J. Muscato (Schooled: The Price Of College Sports, Checkmates) and narrated by Nick Kroll (Kroll Show). Co-executive producers are Matthew Byrnes, Robert Castrignano, Douglas Lorentz, Terry Maltese and Ravi Singh. Andrew J. Muscato and Ray Hubley are the writers.

I didn't think they would land Greinke. That contract is insane and he's not signing somewhere to be a #2. SF's biggest obstacle is their once elite bullpen. I wonder what the next move will be.
"The Giants paid a steep price for Jeff Samardzija, a high-upside starter who recorded a 4.96 ERA in 2015 and led the American League in hits allowed."

That was the headline, looks like the Giants and LAD are loading up their staff with lotto tickets.

Smardjiza's one of those guys that could be a really good signing. It seems more 70-30 to me. He's coming from playing in front of the worst AL IF defense to playing in front of the best in the NL, great pitching coach, and he wanted to return to the bay area. I don't like the length but wouldn't pay what Cueto wants ( turned down 6/120 from AZ ).

Iwakuma if he can remain healthy will be awesome. That guy is a beast. I guess there was no inclination to leave Seattle, but that third year did him in for LA.

Jonathan Pappelbon to file a grievance against WAS.

Holyfuckingshit. The Dodgers just got Chapman from the Reds for 2 prospects. I'll post more when I know more.

*ETA

Now the Reds are saying they didn't agree to trade Chapman.

Seatlle sends Elias and Carson to Boston for Miley and Arlo.

Kris Bryant and Maikel Franco file grievances over manipulation of service time.

Dodgers' trade for Reds' Aroldis Chapman reportedly on hold; October incident with gun reported

Source confirms report from Yahoo that Chapman trade is indeed being held up by domestic-violence allegation against Chapman.

Chapman’s attorney, Jay Reisinger, repeated what he told Yahoo - “vehemently denies” domestic-violence allegations against pitcher.

Unless a team fully agrees with Reisinger, difficult to see any club trading for Chapman now, particularly with MLB investigating.

Sources: Dodgers making progress on Chapman deal with Reds.

Chapman told police he fired eight shots in his garage Oct. 30. His girlfriend told police Chapman choked her and pushed her against a wall.

Chapman's attorney denied the allegations to Yahoo. Chapman was not arrested.

It's clearly being held up.....Either way if he wasn't arrested and there isn't an investigation could MLB block the trade pending an investigation? Or is there one already? It's the first I've heard of it, did this incident even make the news when it happened? With him not being arrested it could easily be swept under the rug with a report of cops being sent to his house. Fuck it's in Florida, who knows. They was probably doing bathsalts.

I don't know what the MLB would do, I know how the NFL would handle this, he'd already be on a plane to LA while the NFL would say it's the first we've heard of it, we'll start an investigation after we get paid, I mean talk to the team owners.

------------------------------------------

Another WTF LAD move.
Jansen is the closer and they go after Chapman? Hopefully Chapman will agree too be the set up because Jansen wont and personally I'd rather keep Jansen happy. Both are obviously top closers and both free at the end of 2016. Who's going to agree to be a set up when it could affect their market value? It would be an awesome One Two punch if it works out but another move that could cost them at the end of the season.

I'm done trying to figure out what Friedman is trying to do or what he's going to do next. He's a fucking Ninja, just when I don't agree with his approach he pulls a move I agree with then the next day he does something I don't get at all. I understand if he grab's Chapman it will help make up for the SP because I don't think LAD will go after a Cuties or a top SP of what's left on the market.
My guess it's he's trying to buy another year for his farm. If LAD is going to bring up their top prospect this year or hold off another season.

--------------------------------------

And the rumors start flying in........

Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal 17m17 minutes ago

Sources: At least one team that spoke with #Reds believes that Chapman might have injured a hand in alleged domestic-violence incident.

Just as I posted it comes out.........

Source: Chapman trade paused by MLB inquiry..
Nothing is going to happen for two to three weeks. They've all agreed but it will be held up because of the issue. They say there's an agreement in place, some are saying no it's premature....

Whatever, time to move on from Chapman for a few weeks.
