I have hung through the lean Yankees and Cowboys years. So there is no room to call me a bandwagon fan. Get your shit in order Kill.

Re: Killeverything's (New)NeverEndingBaseballThread
I just read an interesting piece on tipping pitches and tell signs from Bill James.
About 8 to 10 years ago, with the Red Sox in the playoffs, one of our coaches tripped to something that seems impossibly obscure, but which makes sense when you think it through. An opposing catcher (still in the game) would, when he settled himself behind home plate an instant before the pitch was on the way, would put his right foot down first, then his left foot down, then squat. But, WHEN THERE WAS A RUNNER ON FIRST, he would do the same when he called a fastball, but when there was a runner on first and he called for a breaking pitch, then he would settle himself by putting his left foot down first, then his right, then squat. It makes sense when you really think it through to the end. Somehow a coach picked this up, and the guys watched video and realized it was true and 100% reliable, so for the rest of that series, they knew when a fastball was coming or a breaking pitch was coming, with a runner on first base (and a right-handed pitcher on the mound.) We dominated that series because of that. It's actually one of the biggest issues with bringing a player to the majors: that in the minors, a player can get by with having a "tell", but in the majors he can't. So when a player first comes up, you have to vet every little thing that he does to make sure he's not giving anything away."
Great work by the unnamed Red Sox coach, and pretty interesting how the pitches were tipped by the catcher, not the pitcher. That made it easier for the Red Sox, as it didn't matter who was pitching, as long as he was right-handed and there was a runner on first.
Makes me wonder how often this sort of thing happens. It could impact games really significantly, and when it does happen, we almost never hear about it.
That would be 2007, where Boston's scouting was known throughout the league. I was thinking it's Torrealba with CO, but he's retired now. So it would probably be V. Martinez and JD Drews grandslam off a Carmona fastball. Or Napoli with LAAAAAA.
These types of occurrences fascinate me. Smardjiza says his rough season last year was because he was tipping pitches. Being able to pick up on that shit is unreal. It's like poker where an opponent catches your breathing changes, etc. I thought it to be interesting.

Fuck the San Fransisco and Chicago yankees.
Chicago bought this WS, they've already won it, the curse, goat, drought whatever is over. They finally put together a good team then went on a spending spree and bought the rest to go more then over the top. It's going to be a long year. Enjoy your one WS is 100+ years, you've bought it....I mean earned it.

SF offered 10 more than what AZ did when Cueto rejected them. I don't know if Friedman had an offer to him too. I doubt it. Friedman is known to refuse to overspend on pitchers past age 25.

Tipping pitches and the coaches and players who can find the "tell", is always a fascinating topic. I remember in 2001, it was said that Pettitte tipped his pitches in game 6 vs Arizona. I think it was his breaking ball. Andy did not go far in that game and the Yankees lost.

It happens way more than we're all aware and unfortunately rarely are told. Usually when a formerly dominate pitcher is lit up, that's the reason ( ie. Beckett in '06 ). Aside from video footage the great hitters pick up on it.Machado wrote:Good post for a change LOLkilleverything wrote:I just read an interesting piece on tipping pitches and tell signs from Bill James.

Did you hear Greinke's press conference where he said he was minutes away from signing the dotted line with the Dodgers when the AZ call came in? He wouldn't say the name but when it came up every writer in the room knows it was LAD.killeverything wrote:What's funny is Theo & co. haven't outspent everyone else. "Zack Greinke was minutes from agreeing to sign with another team when he received word the Arizona Diamondbacks were interested.
Greinke wouldn't identify the other club, but the question was about his former team, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and he answered with a smile, so it was not hard to decipher.
Instead of re-signing with the Dodgers, Greinke listened to the Diamondbacks' pitch. He liked it and a deal was put together the following day."
Here's how crazy, insane and crafty it was to pull off, fucking ninja attack on the last day, minutes away. I bet it was a day of adrenaline rush for La Russa, Greinke and his agent and the AZ Brass.

-----------------------------------------------------
The Dodgers didn't jump on this spending spree till the last several years with the new owners and it pissed me off. The Giants, Boston and Yankees have been doing it for a while.
Everyone LAD bought I hated everyone they traded I liked and they emptied the farm doing it.
High Payroll? Then came time to eat contracts.....Almost 100m of that payroll wasn't playing on the team just like LAD will be paying for Kemp till like 2018. Guys getting a check haven't played in several years. This year they gave Hector Olivers $29m + $3m bonus to play for someone else including others. As far as their on the field payroll goes they ate a ton of money and was closer to the Yankees, Boston and Giants on the field payroll. I haven't been happy with this team during the spree with the new owners......They won the Division 3 years and I haven't liked them as a team. Fuck winning when you hate the team and owners, I'd rather lose then like a couple players. Even more painful was watching Mattingly sabotage them in the playoffs.
It comes down to LAD spent a several years blowing money on players something I've watched the fucking Yankess do since the dawn of time then the Red Sox and Giants jumped in pissed me off.
I hated how each year they'd buy up all the free agents so naturally I hated when LAD started doing it........Massive contracts like Hanley, Crawford, Kemp, Ethier, Urbie. Then give Kemp a mega contract and he's injured for life after he signs the line and before the season starts.
Before that LAD was a normal team usually around the top but every year it was watching all the free agents go to the Yankees then Boston then the Giants or Cards just like every other team.
So now it's time CUB fans who can take shit, like it and stop acting like a puppy dog since they've started loading up over the last year or so. It's one thing to like a competitive team all these years then watch them fuck up but CUBS fans are numb and use to losing since they've sucked since the steam engine was in use.
Lester $155,000,00 - Heyward $184,000,00 - Ben Zobrist $56,000,000 - John Lackey $32,000,00 - Miguel Montero $60,000,00 - Jason Hammel $20,000,00 and so and and so on.
Now the CUBS can but the Ray's, Brewers and the Braves. I said I didn't want them to win last year, it was great watching them get swept but I also said this will be their year.....With the money they've spent they should do.

I get that your mad but who is the big free-agent SF signed? Tim Hudson, Micheal Morse? They tried with Lester and might have with Geinke. Their large payroll was locking up their own players. Cain, Lincecum, now Crawford.
I'm not saying their innocent ( Cueto ), but really. Who?
Throwing them at LAD, NYY, or BOS level is absurd. The more that comes out about Greinke the more I believe he wanted out of LA. I believe it was him that talked about Puig, and he's on record stating how much he respects AZ's style of play ( 2015 ASG ). Under Mattingly it was a dysfunctional clubhouse. He said money talks. I think he was waiting for the opportunity. He had no problem jumping ship the first chance he got.

Very disappointed in Rob Manfred and MLB for not reinstating Pete Rose(the hit king). The man has been suffering for how many years now?25 years or so and MLB once again sticks it to the man.
Yet they allow PED/Steroid users into the HOF. That makes a lot of sense.
All MLB needs to do is reinstate him, allow him to be voted in the HOF as a player and hit king.
But instead the old farts who run the league are casting judgement on Pete and pretending none of them have ever made a mistake.
HYPOCRITES!!!

all Manfred has to do is let Pete into the hall of fame as the hit king and you can even write a blurb that Pete was banned for betting, etc.
MLB is still upset that in 99, Pete received the largest/longest applause when his name was announced in Atlanta.
Selig loves Aaron but Pete still got the bigger applause. Pete might as well bent Selig over and done the deed.

The guy had 2 good seasons at best. That does not make anybody a superstar.

One of these days Bud Selig is going to be exposed for the fraud he is and Pete Rose is going to have the last laugh. Pete might not be alive at the time, but somewhere Pete will be laughing more than anybody.killeverything wrote:

So baseball tells the kids today,
Don't gamble on the game but you can use PED's and Steroids to gain a competitive advantage. Why? Well because the better the player, the more tickets we sell. I.E., McGwire and Sosa
What a nice example the game is setting for the kids

Bottom line: No matter what you think of Pete, the guy is one of the greatest baseball players alive or dead and he certainly deserves to be inducted and hold up his plaque in front of tens of thousands of fans that have already forgiven him for his actions.

What's wrong with rooting for other teams? You didn't root for or against the Royals or the Mets in the Series?Machado wrote:I don't jump to another team unlike all of you here. That includes you Kill.
It's not bandwagon to have a favorite team and like others, most fans do. Most fan's are not fanatical and pic the best franchises in all sports as their favorites so they can always say they win or have won the most during every argument. Yankees and Dallas? The two most popular successful teams? Ya right, wigger please....Bragging rights is how you picked your favorite teams, your trolling proves it. I don't even need to hear what other sport teams you like, I guess it would depend on the year or a quick google to see who won the most eh?
What really tops it off you said you always rooted against the Home team at games because that's the team everyone rooted for....Then you turn around and say Dallas and Yankees in the same breath so you can always troll bandwagon back on, How many Rings does your team have!
Hypocritical much.

I don't get his logic either. I was a Giants fan since birth. Ever get the feeling your being trolled by the stupid? I used to live in Boston, Macapoopoo. Tell us about your times in NY. "I've been to NY 13 times!" Get the fuck outta here. No you haven't. Idiot.UtahRatt wrote:What's wrong with rooting for other teams?
Cleveland Indians and Mike Napoli agree to 1 year deal.
Todd Frazier traded to White Sox in 3 team deal. LAD gets Micah Johnson, Frankie Montas, and Trayce Tompson. Cincy gets Jose Peraza, Scott Schebler, and Brandon Dixon. It's rumored LAD is acquiring all the prospects to swing a trade for a #2 pitcher.

So baseball tells the kids today,
Don't gamble on the game but you can use PED's and Steroids to gain a competitive advantage. Why? Well because the better the player, the more tickets we sell. I.E., McGwire and Sosa
What a nice example the game is setting for the kids![]()
Bottom line: No matter what you think of Pete, the guy is one of the greatest baseball players alive or dead and he certainly deserves to be inducted and hold up his plaque in front of tens of thousands of fans that have already forgiven him for his actions.
Says A-Roid's biggest fan!
Ohhhh the irony!

Manny Ramirez, Ortiz, and who knows who else from those teams were juicing. Don't even pretend that none of them were.
Even your boy Lou Merloni said to the press that the Red Sox were taught how to use PED's
"I definitely was a little bit careless back in those days when I was buying supplements and vitamins over the counter -- legal supplements, legal vitamins over the counter -- but I never buy steroids or use steroids," Ortiz said

No team is innocent in the steroid era. Let's not pretend that your precious team was innocent. That is a joke. You don't put up those numbers in that era without some help from a pill or needle

And you don't give a fuck. It's what makes you foolish and naive.
First off it's needles......Apart from the creams and stuff nowadays. Steroid pills eat your stomach up like antifreeze. I started on the capsules and quickly switched because of the instant issues.
Secondly you have no clue about steroids. That's why you not only accept it you embrace it.
It's not just the damage to the legacy of 100+ years of baseball but you're so blind to the destruction it's done to everyone involved in and around sports from the players, fans, owners to the families and the game. You're an infant, a child rooting for your hero no matter what and that includes a team of hero's all who cheated so they could obliterate the record books and piss on a century of players who played the game before them, most for the love and passion. Not like today's money generation.
Pinetar, loaded balls, cocaine, speed, LSD......None of that stuff changed the face of the game so stop trying to justify PEDS because "everyone was doing it!" Fuck the league and the players. The steroid era shouldn't be celebrated in anyway shape or form, it should viewed as the biggest fuck up in the history of sports and it's still an on going problem.
I feel bad for the players who could have been great but refused to take drugs just too compete. As I was told, competition is so tight hard work and talent wasn't enough anymore. Needles was the difference between no job, AAA or the Pros. PEDS pushed out a lot of what could have been HOFers or a lot of great players because they refused the needle.
No one talks about the damage PEDS does to the players. But they'll blame the game...."SEE FOOTBALL". It will shorten your life span, it's destroyed families with violence that makes alcohol look like Pot. Everything from weakened immune systems to Alzheimer, mental issues and brain damage.
MLB, Selig, the Commissioners office, team owners, players and all staff members should be looked at as the Black Sox's...........The Black era. It should be viewed as a punishable criminal act with an open investigation. The worst thing to happen in sports all being swept under the rug in baseball history. The fact the Aroid can play proves how sickening it is.
While some of the players could be forgiven with some admitting guilt...None should be put in the HOF and all should have a mark on their record, banned for life and treated like Pete Rose or worse if I had it my way.
The era should have an asterix.
But especially not looked at as great players or Hero's like you do.
If you ever took steroids, felt what it does, seen first hand, watched how it's affected close ones or played with or against other players you'd totally have a different opinion on the subject and your cheating teams and heroes and understand how it's changed sports forever.
All this CTE shit that's changed the NFL into the Nation Flag league is because of PEDS. All these 50 year old's dying, disabled and can't lead a life is more because of drugs then the game.
But you don't care, give it a pass, let it go and still look up to these players who cheated on the highest level. Vaseline in a pitchers glove is a seat belt warning while PEDS is a murder conviction.
You're blind and ignorant on the subject.
Oddly enough I just found out my long time friend and teammate just got pinched and is looking at I hear 3 years. I'm trying to find out more because my old ex friend and teammate got pinched at the border in the mid 90's. First time offense with a clean record and he did 3 years. While people at Balco and players like Aroid get to own a mansion and a yacht. Not to mention worshiped by morons like you.

Don't call "I've been to see Yankee games 13 times....I can afford the trip, but I fake being a vet to get free food" out on his shit. He hates that. In fact he hates it so much the next popular team he adopts just might be yours.
Speaking of which. Iwakuma fails physical, deal with LAD in jeopardy. They're looking at Mike Leake ( whom I thought would have done better in the bay when he was traded ) now. Kazmir is also still available but probably pretty spendy.
*ETA
Mariners re-sign Iwakuma to 1 year deal with options for '17 and '18.
