Been home sick with the flew and watched a litany of crap, mostly on HBO.
Hocus Pocus **
Poof. Bette was good, script was lame.
Trainwreck **
Title says it all. Also, Amy Shumer. Now I'm being redundant.
Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen *
Insipid.
Behind the Candleabra **1/2
I could never believe Michael Douglas as Liberace. Matt Damon plays his fuckboi. Story based on said fuckboi's book. Should have been a Lifetime movie

Dr. Strange: Loved it. 9/10. Saw it in 2D, might go back to check out 3D the visuals were so good. Sort of retro but modern. Best Marvel since Guardians.

I Shot Andy Warhol (1996) - 7/10:
I'm a fan of both Valerie Solanas, the radical feminazi (where the word actually fits for once) who wrote the Scum manifesto, and Lili Taylor who plays her here. The movie itself is not really good on its own, but if you have an interest in the true story, it's pretty cool.
I liked that movie and had no interest in feminism the first time I saw it. The great French-Canadian actor Lothaire Bluteau was good as the sleazy insincere book publisher. Mary Harron is a really talented director who has never made a bad film, although I have not seen her latest. It's a teen vampire flick so that might break her streak. She should be making a film every two years.
Chinese Roulette (1976)- 6/10- German (Fassbinder) film about a husband and wife cheating on each other who are manipulated into bringing their respective others to the same vacation home by their crippled daughter. That premise only scratches the surface about how weird this movie is. It starts off really boring and incomprehensible and then it picks up steam around the halfway mark.
Beau Pere (1981)- 7/10- Imagine Kubrick's Lolita except the Humbert Humbert character is played by a younger man (30) and the 15 year old girl is really naked half the movie, it's in French, and there is some sympathy for the characters. The talented actor who plays the weenie lecherous stepfather, Patrick Dewaere, sadly killed himself a few years later.
Presumed Innocent (1990)- 6/10- Harrison Ford legal thriller with a shit ending that you can see coming a mile away but still doesn't make any sense. Ford plays an assistant district attorney who is framed for murdering another ADA with a hot ass played by the frequently naked Greta Scacchi. The best parts are trial sequences and Raul Julia as the Puerto Rican Johnnie Cochran. The screenwriter was an actual practising attorney for a nice change of pace.

Harron's next movie is about the Manson girls. Won't be out for awhile but I really like the sound of it and she's a terrific director.

Agreed. I'd give it an 8.5/10. Fantastic, with mind-bending visuals.pulsar0510 wrote:Dr. Strange: Loved it. 9/10. Saw it in 2D, might go back to check out 3D the visuals were so good. Sort of retro but modern. Best Marvel since Guardians.

Oh, I'll definitely look forward to that. With all the talk about diversity in film-making, Mary Harron should be at the top of the list. She's a good writer, she's good at directing actors, all of her films look and sound 4X the amount they were budgeted, and she picks interesting subject matter to film. She's gold and the people with money don't see it.Chip Z'Hoy wrote:Harron's next movie is about the Manson girls. Hell or High Water - 9/10.
Great modern western. Bank robbery film, but more about the characters than the heist.
Doctor Strange - 7.5/10.
Great visuals, great lead, but super predictable Marvel origin story. It is good, but suffered for being seen so close after a really good film.

Hacksaw Ridge. 8/10. Pretty intense anti-war war film with some fine performances. Vince Vaughn has never been better. Airborne appendages galore!!!

lives up to the hype. good acting all around and good story.
Hands of Stone - 0/10
They knew this movie sucked so they added a few scenes of the blonde wife showing her tits and ass. Only made it through 40 minutes. The actor playing Duran was a tart. DeNiro needs to put a sock in it. he's done.

The Blood on Satan's Claw (1971) - 8/10:
Can't believe I've never seen this as a teenager. Awesome 18th century village satanic witch horror. Linda Hayden is hot in it.
Stoned (2005) - 5/10:
Pretty awful biopic about Brian Jones's descent into madness. Pretty much everything sucks except for two things: Monet Mazur's tits and some Moroccan scenery.
The Moment (2013) - 6/10:
Predictable and forgettable drama. I like Jennifer Jason Leigh and she's great as usual. You also get to see Meat Loaf and the cousin from Arrested Development.
Of Mice and Men (1992) - 7/10:
John Malkovich is awesome as Lennie Small and Sherilyn Fenn was one of the hottest women on earth. Not a bad adaptation.
Following (1998) - 5/10:
First movie by Christopher Nolan, whose status I get less and less. Except for Memento and maybe Prestige, all his shit is massively overrated. This is a film noir short that foreshadows all his trademarks: pretentious style and pseudo-sophisticated twist endings.

"Loving" - 8.5/10
Quiet, but powerful. Oddly enough, a movie about a landmark court case that really focuses more on the relationship between the Lovings.

It just occurred to me.
The Omen movie series. A story of a young boy who happens to also be the anti-Christ, is raised in a family of power, money, and privilege, and eventually rises to high ranking political power in the hopes to rule the planet.
Surely I'm not the first person on the interwebz to have thought of this?

Who Killed JonBenet? ****
Told by the perspective of the lead detective on the case. The actress that played Patsy was awesome. You may remember her as the meanest mean girl on Romy and Michelle.

Is it a given at this point that Burke did it and they covered it up?
