Awesome movie. Pretty interesting take on the first contact theme with some great performances.

Caught this yesterday. Very good movie. It was very much what Interstellar was trying to be. The director of this also did Prisoners and Sicario. Both of those were are also very good.

Saw this yesterday. I wonder how many people that haven't read the short-story actually got the movie. I thought it was a good traditional sci-fi but wasn't quite sure it all made complete sense the way it was structured/presented in the movie. But definitely worth seeing.EddieVanHeineken wrote:TenBenny wrote:"Arrival" - 8.5/10

Great documentary. Quite melancholy if you're a fan.
As an aside, it was great to see shots of arena crowds bursting to the seams with beautiful young women.

Blade Runner - 6.
I rememeber watching this film when I was about 10 and I didn't care for it then. I figured I would give it another chance as an adult. Especially as I really like dystopian films.
Visually it is impressive and gives off a great dystopian vibe. And Roy Batty is a great villain who has some classic lines. Ford does a decent job as Deckard, and the acting overall is stellar.
But the film is kind of boring and slow.
Also, why do they only get one Blade Runner to catch 4 of the replicants? Especially as they are stronger and more agile? And why doesn't the creator have any security considering he knows he will be visited by Roy Batty!
I really wanted to like this film, and watched with an open mind, but it just doesn't do it for me.

Lady Vengeance (2005) - 7/10:
Pretty good, but I'm already tired of Chan-wook Park's formula. Somehow I can hardly tell apart all his 'vengeance' movies.
Drive (2011) - 7/10:
Dark-as-fuck action Noir from the director of the awesome Pusher trilogy. Super cool retro wave soundtrack.
One Million Years B.C. (1966) - 7/10:
The Hammer films are usually considered trash, but I genuinely like this. Tumak is a fucking idiot for going after Raquel Welch instead of Martine Beswick, though.
Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (1994) - 6/10:
De Niro gets a lot of shit for this, but as an overacted fantasy movie, it's really good. I would have loved this as a kid.

I really did. It was one of the first horror movies I ever saw, and I watched it over and over. It's still the closest thing to the novel, and a well done version of it.SebastianLeeDanzig wrote:

Also, I love the Hammer films. I prefer most of their adaptions to the Universal ones. There's just something about that 70's tone and color scheme that makes them stand out to me. Even though they're all shoestring budget types, they're great.

Planet of the Vampires (1965).
Kinda meh probably for American audiences though I enjoyed it, but the costuming is completely different than the usual stuff pre-Star Trek. It's like some took the upholstery out of a Ferrari and made the uniforms. Black leather (looking anyway) with yellow piping, high collars and skull caps. Pretty snazzy. Realised that it is a European film basically, so maybe that's why the aesthetics are so different. I want one of those outfits.

Edited, as it's on...I wonder if Ridley Scott ever saw this film. There are some Alien vibes in it.

The Dungeonmaster (1984) Low budget sci fi fantasy with a guy taking on Richard Moll as another Satanic potrayal. Cheesy and fun, goes though 7 separate storylines like an anthology tale. W.A.S.P. featured heavily in one segment. 6/10

A pretty good coming of age movie. Woody Harrelson is always worth catching. The girl from True Grit was really good in this, too.
