Surprisingly, the last movie of his career supposedly and it's a more restrained Daniel Day Lewis. For a Paul Thomas Anderson movie, it's pretty straight forward. His movies always have a sense of dread underlying as each scene unfolds, but this one I didn't feel that way. The girl who was his muse was very good.

Well acted by everybody, but the story the way the movie told it was lacking.
Darkest Hour
8.5./10
Gary Oldman again in top form. Somebody out there will make a master edit between this and Dunkirk as they are interrelated and take place pretty much at the same time.

I enjoyed this quite a bit. Everybody was great in it. It was told in a manner similar to Goodfellas.

Was debating on seeing this, Robbie has gotten a ton of praise but She looks and sounds nothing like Harding from the clips i've seen, it's kind of distracting even the trailer, I still will probably watch it, I just hope everyones right because Harding was so thick and athletic where Robbie has longer skinny legs for someone playing a skater, Janney looks like she nailed it.EddieVanHeineken wrote: I,Tonya

I needed a few laughs and something far less serious considering the state of the world and this did a good job. Great job by all the actors. If you need something to make you laugh and smile, this might be for you. And check out Fawlty Towers as well.

The biggest problem this movie has is lack of empathy.
The kids are horrible and I wanted them to die... so... I ended up cheering for the parents!
Then.. it's just... ends...

The show. It’s aged okay with me but you’re right because most people wouldn’t understand the humor now. Attention spans have shortened since then.pieceofme wrote:There is a film of Fawlty Towers at the cinema!stocknsocks wrote:Paddington. 8.5/10

Re: Rate the last movie you saw
That was a terrible movie, a waste of great actors, Aronofsky said He wrote it over a weekend, it shows. Never bought the excuse that Lawrence insulted Trump so people boycotted it. She never even mentioned him and only echoed what Aronofsky said, it was basically a stupid Adam and Eve story dealing with Mother natures wrath...global warning, Whatever it sucked!!!!Caustic Queen wrote:Mother -2017 - 1/10

"Phantom Thread" - 8.5/10
Terrific movie. After the disappointing "Inherent Vice," PTA has challenged himself with an English period piece. It's beautiful and intriguing all around. If this is Day-Lewis' swan song, it's one hell of a capper.
"A Futile and Stupid Gesture" - 7/10
David Wain's take on the book about the creation of National Lampoon. This was made for Netflix, and the lack of budget and a somewhat unremarkable video look drops this down a bit, but overall it's light and breezy, with a variety of great comic actors. Will Forte and Domhnall Gleeson star as National Lampoon co-founders Doug Kenney and Henry Beard, and what the movie gets right is the sense of total irreverence everyone on board had, including those who would go on to "Saturday Night Live" or their own solo careers.

The Florida Project - 4/10
I did not find the supposed "Epic ending" very epic at all.
I didn't even notice the cinematic change until it was pointed out to me.
The biggest problem though was finding no empathy / sympathy for the child, so her tears didn't move me as they would have needed to drive the point of the story home. And I wanted something bad to happen to the mother..
I give it a 4 because I did enjoy some of Willem Defoe's scenes.
Cats Kills - 7/10
I liked this B Flick.
The acting was a bit lacking, but oh well. I did not predict the outcome.

Moonrise Kingdom (2012) - 6/10:
I'm just not getting warm with Wes Anderson. All his shit is enjoyable and looks nice and you see all his usual cool actor friends, but I forget all about the next day. I couldn't tell you one thing about Royal Tenenbaums, Darjeeling Limited or Life Aquatic anymore, which I remember I all kinda liked. Well, at least there was some hot pre-teen make-out footage.
In Bruges (2008) - 9/10:
I heard about this film so many times and always dismissed it as some boring artsy shit I wouldn't care about. Turns out it's awesome and funny as hell. Even though, or maybe precisely because I loathe these old picturesque Belgian/Dutch channel towns myself and I don't give a fuck about the Irish either.

Re: Rate the last movie you saw
In Bruges is a great fucking movie. Glad you finally saw and it appreciated for what it is. Hookers, horse tranquilizers and a midget . A hint of a nod to Don't Look Now. I need to watch it again. I know people like to rag on Farrell, but he was really good in this. Intermission is another film where he plays a similar type of character, though not as "lovable". The setting of Bruges really works, because of the juxtaposition of an ancient picturesque city and the coarse characters and violence.SebastianLeeDanzig wrote:Moonrise Kingdom (2012) - 6/10:
