Psycho 10/10. Still utterly perfect. And don’t even think about asking me which version.

47 Meters Down 8\10. Surprisingly good movie about two rather foolish girls who wind up at the bottom of the ocean dodging sharks and low oxygen. Foolish part comes from how they wound up there in the first place. On Netflix, do give it a look.

I'd give this movie an 8.5 or a 9. I thought it was fucking great.TenBenny wrote: ↑Sat Jun 02, 2018 12:00 pm "Upgrade" - 7/10
Pretty good suspense thriller. An engaging idea written and directed by Leigh Whannell, the creator/writer of the first two "Saw" movies. Like "Saw," it kind of doesn't have a payoff as intriguing as the first two thirds of the movie, but I like Whannell's inventiveness.

Dirty Grandpa. No fucks given, I thought it was great. I’ve seen this movie shit on mercilessly, but I enjoyed the Hell out of it.

"Ocean's 8" - 6.5/10
Decently entertaining flick, but not a great one. Sadly I think there was one actual out-loud laugh during my screening and it came off of a line from James Corden's character, but then again Soderbergh's movies weren't big on laughs either. Now the cast is great, there's no issue there for me, and like the "Ocean's" movies with the male counterparts it's really just more about the fast-paced "How are they gonna pull it off?" angle. The backdrop of the Met gala didn't quite have the same cool factor to it, but overall, it was fun.

A Separation (2011) - 8/10:
Iranian drama by director Asghar Farhadi, who has a creepy knack for really uncomfortable relationship issues. Golshifteh Farahani is not hot in it. In fact, she's not in it at all. I don't even know why I wanted to watch this in the first place.
Jurassic World (2015) - 4/10:
Wasn't this hyped up to be better than the original or something? It's the exact same shit as all the others. I don't get it. Oh well, Bryce Dallas Howard is my favorite ginge so it's okay.
The White Buffalo (1977) - 7/10:
Brilliant trash. I really can't tell how it was originally intended.
Transfer (2010) - 8/10:
Great low-budget sci-fi drama. Made in Germany but with American actors dubbed back into German or something, but it doesn't really show much. Kinda feels like a feature-length episode of Black Mirror, so if you're into that, try to find this!

And no, I'm not nominating me but come on. Amy Adams! Even Lindsay Lohan, depending on her cocaine intake.

"Hereditary" - 6/10
This horror/thriller entry has a 98% positive score on Rotten Tomatoes. The reviews are gushingly effusive. But my buddy and I left the theater feeling like maybe this was some smoke and mirrors affair that everyone bought into, like the movie didn't deliver on its very promising start. There are a lot of overly-familiar tropes from the genre, and plenty of exposition in the dialogue and lingering scenes, but there are pockets of dread woven into the characters that are effective. My buddy and I agreed that it's very well-made (which I went with a 6 instead of a 5.5), but it starts to lose steam midway through and left me with a few more questions than answers.
I was hoping I'd like it more. The trailer was fantastic. Still, if you're a fan of the genre, it might be worth examining for yourself.

I've always loved Lindsay Lohan, depending on my cocaine intake, but I'm not sure she's still alive. If the undead count, I'm going with Ann-Margret anyway. Nothing against Amy Adams, but Bryce Dallas Howard is hot as fuck to me. It was probably the extremely sensual and soothing parts in Manderlay. But I wasn't really thinking, because the best ginge for real is Karen Gillan.Chip Z'Hoy wrote: ↑Sun Jun 10, 2018 10:35 pm And no, I'm not nominating me but come on. Amy Adams! "American Animals" - 9/10
This movie is fantastic. A true story about four college-aged kids and a robbery gone wrong with some great performances and writing and some unexpected but engaging stylistic touches. It's hard to believe it's the first narrative film from this director, who also wrote the script and who has generally worked on TV documentary series and specials. It actually features some partial documentary flourishes which helps make it something unique. Definitely recommended.

"Tag" - 6.5/10
A reasonably funny, lively movie with a great cast. Not a belly laugh kind of movie but it keeps the energy up for most of it, then starts to lag a bit towards the end. It's hard to believe the filmmakers green screened both of Jeremy Renner's broken arms for most of it when the same studio couldn't even get Henry Cavill's upper lip green screened correctly in "Justice League."
