Worse cover: F.P.s "You're So Vain" or Stryper "Shining Star"?

"I can't choose one over/under the other", "Both make me want to kill myself" & "2 songs that are complete embarrassments to the genre" are all acceptable answers.

A highlight of Carly's 'You're So Vain' is the gorgeous solo. The solo here sucks balls.

'Shining Star' is an R&B groove, dripping with soul. Michael Sweet walks into rehearsal: "Hey guys, I have an idea; Let's cover Earth Wind & Fire's 'Shining Star' but we'll take out all of that pesky soul." It's an emotionless saltine-cracker with bad, over-done vibrato.

Haven’t heard the Stryper one. The FP one is fucking terrible.

I actually like them both but if I had to choose which one I like less I’d say Stryper.

The Stryper one was a terrible choice for a single, that's for sure.

FP You're So Vain is one of my favorite songs of theirs actually. It's trashy and sleazy and still super melodic.

I always liked the FP version of that song.
I didn't like Shining Star as a song to begin with but Stryper's version makes it even worse. I remember that song debuting on Headbangers Ball and the hosts laughing as they introduced it, I think it was Dave Mustaine if irc.

Yep, it was Mustaine and MegaWank Ellefson. August 11, 1990 show to be exact, according to the archive of the now defunct HBB tribute site:

I think FP’s version of “You’re So Vain” is awesome, and I can’t stand Stryper, so yeah.

Winger’s “Purple Haze”, Priest’s “Johnny B Goode”, Crue’s “Anarchy in the U.K.”, & Great White’s “Once Bitten, Twice Shy” all are worth a mentioning.

Winger and Crue, maybe, and Priest is a bit "meh" but not as bad as the previous two, but "Once Bitten, Twice Shy" is great, IMO.

"You're So Vain" was kinda considered cool at the time.

"Shining Star" only existed because Stryper needed a single for their new album.
