I was just thinking... for those who believe and those who don't...
What if you don't believe in God... and then your life ends... and all of sudden you realize, "Holy Sh!t! I am in Hell right now!"
You're sweating, it's hot as balls... fire everywhere... all kinds of bad people down there... like Belushi, Cobain, Elvis, etc....
Do you say to yourself... "I f#@ked up... now I gotta hang out with GG Alin and Charles Manson for eternity..." and second guess your life decisions?
In your head you're thinking, "Hey... these guys can't be that bad..." and then GG throws a handful of human waste into your face as Manson laughs in the corner.
Do you go to the gate, or the front counter and tell them, "I think they made a mistake with my reservation..." essentially asking for a do-over?
Or do you grab a crack pipe and bottle of rum and just start partying?
Well.... what happens then... any ideas? Discuss...
Irrelevant. This god described in the Bible is a vindictive POS that supposedly is all powerful yet created a flawed world and rules by fear. F all those fairy tales. Know one knows for real until they die, but I’d hit the sports book and drop a ton of dough that when you die, there is nothing. Don’t believe in paranormal, afterlife’s, none of that BS. If you have faith, god created Satan. He seems about as evil in writing as that “loving god.” I’ll stay in hell.
Unfortunately, no. I’ve read the Bible, and once you get to Hell, you’re stuck there for all eternity. It’s okay, though, because Satan is a heavy metal fan. Well, except for those Jesus Freaks in Stryper.

You’re asking this question as if the Christian version of the afterlife is the correct one. There are 3000 religions on earth and all are as valid or invalid as each other.
Every primitive society has a creation story and an afterlife story. Then some cultures discovered science and realised you didnt have to sacrifice anything to make then sun come up in the morning, a man wont die if he touches something that a menstruating woman has also touched, etc.
Unfortunately some people in our supposedly educated society still believe in the particular myths of a bunch of Bronze age, Middle Eastern goat herders, translated multiple times since then like Chinese Whispers.

If memory serves me correctly, there is a book that was removed from the Bible that said that those in hell eventually get released. The punishment is not eternal. It was on the history Channel special on books that were banned from the Bible. Lot of interesting stuff and that special, such as the notion that Judas was not a traitor but in fact the one disciple Jesus trusted to do the job of turning him over to the authorities.

Let's review. About 15 years ago, I was a worship leader in a non-denominational/contemporary church. I had a change of heart. The church never did me wrong, but you start seeing things around you differently after a while. I just liked having a weekly gig playing and singing "rock" worship music with a full band. That's how I got into the cover band circuit for a few years. Except for commenting in this thread, I do not disparage beliefs or push mine. I navigate the ins and outs of life, hopefully with morality, kindness, and imperfection. I am okay knowing (in my beliefs) that dying is the big dirt nap. No streets of gold or hellfire. When my dad died last December, his pastor was in and out of his hospice room several times. Of course, they prayed over my dad each time. To my mom's shock, I excused myself, but the pastor was cool. I said, "It isn't my thing." and he said, "I completely understand." For a man of the cloth to understand differences in beliefs, I thought, was very progressive. I did not know the guy, so it wasn't like he was thinking, "Oh, it's just TooOldToCare...I'll convince him later."
1. Talking snakes
2. Talking donkey
3. 900-year-old people
4. Noah's Ark - it is physically impossible to do what is written. Also, if it came to rest on Mt. Ararat, thousands of species would have died because they were in a hostile habitat. I won't get into the physics of animal deaths, food, waste, space on the ark.
5. God created sin when he had the power not to. So that he could send himself in human form as a blood offering? And regardless of how sinful you are (mass shooter, for example), ALL YOU NEED TO DO is let him into your heart, and you'll go to heaven. And I could live a moral, giving life but say, "I don't know if there is a god," and I get sent to hell. F that kind of God. It sounds like his entire schtick is to screw with people's heads.
6. Like another said, there are 3000 gods worldwide, but Christianity negates 2999.
7. Sounds like the Pope is now going against god's word by blessing same-sex couples. He's going to hell for sure. You know, not to mention all the corruption and sexual predators in "the church." Very holy, indeed.
8. Miracles - the ones that make the news these days are infrequent, pedestrian, and often explainable. Maybe climate change and the abundance of Category 5 hurricanes each season is the next long game to wiping out humanity.
This list is infinite. A critical thinker may conclude that some people need faith. Fine. If that helps you through the day, go for it, but save the rhetoric. Man created religion and gods to explain unexplainable things at the time and keep people in line by the "fear of god." The Bible was written to support that narrative and, for those who see it this way, something to believe in - Bert Miracles.

you probably don't even know what God's name is.
read psalm 83:18
read it in a older bible the newer bibles have completely taken his name out of there.

My wife grew up in a Jehovah's Witness household. She had to excuse herself during birthday parties at school and shit like that. Seems more cruel than beneficial.

Nothing will turn you off from religion faster than actually being familiar with it.
I don't believe in god, heaven, hell or anything like that. The universe works in a way that we can't possibly understand. Lately I've been wondering if life and time is some kind of circle - not reincarnation, but something more complex. Like... What if we have one life, but are perpetually conscious in different phases of it?
(All the talk about aliens got me thinking about this shit.)
Seems crazy that in all the zillion years of existence, the exact moment we're alive and conscious happens to be now? I know it has to happen at some point, but it's a ridiculously tiny pinpoint in the big picture timeline.
