First time it has hit number one in the UK since it was released 39 years ago.
Wham! are a bit of a guilty pleasure and I've always enjoyed this song. Way better than the Mariah Carey cover!

I prefer the Butch Walker cover version of it. Regardless, it is a great song.

Guess the Brits gave up on trying to win at Whamageddon.

Re: Wham! Last Christmas number one in the UK
I have played more Christmas music this year than in the past. In my home office, I stream many random channels for background noise each day.
Strangely, I have not heard Last Christmas, Do They Know It's Christmas, and many more overplayed holiday tunes. The one I'm glad to have not heard is Feliz Navidad. That fking song gives me "musical road rage."
I've heard Brenda Lee, Mariah, and many more oldies like Andy Williams exponentially more often.

If you watch the Netflix WHAM documentary, it's clear George Michael was determined to have a Christmas #1 with "Last Christmas" and was conflicted when it lost out to "Do They Know It's Christmas". Even though he was on it too.

I haven’t heard any of these yet this year either!TooOldToCare wrote: ↑Sat Dec 23, 2023 5:05 am Strangely, I have not heard Last Christmas, Do They Know It's Christmas, and many more overplayed holiday tunes. That may be because I’ve finally given up on FM radio and I’m doing most of my shopping online so not hearing it in the department stores.

We did Christmas today bc of schedules. I’m done for 2023, and happy Monday is a rest day. And the Christmas music goes away for another year.

Not like there’s much competition.

Yeah it's sad that music is so dead nowadays that moldy old Christmas songs from decades ago rocket back up to #1 again every year at this time.

Sorry, but this song makes me want to jump off a bridge, like George Bailey.
And I don't hate Christmas music. This is just terrible Christmas music.

Thank god it wasn’t Ed Sheeran or Adele or anyone singing like they have an extra vagina covering it.
